Pinsker, Art 1 Unit 3: Color This unit will introduce you to exploratory color, pattern design, and color theory. Assignment 1: 50 Color Painting You will generate a line-‐based design and paint it with 50 different colors. (Medium: Tempera Paint) DUE____________ Vocabulary: Primary Colors-‐ Red, Blue and Yellow. The colors that are used to make all other colors. Secondary Colors-‐ colors created from the primary colors: Green, Orange, Violet (Purple). Tertiary Colors-‐ created by mixing a primary and a secondary color together. Complementary Colors-‐ opposite colors on the color wheel (across from each other). Symmetry-‐ parts on either side of a dividing line are the same. Asymmetry-‐ parts on either side of a dividing line are different. (opposite of symmetry) Radial design-‐ involves lines or shapes that relate the center (move in / out / around it). Assignment 2: Color Wheel Design You will learn the fundamentals of color theory and design a color wheel with a unifying theme that displays your knowledge. (Medium: Tempera Paint) DUE____________ Vocabulary: Hue-‐ color in its purest form (before it becomes a tint, shade or tone). Tint-‐ any color mixed with white. Shade-‐ any color mixed with black. Tone -‐ any color mixed with gray. Value-‐ the lightness or darkness of a color (same as value in Unit 1-‐2, but pertaining to colors). Intensity-‐ The purity of a color (how intense or dull it is. Adding white/black dulls colors). Assignment 3: Name Tile Painting You will generate a symmetrical pattern based on your name and paint it using the principles of color theory. (Medium: Tempera Paint) DUE____________ Vocabulary: Representational Art-‐ art that contains recognizable objects (people, animals, everyday objects, etc.) Non-‐Representational Art-‐ art that does NOT contain recognizable objects (patterns, designs, etc.) Calligraphy-‐ the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush. Color Scheme-‐ a speciSic set or combination of colors that are used in an image/drawing/painting, etc. **Check you Color Scheme Design Worksheet and discuss your speciIic Color Scheme!** Written Reflection: •1/2 page per assignment (minimum). *Example sentence: • What did you learn?
