Invitational Tournament Rules
1. The tournament is sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA) and as such is subject to OLA Rules
and Regulations. Before the first game Tournament Officials will verify OLA Players and Coaches cards. Please
Note: the OLA WILL NOT permit the participation of any player or bench staff whose OLA approved card is not
available. Goalie Equipment exemptions must be attached to each applicable game sheet.
2. GAME DURATION: Paperweight: The tournament structure for the Paperweight division is a non-seeded,
round-robin format. Games will be played with three (3) 14-minute periods of run-time. A two-minute buzzer
for line changes will be in effect for the duration of the game.
Tyke & Novice: All games in the tournament will consist of three (3) 15-minute periods, all straight time.
There will be a 3 minute rest period between each period and a 3 minute warm up if time permits at the
referees’ discretion.
3. TIME-OUTS: Each team will be allowed 1 x 30 second time-out per game. An additional 30-second timeout
allowed for each overtime period.
4. START TIME: Teams must be prepared to start their games 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
5. GAME POINTS AWARDED: Points will be awarded as follows: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a
loss. There will be no overtime games in the “round-robin” portion of the tournament.
6. TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Paperweight: The tournament structure is a non-seeded, round-robin format. Teams
participate within a round robin group but DO NOT advance to a championship final.
Tyke & Novice: Teams will be placed in one or more pools and play a round-robin format.
In the Tyke CD Division 1, Division 2 and Novice CD Divisions, semi-finals will be played between the 1st place
team vs 4th place team, and 2nd place team vs 3rd place team. The winner of the semi advance to the
championship finals
In the Novice AB Division, the semi-finals will be played between the 1st place team in Pool 1 vs the 2nd place
team Pool 2 and the 2nd place team in Pool 1 vs the 1st place team in Pool 2. The winners of semis advance to
the championship finals.
7. TIE-BREAKING RULES FOR TYKE & NOVICE:
A. If 2 or more teams are tied going into the finals/semi-final games, the placement will be decided by the
winner of Head to Head play.
B. If the teams are still tied, the Goal Average formula will be used to determine who will move on. Goals
For/Goals For + Goals Against.
8. SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS FOR TYKE & NOVICE: Overtime for semi & final games will follow a three-minute
rest with 10 minutes sudden victory. Overtime format will continue until a sudden victory.
9 JERSEY RULE: In the event of a color conflict between 2 teams, the HOME team shall be responsible for
changing jerseys. The referee’s decision on a potential “conflict” will determine if a change is required
10. FIGHTING: Any player/bench staff receiving a major penalty for fighting will be automatically ejected from the
game and suspended for the balance of the tournament. No exceptions. FIGHTING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
ALL GAMES MUST START & FINISH ON SCHEDULE.
