TM1A Horizontal Adapter Addendum
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS - SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This Addendum is not a stand-alone set of instructions, it is only to be used together
with the MantelMount Installation Manual.
To install MantelMount with the Horizontal Adapter, start with the standard Installation
Manual included with the mount. When you reach step 7 on page 7, switch to this
Addendum until step 14 is completed. Then switch back to the standard Installation
Manual for the rest of the installation.
The steps in this Addendum replace the correlating numbered steps that are in the
Installation Manual. The letter “a” has been added to the steps in this Addendum (i.e.:
steps “7a - 14a”) to represent that they are used for the installation of the adapter.
Please read the entire Installation Manual and also this entire Addendum before you
begin. Do not unpack the contents of any MantelMount package until you verify that
your installation meets all of the requirements listed in both documents.

Please review the different options for a recessed installation:
Vertically Mounted Recess:
Horizontally Mounted Recess:
This example mounts the TV to a vertical surface at the
back of a recess. This recess is tall and wide enough to
hide most of the TV and the mount. This recess is usually
custom built to fit the dimensions of a specific TV with
MantelMount. Below are the basic parameters and
requirements of this installation.
This configuration involves a recessed cavity that is too
deep to mount the TV onto the back wall. The recess is
probably not the correct height or width to accept the TV.
This recess is usually an existing recess that was built as a
shelf or a cubby for older tube-style TVs. This is the type of
recess that requires the Horizontal Adapter.
Some important things to consider with this recess:
Some important things to consider with this recess:
The mantel cannot be very large because the depth of the
recess uses most of the swinging clearance of the mount.
The horizontal surface must be supported by structural
studs that can handle many times the weight of the TV.
The Wall Frame must be attached to these studs with Lag
Bolts that penetrate more than two inches deep.
Also, because the TV is tilted, the height of a given TV
frame determines the depth of the recess. As the TV gets
taller, the recess gets deeper and therefore so does the
required mounting height to maintain the swinging
clearance. This will limit the depth of the recess and
might not completely conceal the TV.
Also, the flat mounting surface of the recess cannot be
flush with the top of the mantel. It must be raised higher
than the mantel to allow for the swing clearance of
MantelMount.

Measure and mark the centerline of the recess.
8a
Locate at least two back studs with a stud finder. Locate
the center of these studs by using a sharp awl or finish nail
poked through the drywall to locate each edge. Also locate
the stud that runs along the front of the recess.
Lag bolts must be installed into the CENTER of the studs.

Align the arrows on the Wall Plate {32} pointing inward
toward the back of the recess. The Wall Plate must be
within ONE INCH of front edge of the recess, with the front
two Lag Bolts {17} fastened to the stud that runs along
the front edge of the recess. All Bolts must be installed into
the center of the studs.
10a
NOTE: DO NOT locate the front holes at the point
where the back studs “T” into the front stud. There
will be nails in those areas holding the studs together.
Pre-drill the 4 holes with 11/64” drill bit to a depth of
2.5 inches (65mm) including wall covering. NOTE: Wall
covering (drywall) must not exceed 5/8” thickness.

Adjust Wall Plate {32} horizontally, using the results of
STEP 6, to compensate for an unbalanced television
center-of-gravity, up to a maximum of 2 inches left or
right. Move the Wall Plate in the SAME DIRECTION
as the offset from STEP 6.
12a
Install Lag Bolts {17} and Washers {18}.
! CAUTION:
Do Not overtighten Lag Bolts {17}. Tighten only until the
washers are firmly against the wall plate. Damage due to
overtightening can cause property damage or injury.
