Further information
1. WHAT IS CALMAX AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
Calmax is used for the short-term treatment of severe/disabling anxiety.
Calmax contains the active ingredient alprazolam. Alprazolam belongs to a group of medicines called benzodiazepines. It
works by depressing activity in the part of the brain that controls emotion, by promoting the action of a chemical called
gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Alprazolam is thought to increase the inhibitory effect of GABA on brain cells, thus
preventing excessive brain activity that causes anxiety.

uninterrupted sleep of 7-8 hours (see also section 4 Possible side effects).
Behavioural and Psychiatric reactions
Reactions like restlessness, agitation, irritability, aggressiveness, delusion, rages, nightmares, hallucinations, psychoses,
