Headteacher’s Commendations for
week ending 05 May 2017
You will have seen from a recent parent-mail that
former student, Sophie Reeves, has been understudy
for Fantine this year. We have heard that her next
performance will be Thursday 11th May and have
managed to get tickets for a number of us to see her
perform in the West End. We will be travelling down
by coach and no doubt amazed at Sophie’s
progression to the professional stage in this amazing
show. Well done Sophie!
The last of the Parent Teacher Consultation events
was held this week with Y7 families having their first
opportunity to meet staff at the school. The PTCs are
a valuable part of our communication with parents and
it would be helpful for any feedback on the process so
that we can further improve the system for next year.
Comments should be sent through to Stuart Kemp,
Assistant Headteacher at the school.
One of our key future developments is to install an
all-weather floodlit football pitch at the rear of the
school grounds and to prepare a further grass pitch at
the same time. We are currently preparing a planning
application for this and holding discussions with
various sponsors to secure the necessary funding
required in order to complete the project. This will
further enhance the sporting facilities at the school and
provide a great resource for the local community.

volunteer at events and activities to ensure that we
can continue to provide this support to the school

PE News
This week has seen the start of County League Athletics
for Years 8 and 10 in conjunction with the friendly District
League for Years 9 and 10. There have been some
outstanding performances and the students have competed
with a sense of real determination. It has been a pleasure to
watch the Year 7s competing in their first track event. It is
clear that there is a great deal of natural talent and we look
forward to seeing them develop during the season. Some
highlights for the Y7’s were Wesley Mudziviri, Kobi Ibeh,
Mattie Hargreaves, Megan Bryant and Elisa Potts –Gorgue.
We are also extremely hopeful of reaching finals for the
Y8 and Y10 County League teams with some strong
performances on Wednesday at Westminster Lodge. There
were some excellent individual performances but one
student who really stood out running up a year group was
George Greenway.

exceptionally well in a Tournament at Worthing, winning
every game in their group stage plus the final to end up with
a grand total of 32 tries for and 1 against. It is great to see
them have done so well and built on the Rugby they have
worked on this year with Mrs Cracknell and our coaches on
a Friday after school. Any girls interested in joining OAs
