It is safe to say that the worst part of camp is having to go home at the end of
the summer. For the past two months, you’ve called this place your home.
You’ve made countless friends that you may even call your family. You’ve had a
blast doing all of your activities. You’ve made unforgettable memories that will
last you a lifetime. While the worst part of camp is having to go home at the
end of the summer, the best part of camp is knowing that you get to come back
next year, and do it all over again. Hannah/Levi, you’ll have a blast in CLC next
year! Good luck! For everyone else, see you next summer!
In this last edition of News@NJW, we discuss the events and activities that our
reporters experienced in the last few weeks of camp!

Have a Hoot!
On Tuesday, Hannah and Levi went on their mystery trip to Have a Hoot! We
all had a great time! At the trip, there was a ropes course, a rock wall, and laser
tag! You could choose between any of those three activities to do. I did the
ropes course. It was a lot of fun. When I went up the ladder, I was pretty nervous. Eventually, I started having a great time! You can also go on the jungle gym.
It was huge. It was a lot of fun. On the jungle gym, you can play tag, play with
ball shooters, jump on trampolines, etc. Have a Hoot was a lot of fun!

Activities
The Giant Swing is the best! It is my favorite activity. After you
get strapped in, your friends pull on a long rope that lifts you
into the air. Every time they pull on the rope, you go higher!
When you get to the top, the instructors count to three, and
you let go of the rope. When you let go you start swinging! It
was not scary at all. It was one of the best activities I did this
summer!
-Jordyn, Hannah
Do you know all of the horses in Horsey? I do! In Horsey, you go on different trails, cross roads, and you practice riding the horse in an arena. It’s pretty fun. You can
choose the horse that you go on if the horse is settled.
You have to wear a helmet because if you fall off the
horse, the helmet protects you. You also need to wear
long pants and heeled shoes. It is one of my favorite
things to do at camp!
-Maya, Abi
BREAKING NEWS ! Congratulations to Heather for coming in first place in the Speed Birkat
competition! Heather came in first place with only 37 seconds! Heather was also the only female in
the competition! If you see Heather walking around, be sure to congratulate her!
High Ropes
High Ropes has always been my favorite elective. I’ve done every element blindfolded. It is a lot of fun
because it is very risky. The Vertical Gym is the hardest element. You need a lot of upper body
strength to do it. The Cat Walk is my favorite. I’ve been to High Ropes so many times that I can put a
harness and a helmet on by myself! High Ropes is a lot of fun and I recommend that you try it out before camp ends if you haven’t already!
-Arielle, Naomi
Cooking
Cooking is my favorite activity. But, when I try to sign up, it’s always full because it’s one of the most popular activities. It is a popular activity because you can make tasty treats like rice crispy treats, omelets, banana bread, etc. It is always very delicious. Jolie and Sarah, the teachers, always help. It is a very fun activity.
You help by chopping up fruit and vegetables, stirring batter, adding ingredients, etc! If you have the
chance, sign up before camp ends! You won’t regret it.

Activities
Flag Football with Kevin and Josh is one of the many activities that you
can pick at Athletics. You get to do a lot of fun things like catching,
throwing, and sometimes even scrimmaging. It’s awesome. You also get
to play in games against other camps like Camp Lakonda and Echo
Lake. Kevin and Josh are both really fun counselors and they teach us a
lot. They both teach track, too! During first session, we had the NJW
Super Bowl. It was a lot of fun. Soon, there will be a Dan vs. Levi game.
I can’t wait!
-Alex, Dan
Mountain Biking
First of all, let me just say that Mountain Biking is super fun. But it also requires a lot
of hard work. You have to be ready for a big challenge. If you are an experienced
rider, you may not think it’s hard. But maybe you are not, and that’s ok. Just be
ready for a workout! When you start, you are going to head off towards the Big I.
Then, once you are there, you will continue on to the Cedar Lake hill. You will go
to the top of it and ride straight into the camp. Eventually, you’ll reach a gravel hill.
You will have to go down it, so make sure you press on the brakes! Then you’ll
head left and ride along the lakefront. This will eventually take you to the bottom of
the Cedar Lake hill. You will go down the path towards athletics and park your bike
in the shed. It is always an exciting activity! Enjoy your ride!
-Ethan, Asher
Kfar Teva
Have you ever slept in a tent and sat around a bonfire telling stories, but not in
camp?
Let me give you a hint. What I’m talking about is literally five minutes from camp.
If you still don’t know what I am talking about, I am talking about Kfar-Teva. At
Kfar Teva, you are in the middle of the woods, either making Israeli salad or colleting firewood for the bonfire (which we make s’mores with). Everyone gets to
go, and everyone enjoys it. One of the workers will tell you a story about his life
in the army. It is an awesome experience. Kfar Teva makes you one with nature.

Lake VS. Pool
The Lake and the Pool are possibly the most popular activities in camp…
But the question is…
Which one is more popular?
Lake
The lake is very popular at Camp Nah-Jee-Wah! During Instructional Lake, you learn about boating! You can go on a kayak, a canoe, a paddle board, a paddle boat, etc! During Recreational Lake,
you can go on the Rave, the Big Slide, or the Little Slide! The Rave is a fun, giant trampoline in the
middle of the lake. You can swing off of it too! The Big Slide is 100 feet long. Everybody loves it.
Everyone always has a lot of fun at the lake!
-Amy, Hannah
Pool
Most people like the Lake a lot better than the Pool. But you can do
more things in the Pool than in the Lake. The Pool is where you can
dive, jump, dive for rings, and lots of other cool things! You can’t really do that at the Lake! Kari likes the pool better! I wonder why?!?!
Go Pool!
-Alison, Hannah
We took a poll around camp to see what
activity was more popular!
And the verdict is...

Camp Life
Have you ever seen Saturn? I have.
If you don’t know what I am talking about, I am talking about stargazing. It isn’t an
elective. It is a privilege that is given to your bunk. It needs to be the perfect night. A
perfect night would have clear skies, no clouds, and bright stars. It happens near High
Ropes, in the CLC Hockey Rink. If you are lucky, you might get the chance to see a
meteor-shower. If you are REALLY lucky, you might get to see a star come to the
end of its life. Everyone enjoys stargazing. Personally, I think that stargazing makes you
one with space.

Serendipity
Last week in camp, a baby donkey was born! We didn’t know that the donkey
from Nature was pregnant, but apparently she was! Sam the Guitar Man helped
deliver the baby. During that week’s Shabbat, we had a baby naming! We named
the baby Serendipity. It was on Friday night. The Rabbi from Cedar Lake came
down to help with the ceremony. For the ceremony, one person from each division went up and said a blessing/wish for the donkey. Then, the Rabbi said a prayer and everyone replied with “amen.” We sang happy songs to celebrate the newest addition to the NJW family! It was the first birth in Nah-Jee-Wah in all of its
years!

Camp Mom
Camp Mom is here to help solve all of your camp problems! You can write
to her with things that are bothering you and she will try to help you find a
solution. To write to her, drop her a letter inside of the box outside of the
Den that says “Camp Mom” on it!
Dear Camp Mom,
It is my first time at camp and I am nervous about
packing. I’m afraid it’s going to be too hard and it really stresses me out! What should I do?
From,
Nervous Nelly
Dear Camp Mom,
I’m really upset about going home when camp ends. I’ve
made so many friends and I’m afraid of missing all of
them! I don’t want to leave!
From,
Camp Lover
Dear Nervous Nelly,
Dear Camp Lover,
Well, remember how in the beginning of the summer,
your counselors helped you unpack? Well, at the end
of the summer, your counselors will help you pack! It
is pretty simple. But, you want to make sure to help
your counselors, so start re-folding all of your clothing now so that it is easier for your counselor to pack
everything! It is also a good idea to check every single
thing in your cubby and make sure that it is yours,
because you don’t want to go home with anything
that isn’t yours!
-Camp Mom
I’m so happy to hear that you loved camp!! It is a very
common thing for campers to not want to leave camp
because of the amazing summer they had. Odds are,
your friends feel the same way! Make sure you exchange
emails and phone numbers with your friends so that you
can keep in touch with them during the school year.
Also, around Thanksgiving, Nah-Jee-Wah holds a reunion for everyone to go to! That way, you can see and
play with all of your friends!
-Camp Mom
Dear Camp Mom,
I’m really nervous to go to school. I’m moving up to
middle school and there are going to be a lot of new people. It is a new environment for me. I know “Camp Mom”
is normally for camp advice, but maybe someone else in
Hannah/Levi feels the same way about Middle School as I
do… Please help!
From,
Soon to be 6th Grader
Dear Soon to be 6th Grader,
It is okay to be nervous! You’re exactly right, it is a new
environment for you. But, you have to realize that it is a
new environment for everyone! Everyone is nervous to go
to a new school and to meet new people. Remember that
all of your friends from 5th grade are moving up with you.
You’ll still have your old friends! Now, because there are
going to be a lot of new people in your grade, you have
the opportunity to make new friends too! Middle School
is going to be a lot of fun, don’t worry! Study hard!
-Camp Mom
Dear Camp Mom,
I’m in Levi and I’m a little nervous about moving up to
Cedar Lake next year. Joseph seems like a lot of fun,
but it is a whole new camp. I’ve been at Nah-Jee-Wah
for years, and I don’t really want to leave…
From,
Levi Till I Die
Dear Levi Till I Die,
I understand what you’re going through. I was nervous
about moving up to Cedar Lake when I was your age
too! Cedar Lake is an amazing camp, and you’ll have
just as much fun up the hill as you did down here.
There are many fun things about Cedar Lake. They
have a ton of electives, fun Saturday programs, and
cool evening activities, just like us! And guess what?
You can walk around by yourself up there! Don’t worry about next year because you will still have the best
summer and time of your life!

At the beach, it is really hot.
So, we get some ice cream to cool us down a
lot.
Ice cream, ice cream, is so sweet,
It is a treat for us to eat!
Every day in the sun,
We have a lot of fun.
Camp is fun,
There is a lot of sun.
We play all day,
Until the day is done.
We swim and we sing,
And we fling on the giant swing!
We dance and we prance,
All over the camp.
At our home away from home,
We never feel alone!
