was fortunate In getting It In so early , as
there was only one bill passed after it * Of

One
thing that helped its quick passage through
the house , was the fact that It was passed on
the day on which the consideration of such
bills ended and the other congressmen who
had similar bills and were impatient to Imvo

the Omaha bill- .
.In speaking of the proposed removal efFort Omaha , Mr. McShnno said that General Sheridan had told him that ho was In
favor of a permanent and strong fort near
Omaha , but lie wanted It further away ftomthu city. It was necessary for the discipline
of the troops , in Its present location he was
not in favor of spending a single dollar uiwtiit. . Mr. McShnnc says that Omaha will have

morning Dr. Hummel was awakened by the
noise of one of these housebreakers in his
parlor. Awakening his son Frank the two
slipped upstairs and loaded their shotgun.
The doctor cocked both barrels and handed
the weapon to his son , who , by the way , Is a
great hunter and splendid shot. Frank wnsto slip around to the front window through
which the burglar had gained entrance and
stand on guard. The doctor armed himself
with tha nx and stood near the folding doors ,
on the other side of which stood the burglar
trying to open them by soft and continued
pressure.
Unfortunately In going through the backdoor Frank allowed it to shut with a slam ,
nnd the thief , taking alarm , Jumped through

Hummel then Hied and ayell of agony followed from the thief , who , dropping his
boodle , consisting of laeo curtains and a rug ,
darted oft In tllo darkness with thu speed of
the wind. Frank next went to thu police box
on the eurner of Lcavcnworth and 1'iirk avenue , got thu Key and called the patrol wagon.
This fiction of Young Hummel was instrumental In tin cuily capture ot the burglar.- .
A sipjad of ofllcurs were dispatched to the
scene in the patrol wagon. Meanwhile tluy
had commenced to dawn and the tracks of the
burglar were plainly marked in thu newly
fallen snow , accompanied by a trull of blood.
The ofllcers started on this trail nnd followed
it over hill and ravinu until it stopped ut aBhauty on the corner of Twenty-sixth and
Capitol avenno.
Inside were found two
negroes in bed , both of whom claimed they
hud not been outside all night. On examining the coat of one of them , named Ed. Williams , the tail was found to be riddled with
shot. Williams was told to get out of bed

about the strong smell of kerosene , when
Williams' room-mate remarked , "Ed's been

bought a gallon of it an' this mawning they
ain't enough of it loft to staht the flan. " The
officers told Williams to go with them and
they would get more coal oil for him. Ho was
taken to the central police station nndDr. . Kulpn was sent for. Armed with a pair
of pincers , the doctor turned Williams on his
stomach and commenced to stpjocz out the
shot. As each grain was thus removed the
fact was heralded throughout the jail by n
howl of pain from the darkoy. No less than
thirty shot were removed , some of them from
his right hand. When visited by the reporter
yesterday Williams was found still lying on
his stomach very much subdued by his experience. . Thu police think ho is responsible
for nil thu late burglaries In Dr. Hummel'9
neighborhood , as his room mate says that
Williams hii'j been in the habit of lying en
his brl nt night without taklngoiTliisclotnes ,
and still later getting up mid disappearing
for hours at n time. Williams is the stepfather otMattio Woods , the colored courtesan
who attempted to kill Editor Green , of the

W.Q claim it is the largest collection of new and stylish goods ever
exhibited in Omaha.- .
We further claim that we have marked our goods at much lower
prices than any other house will name for like qualities and makes.
, This week we will make a specialty on Spring Overcoats. Ot these
we show a splendid assortment ; all the latest shades in fine Meltons ,
Diagonals , &c. , silk and satin lined and beautifully made ; in short , the
most dressy garments that the market affords ; but the most attractive thing about them is the prices these are positively the lowest
ever heard of.-.
As our special bargain this week we offer two styles of Spring
Overcoats at 6. These we can prove are worth double the amount- .
.Theyare made of fine all worsted goods , lined with best double warp
Italian , satin striped sleeve lining , and made like regular custom gar ¬
ments. We have two shades , one a fine grey the.other a brown , either
of them is a splendid color. We challenge any retail clothing house in
the United States to show a like bargain.
Our next price is 7.75 , a fine Melton Overcoat with silk facing and
elegantly trimmed and made. Then we have one at 9.25 , 10.50 ,
12.75 and 14.50 each , and all selected bargains not to be found any- ¬
