Chula-Tyri

Chula-Tyri
A space-faring system where drill technology is remembered but cannot be locally replicated,
Chula-Tyri is a heavily populated, relatively-hospitable cluster of worlds. Though its people wellknow that inhabitted systems are just a few drills away, no planetary authority has yet
discovered the technology or its relics necessary to reach their neighbors. The system has been
a stellar island for two decades, ever since the last drill-capable ships were lost to interstellar
space. The total population of the system is estimated around 127,000,000 human beings.

Venza
Object: Planet, Inert Atmo, Warm, Miscible Biosphere
Population: 1,086
Blasted by solar radiation on the day-side, this tidal-locked rock barely
passes for habitable, withthe few natives still dwelling in bubble cities on its
night side. Planetary approaches must be carefully plotted, for the solar
winds racing around the world's corona are enough to destroy most ships.
The tiny colony is a backwater, mining outpost that rarely sees visitors. Natively, it possesses
little technological capacity, and its people live well below post-tech. The few visitors who light
upon the planet are invariably buyers from Drego, whose more adventurous ore merchants may
risk approaching the planet for cheap cargos.
Drego
Object: Planet, Breathable Atmo, Temperate, Miscible Biosphere
Population: 600,000
A vast ocean surrounding a rocky core, this volcanically-active planet is
home to asmattering of cities floating atop giant, pre-tech atmosphere
processors that have survived the Silence and keep the world's
atmosphere compatible with human life. Once boasting a population of hundreds of millions
atop the dozens of floating processors, only three processors now remain active and
occupied. Most of the planet starved after the Scream, but the
intervening centuries have allowed the now-terraformed oceans to develop enough food to
support the three remaining cities. Above the planet, its moon Rigo serves as a space-station
for resource-gathering missions to the Londo Belt and further out-system towards the
planet's neighbors. With its seas now-teeming, Drego is a major exporter of aquacultural
produce.
Londo Belt
Object: Asteroid Belt
Popultion: 10,000
The Lond Belt is heavily mined from Drego for its wealth of metals. Little visited by those
worlds with their own solid resources, it is of interest largely to the great ocean-world further
in-system of it, but boasts a migratory population of spacers and miners.
Dorva
Object: Gas Giant
Population: None
A medium sized jovian with only two inhabbited moons, Dorva's orbitting worlds are eyed as
the future sites of expansion for the ever-growing populations of Maray. Nearly a dozen of its
moons remain unoccupied, though many make claim to these as-yet undeveloped worlds.
Issigonis
Object: Moon (Dorva), Breathable Atmo, Temperate, Immiscible
Biosphere
Population: 3,000,000
The largest of Dorva's moons, Issigonis is home both to an impressive
human population for its native biosphere. Ganthis, local humanoids
standing over twelve feet tall with between four and a dozen limbs, are
used as sapient beasts of burden. The natives' primitive, tribal
culture has been exploited by the human population for
centuries, as the local biosphere is largely immiscible to human
life. The world is covered by a mat of toxic fungai and algae that,
though the Ganthis are adapted to, sends most humans into
anaphylactic shock. The primitive natives make up nearly a
quarter of the planet's population, and are kept in preserves
outside the bubble cities. The preserves have been made
dependent on the human population for resources and, in
exchange, the Ganthis cultivate escoalgae in the microbial mats.
The escoalgae is used both as a staple food source containing
every amino acid necessary for human life, as well as in the
creation of Issigonian breaked-AI. These AI rely on neural
networks produced within the living escoalgae that, despite their
relatively-short service periods of 8-12 years, far surpass the
processing power of conventional computers.
St. Priyanka
Object: Moon (Dorva), Breathable Atmo, Temperate, Miscible Biosphere
Population: 22,000,000
The smaller of Dorva's two populated moons, St. Priyanka is ruled by the
Hegemony of Shihow Ruism. A conservative, strictly-regimented society
where social caste is the measure of oppurtunity, this repressive regime has
isolated itself from much of the system. Its historical crusades against
the system's other worlds have left their mark, with minority populations of Ruists found on
every major planet. Priyanka produces plenty of agricultural exports and has a vast stellar navy
that secures its position even as the more heavily-populated worlds of Maray expand their
control sunward.
Jano Gap
Object: Space
Population: 0
The Jano Gap is a wide, relatively empty stretch of space between the system's two gas giants.
It has frequently been a battleground between the Ruists of Priyanka and the Lerden Sodality,
but relative peace has ruled the skies over the last decade.
Maray
Object: Gas Giant
Population: None
A massive gas giant surrounded by dozens of moons, Maray is the space-faring hub of ChulaTyrian civilization, and seat of the Lerden Sodality that dominates the system's politics. While only
four of the moons are politically significant, many smaller moons boast at least a few hundred
settlers, colonists, outlaws and seperatists.
Aragundia
Object: Moon (Maray), Breathable Atmo, Cold, Engineered Biosphere
Population: 80,000,000
The seat of the Lerden Sodality, Aragundia was a pre-tech paradise before
the Scream. A single city spans the breadth of the small world, from a time
when billions inhabited it. In the interveining centuries, this world has seen
a major reduction in population. However, it continues to be the mostdensely populated world in the system, and the greatest military power. The world's atmosphere
was long ago terraformed into a universally temperate world, but has since begun to freeze
under the thick layer of polution that crowds the urbanized moon. The Sodality rules via an
oligarchal police state made up of corporate powers. Arogundia is the heart of industry in CulaTyri, and is rumored to be conducting secret experiments to reintroduce psychic acadamies.
Endless stretches of the city have remained unoccupied for centuries, and their ruins are
regularly plied for pre-tech relics by smugglers, violating the strict ban on such pilfering by the
world's Warden.
Irngigerd
Object: Moon (Maray), Thick Atmo, Temperate, Remnant Biosphere
Population: 600,000
A volcanically hyper-active world once the center of the system's industry,
the toxic surface of Irngigerd is long-abandoned. Its remaining inhabitants
live in stations tethered by giant elevators to the planet below. Centuries of
polution have destroyed the world's native biosphere, but the slag of the
past has proved a valuable source of raw materials for the worlds around Maray. Much of the
world's industry is operated by recent Ruist converts who, though they pay lip-service to the
Sodality, are rumored to be more-closely aligned with the navies of Saint Priyanka.
Manasi
Object: Moon (Maray), Corrosive Atmo, Temperate, Miscible Biosphere
Population: 12,000,000
With acidic oceans that slowly eat-away human structures, Manasi is an
invaluable world with Chula-Tyri, for its oceans contain great resevoirs of
fossil fuels. While the Sodality nominally controls the planet, the National
Combine has begun to resent the Sodality's exorbant taxes and strict
export regulations that keep the world poorer than its resources would dictate in an unfettered
market. Separatist and nationalist factions have begun to sieze power within the combine, and
relationships with the Sodality have become increasingly antagonistic.
Dirce
Object: Moon (Maray), Breathable Atmo, Temperate, Microbial Biosphere
Population: 3,000,000
This agricultural world acts as the bread-basket of the Maray planets. The
world's tiny population spans the surface of Maray's largest, mosthospitable moon. Out of fear of disrupting the pristine biosphere, travel to
the planet is strictly controlled by the Sodality. In addition to being the
system's greatest agricultural hub, Dirce is also a great wilderness preserve and retreat for the
Sodality's elite. While Aragundia may be the thrown of the Sodality, Dirce is certainly its crown
jewel.
Klucco Belt
Object: Asteroid Belt
Population: 500,000
Just beyond Maray, this asteroid belt is a source of raw materials for the worlds of Maray, many
of whose moons natively lack large bodies of water. Dozens of stations service the mining
operations amongst the belt under loose allegiance to the Sodality. Theano, the largest of the
belts stations, is also the seat of the Sodality Navy that patrols the system's rim for incoming,
interstellar travel, hoping to sieze the spike-drive capabilities of any visitors who might arrive
from beyond the rim.
Ganthis
The giant Ganthis (both singular and plural) are sapient aliens native
to
Issigonis.
Technologically
primitive
and
intellectually
uncomplicated, Ganthis have been long-pressed into service by the
humans occupying their world. These passive, mighty giants form
small tribes that used to live as seasonally-nomadic horticulturalists
amongst the algae and fungal swamps of their home world.
Decades ago, when humans first began exploiting the escoalgae, the
Ganthis would naively trade large mats of the greenish muck for
exotic foods and technological baubles. Ganthins have never
competed with large predators, nor been subject to high populations.
As a result, they were a passive and generous people quickly rounded
onto reservations and pressed to work harvesting the escoalgae for
their human masters. Now, the reservations are the only areas of the
world that humanity does not intentionally make unlivable for the Ganthis. The species lacks the
sort of cunning common to humans, and possess a simplistic, idealistic outlook that fails to see
even their subjugation with any great resenment. They happily farm the escoalgae and, in return,
receive the treasures of mankind that amuse them.
Ganthis stand between eight and fourteen feet tall. The number of limbs a Ganthis posesses can
vary even between siblings from the bipedal four of a common humanoid to nearly a dozen that
branch wildly from their bizarre bodies. Ganthis biology is host to a number of fungus native to
their planet that about a quarter of humans find mildly irritating, producing an allergic reaction
that causes watery eyes and congestion. Ganthis speak their own language of low, long yowls
and gusty breaths that human beings are incapable of simulating,
but are have no trouble learning human writing systems. Those
Ganthis that find their way into human society are generally fitted
with a braked-AI interpretor made on-planet, which translates their
slow speech into human language.
Most Ganthis remain in their reservations, but a few have found
their way into human society. Though the two species are
segregated on Isigannis, some Ganthis still enter human society as
curiosities, laborors, intermediaries and xenobiologists. Amongst
these, a tiny fraction have found their way off-world into the rest of
the system, where they are a constant source of fascination.
Ganthis roll 4d6 for Strength and 2d6 for Wisdom, but may not
have less than 3 Wisdom nor exceed strength 20 (Str 19 & 20
receive +3). Treat rolls outside these paramaters as 20s or 3s.
Factions
shihow Ruism (Commonly: Ruism)
A Confucian religion stressing the values of filial piety and social order, Ruism is a strictly
patriarchal and conservative belief system. Social hierarchy is set by birth into the various social
castes, and further specified by a child's sex and even birth-order. Unchanging social structure is
the greatest virtue of Ruism, which seeks to bring order and stability throughout Chula-Tyri. The
Filial Vicars of the religions faith serve clans of relatives with absolute authority, with the
Confrence of Tian ruling the entire congregation.
Lerden Sodality (Commonly: The Sodality)
The great governing power of Chula-Tyri controls the worlds around Maray and has the system's
most-powerful military and most-advanced tech. Claiming to be the protectors of the pre-tech
lost since the Scream, the Sodality has fallen on hard times as the worlds of Chula-Tyri struggle
with limited post-tech to support their ever-growing populations. In the dark age that has beset
the last century of Chula-Tyrian civilization, the few remaining spike drives that the Sodality
possessed dwindled in number until eventually disappearing into the black and abandoning the
system. Since the loss of the last Spike drive, the Sodality has begun an aggressive crusade to
bring all of Chula-Tyri under its auspice. However, many of the system's worlds have become
restless under the Sodality's regime, and murmers of rebelion are increasingly common. The
Sodality enforces a socialized economy that forces the system's disparate worlds to share their
resources. This economy has been to the benefit of all, since no planet in the system possesses a
complete catalog of resources necessary to maintain a basic, post-tech standard of living.
National Combine (Commonly: The Combine)
A right-wing movement amongst Manasi nationalists that hold local positions of power, the
Combine chaffes under Sodality control. Xenophobic supremacists, the Combine controls the
greatest wealth of fossil fuels in the system, and its exports are vital to fueling inter-planetary
trade. Control of such a valuable resource has perhaps given the Combine an inflated sense of
self-importance, even as its members ignore that the planet relies on Dirce for food.
Quartertech
The research and technology corporation responsible for Issiganis' braked-AI has recently
expanded its interests into development of psychic-powered technology. The company has
recently turned its eyes towards the long-unoccupied ruins of Aragundia, hoping to explore the
ruins there for hints of pre-tech research into psychic capabilities.
