Organising your event
The 'Booking application form' gives full details
on conditions of hire, including what happens if
you cancel, the deposit etc.
The equipment must be used on a level surface
that is free from debris. The surface should allow
wheels to roll freely without sticking, sinking or
stopping.
As a rough guide, an area equivalent to the size of
a badminton court (13.4m x 6.1m / 44ft x 20ft) is
required to use all the equipment at the same
time. It is possible to run a session with just some
of the equipment (this will be covered during the
supervisor training).
Full details how to set up and run sessions is all
covered on the supervisors training and there is
always a crew information manual inside the
trailer for hirers to refer to at their event.

Supervision
Organisations can request to hire the West Dorset
Mobile Skate Park for use with their group or at their
event. The Mobile Skate Park is delivered inside a
trailer. There is a minimum hire period of 7 days.
Supervisor training is offered for up to 4 people
per organisation so that they know how to set up,
pack away and manage their sessions or event
safely. At least one person aged 18 or over from
the hiring organisation should attend the
supervisors training, and they must be present all
the time that the equipment is in use (once
trained, supervisors can recruit and de-brief other
people who can help with the setting up and
running of sessions). Supervision by WDDC staff is
available but this will be limited.
The equipment includes the following:
West Dorset
Mobile
Skate Park
The mobile skate park package consists
of a trailer containing ramps,
skateboards, helmets of various sizes,
elbow, wrist and knee pads. All free to
hire.
The mobile skate park is run by West
Dorset District Council's Sports
Development Unit, which also manages
the Action Van. The Action Van has
been providing sports coaching, activity
sessions and sports equipment hire to
organisations throughout West Dorset
for over 20 years.

Most of the ramps have to be assembled
but this should take no more that 40
minutes (this should take less time
with practice). The equipment can
be set up in various ways to give
variety, offer a more challenging
street course or to take into
account the space available.
A condition of the hire is that
young people are allowed to
use the skate park for free.
The ramps conform to RoSPA
recommendations.
Hirers are encouraged to involve young people
and enrol them on the supervisors training and
also recruit young people to act as crew members
at events.
Who can use it?
The equipment is available to not for profit
organisations to hire. The mobile skate park has
been purchased with funding from the Big Lottery
to help improve access to play for young
people. Anyone can use the equipment but
it is intended, primarily, for use by young
people. Access to this facility must be free.
The skate park is ideal for use by
people riding skateboards or
using in-line skates. BMX,
mountain bikes and scooters
can also be used but closer
supervision is required as they
can damage the ramps.
