It’s hard to believe but it is once again time for the annual Yaarab Shrine Circus. Anyone having money to turn in for ad, ride or admission ticket sales should do so right away. The Circus will be held May 20-30 at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta 30008. It runs through the Memorial Day week-end, with the final performance being on Memorial Day itself. Detailed information on performances times and ticket prices is available on the Yaarab Shrine website: http://www.yaarabshrine.net., under the “Yaarab Shrine Circus” tab. For those who need last minute information or items, contact the coordinator for that part of the effort. But hurry! The area coordinators are: Circus Admission Tickets - David Gault Ride Tickets - Mike Turner Program Book Ads - Mike Luke Sponsor Sales - Ray Crews Help is needed in the novelty sales booths for every circus performance – daytime and evenings. Shrine Ladies are invited and encouraged to come out and assist with the novelty booth sales. The support of every member of the club is needed. President Herman Johnson and Treasurer Mike Luke are coordinating the operations of the two novelty booths that KMSC will be staffing. Also, the annual Flea Market will be held during the circus. If you have items to donate, please get in touch with one of the officers right away so arrangements can be made to get them collected. Yaarab Chief Rabban Attends April Meeting The club welcomed Yaarab Chief Rabban Danny Huggins to its April meeting. Sir Huggins talked about activities related to the circus and thanked everyone for their continued support and participation during the event. He reminded all that proceeds from the Circus are very important in funding projects, programs and operations for Yaarab Shrine. In addition, Noble Huggins discussed several activities that are planned for the rest of the year, and updated the Nobles on the status of the Hospitals. He also provided an overview of the hospital finances. He thanked the Nobles for the opportunity they have provided him to serve Shrinedom in general and Yaarab Shrine, in particular. KMSC Upcoming Parade Participations At the April meeting, the Club voted to attend both the Marietta 4th of July parade as well as the 63rd annual Old Soldiers Day parade in Alpharetta on Saturday, August 6. That means it is time to start polishing up those cars and getting those clown outfits ready. The parades are a lot of fun and the crowds really seem to enjoy seeing the Shriners pass by. Yaarab Sportsman’s Raffle Tickets Available Tickets are now available for the 2016 Yaarab Sportsman’s Raffle. The raffle drawing, which includes 110 winners, will be held on Saturday, July 30, at Yaarab Shrine Center from noon to 5:00 p.m. Crown of Honor points are awarded for those who sell tickets for the raffle. Outdoorsmen (and women!) love this event. Get tickets to sell from Sportsman’s Raffle ticket chairman, Terry Chafin. Unit News Jokers: The Jokers staff the Bingo snack bar during the month of May. Since May is also Shrine circus month, every available Joker is needed to help keep the Circus and the Bingo needs met. Please coordinate with Jokers President Terry Chaffin on when you can help. Every hand is certainly appreciated! The next meeting of the Jokers unit will be the semi-annual meeting scheduled on June 20. Start planning now to come out for that meeting. We don’t meet often, so it is nice to have as many as we can in attendance at the meetings we have. -ContinuedNO MAN IS EVER TALLER THAN WHEN HE STOOPS TO HELP A CHILD An Affiliate of Yaarab Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., Atlanta, Georgia KMSC Monthly Update May 2016 Page Two of Two Bingo Update The bingo program is going well. We see new players come in on a regular basis. And, our long-time players seem to be continuing to enjoy themselves. Thanks to those members of the club who come out to help staff the sessions. It is very true that, “We couldn’t do it without you!” Of course there is always room for additional staffers. On a sad note, one of our long-time players succumbed to cancer since our last edition. Diane Arnold was a regular bingo player at the club for more than 20 years and was well known to the bingo staff. She will be missed. Sickness and Distress There are quite a few in the KMSC family who are facing personal or family issues and who are in need of our prayers at this time. Here are those that we know about at press time. Please remember them when on bended knee. Past Potentate and club Past President Marshall Stephens is dealing with health issues from a recent fall. Lady Linda Turner, wife of club First V.P. Mike Turner is recuperating well from recent surgery. Noble Mike Luke’s mother was hospitalized recently for several days. She is home now and recovering well. Past President Howard (Budda) Cook continues to deal with several health issues. Noble Harry Vaughn’s daughter-in-law is continuing her treatments for a very serious health problem. Noble Gary Jones is continuing his treatment for recent health complications. While not a member of the club, Eddie Johnson, an HVAC whiz who had become a good friend of the club’s in recent years, passed away in late April from cancer at the young age of 51. We will miss his smile, his friendship and his kind ways. Of course, we should always say a prayer for all of our military personnel, especially those stationed in hostile environments. May God Bless them, their families and may God always bless America. The longest word currently listed in any dictionary is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
