Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who lives in a
big house in London on Cherry Tree Lane. Things are not
going well for the family, the children, Jane & Michael, are
out of control & are in need of a new nanny. Jane &
Michael have their own ideas about what sort of caretaker
they should have, while their parents & in particular Mr.
Banks are insistent on someone strict for the job.
When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins
appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the
answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way.
Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical &
memorable adventures, but Jane & Michael aren’t the only
ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can
learn a lesson or 2 from the nanny who advises that
“anything can happen if you let it.”

Grumpy Old Women: Game Of Crones
Yes, they're back! This time with magic! Grumpy Old
Women bring their Game of Crones to answer the
unanswerable. How to fix absolutely everything!
They conquered NZ with Grumpy Old Women, took
Australia & the Uni by storm with 50 Shades of Beige &
now they're in another World. Yes!
Grumpy Old Women: Game of Crones is coming & it offers
practical remedies for the atrocities of modern life.
Advice for administering safe torture to prevent snoring
using BBQ tools. Demos of how to clean the bath whilst
having mediocre sex at the same time. How to overeat on
a diet. What to do when the man in your life kisses your
miniature Schnauzer more than you.
In Game of Crones, the young are discussed & then
dismissed. Men are lovingly disembowelled. Old fashioned
housekeeping practises resurrected; is it too late to learn to
sniff meat to determine if it’s past its use-by date?
Grumpy Old Women will stop for nothing on their mission
to slay the dragons of nonsense & reclaim the kingdom of
common sense... well maybe a glass of wine & a lie down.
The show has plenty of laughs, poorly supported breasts &
unreliable statistics, so for a night of unbridled fun.
Take your swords & handbags & learn from the sorceresses
themselves, how to survive the modern kingdom of
Aoteoroa.
Geraldine Brophy directs & stars with Lynda Milligan &
Julie Edwards in this hilarious piece of fantasy thankfully
without nudity or real blood.

Choral Evensong
On Mothering Sunday every year the small & beautiful
choir of St. Peter's in Mount Maunganui visits the
"Mothership" Cathedral in Napier to provide the music for
their morning service & celebrate Choral Evensong.
This year the theme is Victorian Composers & music is
sung & played by Elgar, Goss, & Sumsion. Lush & easy to
listen to, very effective & melodious music. Gooey &
extremely enjoyable.
Choral Evensong has a long tradition - it is an evening
service in which all main parts are sung, except for a few
prayers & a brief address. The prayers are from the
Common Book of Prayer from 1662 & the language is
beautiful, understandable & surprisingly appropriate for
modern life. Now that the busy day is over, grant us safe
lodgings.
Enjoy a quiet hr in a traditional church service to prepare
for your evening in Napier with beautiful music &
meditation.

Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Boy
Alliance Française French Film Festival 2017
It's a week of firsts for Jimmy Barnes. Not only is the
Australian rock icon releasing his 1st ever book, he’s also
announcing his 1st ever ‘spoken word’ tour.
Working Class Boy: An Evening of Stories & Songs will see
Jimmy leaving behind the arenas & rock gigs where he’s
blazed a trail for decades. Instead he will now be telling his
life story for the 1st.
This unique live theatrical production is a companion piece
to the eagerly anticipated 1st volume of his memoirs Working Class Boy, released by Harper Collins on Monday
19 September. The book was written entirely by Jimmy
Barnes. It tells the raw & confronting story of fleeing the
poverty of Scotland only to endure violence & abuse as an
immigrant in the suburbs of Adelaide. The book explains
what drove Jimmy to ultimately escape everything via
rock’n’roll & its associated lifestyle. Fittingly, the childhood
memoir ends with an 18yr old Jimmy & the fellow
members of his new band, Cold Chisel, fleeing Sth Australia
in the back of a truck full of musical equipment.
“Just like the book, this live show will tell the story of an
imperfect childhood that has led to me becoming an
imperfect adult”, explains Jimmy. "I spent most of my life
running from my childhood & now it seems like my time to
face it. So this is the story of a lifetime spent running away.
Running from fear. Running from shame but at the same
time running from hope. I’m not running anymore"
This special live event will see Jimmy sharing stories from
his troubled childhood & delinquent adolescence. It will
also see him accompanied by his musical companions,
delivering intimate performances, of some key songs
drawn from his earliest years. This tour will be a treat with
lots of storytelling providing a real insight into the events
that shaped Jimmy's life and his music.

glossy A3 book for you to peruse & purchase if you wish.
Gail is a Napier artist & has exhibited in a number of
Hawke’s Bay exhibitions over many years. She was
accepted in the NZ Art Show in Wellington in 2016. As a
result of this exposure, many of her paintings now hang in
homes & businesses in Hawkes Bay, throughout NZ &
overseas. She likes the humorous side of life & includes the
occasional irreverent touch in her work. She enjoys it when
the viewer smiles or chuckles as they view her paintings.
Jill majored in Art at Palmerston North Teacher’s College
from 1974 - 77 with artists & tutors Paul Dibble, Cliff
Whiting & Ray Thorburn. She paints for the pure
enjoyment of applying paint to canvas. The ideas for
paintings are random, textural & distilled from everything
she sees in the world around her. She has exhibited widely
& participated in many workshops including Max Gimblet’s
Sumi Ink Art at EIT.
Christine has been painting for a number of years, &
belongs to the Humanity Painters’ group under the
tutorage of Helen Kerridge. Christine has exhibited widely,

Nature’s Palette – Watercolours by Bev Doohan
(until 31 Mar)
After a lifetime of involvement with plant material from
30yrs doing church flowers, to 20yrs as a Floral Designer
with the Floral Art Society of NZ’s Taradale Floral Art
Group & a keen gardener, Bev Doohan has been up close &
personal with plant material for a long time.
The desire to paint plant material & the natural world had
been sitting at the back of her mind for a few years, but
life got in the way & Bev always felt this was very much a
pipe dream. When the opportunity came to join Evelyn
Thomson’s Studio as a pupil it was too good an
opportunity to pass up. Thanks to Evelyn, Bev has enjoyed
10yrs of watercolour painting, which she finds a frustrating
yet challenging medium; “Water colour takes no prisoners
but the feeling of satisfaction when you think you may
have got it right makes it all worthwhile”.
