Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Vail have
a new son born at noon Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Westphal Maternity home. The baby weighed
five and one half pounds and has
been named John Dana.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wenschlag became the parents of a
five pound daughter, born Monday at the Westphal Maternity
home. They named the little girl
Madonna Rae.
Cards received last week by local friends announced the birth,
on December 22nd, of a daughter,
Shirley Ann, weight just under
seven pounds, to Mr. and Mrs.
Wm. DeRouchey, of Long Beach,
California.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John
T. Schneider, of Gettysburg,
and Otto Anderson, son of Mrs.
Ragna Anderson, of Akaska,
were married Thursday, January
9th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Catholic

Coleta Beringer was given the
nod for Gettysburg Snow Queen
in the contest sponsored by the
Junior Chamber of Commerce
Thursday evening last week. She
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Beringer.
Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Eldeen
are the parents of a son born at
the Holy Infant hospital in Hoven
on Dec. 31. The lad weighed in at
8 pounds 3 ounces and has been
named William Lee.
Mr. and Mrs. William Schilling
announce the engagement and
approaching marriage of their
daughter, Marilyn to Eugene
Tobin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Tobin. The date has been set for
January 27.
50 years ago - 1967
Marty Lynn Heier, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Heier,
has been chosen as the Daughters of the American Revolution
candidate from Gettysburg high
school. Marty plans to enroll at
Northern State College and become an elementary teacher.
Sen. George McGovern announced the appointment of
Michael Bohnenkamp, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Bohnenkamp,
as an alternate for the United
States Air Force Academy near
Colorado Springs.
Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas of
Gettysburg announce the marriage of their daughter Linda to
Dana Vail, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin Vail Dec. 28 at Las Vegas,
Nev.
Mrs. Inger Geist and Gerald
(Brick) Duncan were married
Thursday, Dec. 29 in Rapid
City.

Madison Community Hospital.

girl born Jan. 13. She weighed
5 pounds 6 1/2 ounces and has
been named Amy Lynn. Her
mother is the former Mary Kay

presented “Silver Dolphins” denoting his qualification as a submariner and was also promoted
to his present rank.
Potter County Commissioners held their first meeting of
1987 on Jan. 6. Merv Stewart
was elected chairman. Joining
him on the board are, Wilfred
Fischer, Jeannine (Mike) Van
Den Eykel, Bruce Williams, and
Louis Brickner. Van Den Eykel
and Williams are newly-elected
commissioners.
20 years ago - 1997
The following area students
have been named to the dean’s
list for academic excellence during the fall semester at South

and Dillon Corcoran, and Tyler,
Michael and Amber Fischer
were the Junior Division Talent
winners at the Annual Snow
Queen Contest in Aberdeen. The
boys sang their unique rendition of ‘Grandma’s Feather Bed”
while Amber accompanied on
the piano.
10 years ago - 2007
A Potter County landmark was
burned down last week. Owned
by Cronin Farms, the old Gorman
elevator in the southern part of
the county was burned on Jan. 4
for safety reasons. The elevator
was last managed by Howard
Forgey before it was closed in
1976. The old wooden elevator
sent up a billow of smoke that
could be seen for many miles.
Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND announces 265 students have been named to the
Dean’s List for the 2006 fall
semester. Included on the list
are Gettysburg students Kylee
Rausch, daughter of Mike and
Twila Rausch, and Ryder Weischedel, son of Terry and Nancy
Weischedel.
Jhett Matthew Simon was
born Jan. 5, 2007. He weighed 7
pounds 6 ounces and measured
19 1/2 inches long. He is the son
of Darrin and Sally Simon of
Gettysburg, and his big sister is
two-year-old Tyler.
Mary Kate is in the spotlight
this week in Mrs. Witte’s Kindergarten class. Mary Kate is
the daughter of Rose Marie and
Doug Hoiten. When she grows
up she wants to be a teacher. If
she could have one wish, Mary
Kate said, “I wish for a dog — a
REAL ONE!!”
