Chaplain Bob Miller
Not gone, Never forgotten
A great servant of the Living God went to
his eternal home a few weeks ago. For over sixty
years, he served his Lord as faithfully as any man
or woman I’ve ever known or known about. His life
was a perfect example of what a true Christian
looks like, lives like, and loves like. He was never
proud or power-hungry. He was a humble servant.
He was never cold or aloof. He was always
available and willing to go the extra mile. He was
never self-serving nor demeaning of others. He
taught that in Christ we are all equally precious.
His love and generosity has been attested to by the
hundreds of lives he touched in the name of Christ.
He was as obedient to the commandment to “ love
the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, and with all your might and to love your
neighbor as yourself”, as any man living in this
fallen world could be.
His faith seemed
unshakeable as a result of his never-ending study
of the Word. He searched the Scriptures diligently
and found God’s Word to be real, reliable and
reassuring. He believed that the answers to all
life’s questions both small and large could be found
in the pages of the Holy Book. His faith, his
example, his actions, his love for the lost were
proof to so many that God is real. He was a true
reflection of the light and the love of the Savior.
They say that behind every great man there’s a
great woman, but in this man’s case the great
woman/wife was BESIDE him. For over 66 years
they served the Lord together and shared the
Gospel, the ‘Good News,’ of Jesus Christ with
everyone who was blessed to cross their path.
Mom we love you. Pop we miss you, but because
of your faithfulness, so many of us will be there to
see you again and to see our Savior face to face
when the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time
shall be no more.
On behalf of my Mother and family I would like, to
take a moment to thank everyone for their
outpouring of love, respect and support for us in
these most difficult of times. Those that sent food,
flowers/cards and traveled to give a testament to
honor our father’s life, many accomplishments and
friendships...let our humble words fill your heart,
“Thank you and God Bless you”.

Keepsakes For Our Chaplain
by a friend
Thoughts of you bring me strength today,
As I face the farm industry’s pain and loss,
with great need apparent everywhere,
unable to met the cost.
Its then my heart sends memories
of you, to keep in mind,
examples of a Godly man,
and of your Christian life.
The way you held your family close
and prayed to handle strife
Your smiling words, always seeking the Lord
So, I knelt and sought Him too,
and closed my eyes to pray these words,
‘Father strengthen me, a Christian man,
Make me just like Pop’.
And by His mercy, I slowly felt renewed.
Your examples are my keepsakes,
I needed a gentle poke
I know until we meet again-never will we part.
Now, God has you in His keeping
But He left your wisdom in my heart!

WISH LIST
Is Swearing - Just Harmless?
Society’s standard of language has declined in
recent years, but we don’t have to decline with
it. We should be “very careful...how we live” we
should remember to honor God when we
speak.
If anyone among you thinks he/she is religious,
and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his
own heart, this one’s religion is useless. James
1:26
It is important to use kind, positive words-even
when addressing harsh subjects. “Harsh words
stir up anger,” but “ the tongue of the wise uses
knowledge rightly” (Prov. 15:1-2)
Avoid words that reflect poorly on who we are
as God’s children. Paul’s admonition to “let no
corrupt word proceed out of your mouth” (Eph.
4:29) sets a strong standard for the righteous
use of words.
To honor God, use words that are pleasing and
acceptable to our holy God.
Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps
his soul from troubles” (21:23)
The tongue can be a blessing
And the tongue can be a curse.
Say, friend, how are you using yours:
For better or for worse? -Anon.
‘Road Worthy’ horse trailer,
or enclosed cargo van, good
condition for schlepping items
from point A to point B in bad
weather. It doesn’t have to be
pretty - just usable.
Also:
We really need CLEAN beds,
and working washing machines.

It’s a Great Book
Old Testament Books
Law--five
Historical-twelve
Poetical-five
Prophetical-seventeen
(Major, five. Minor, twelve)
New Testament Books
The New Testament was written
to reveal to us the character and teaching of Jesus
Christ, the mediator of the New Covenant, by at
least eight men, four of whom-Matthew, John, Peter
and Paul– were apostles; two-Mark and Luke– were
companions of the apostles; and two-James and
Jude-were brothers of Jesus. The books were
written at various times during the second half of the
first century.
The books in the New Testament may be grouped :
Gospels-four
History-one
Prophecy-one
Epistles-twenty-one
(Pauline, thirteen; General, eight)
God, humanity, sin, redemption, justification,
sanctification, glorification: In two words-grace and
glory. In one word-Jesus.
Christ quotes from twenty-two Old Testament
books; in Matthew, nineteen times; in Mark, fifteen
times; in Luke twenty-five; in John, eleven.
The book of Hebrews quotes the Old Testament
eighty-five times.
Revelation quotes the Old Testament 245 times.
The King James Version contains these
interesting elements:
Number of verses-31,102
Number of words-775,693
Longest book in the Old Testament-Psalms
Longest book in the New Testament-Luke
Most chapters in the New Testament-Matthew.
G. Campbell Morgan, the well-respected Bible
teacher stated, “The Bible can be read from
Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 at pulpit rate in 78
hours.” I personally opted to begin in Genesis, Job
and Matthew and read a page or two of each
section every day. This method took me through the
entire Bible in one year. I wrote in the margin of
every page the key message I learned from that
page. I did this to ‘think through’ the Bible story.
The books of the Bible were given to us by 40
different authors over a period of about 1,600 years.
The Book is unlike all others, a divine revelation, a
progressive revelation a revelation of God to
humanity communicated through men. Genesis, the
beginnings; in Revelation we have endings; and
from Exodus to Jude we see how God carried out
His purpose. We can’t dispense with any part of it.
The Old Testament is the foundation; the New
Testament is the superstructure. To build a building
is
impossible unless there is a foundation. So the Old
Testament and New Testament are essential to one
another. The word Testament means “covenant or
agreement” The Old Testament is the covenant God
made with people about their salvation before
Christ came. The Old Testament begins with God
(Genesis 1:1) and we find the covenant of law.
The New Testament begins with Christ (Matthew
1:1) it is the agreement God made with people
about their salvation after Christ came. One of the
greatest needs of today’s Christians is to come back
to the Scriptures as the basis of authority, and to
study them. When we read God’s Word, we fill our
hearts with His words, and God is speaking to us,
and although the Bible is an available, open book, it
is a closed book to millions-either because they
leave it unread, or because they read it without
applying its teaching to themselves-a way of life not
followed. The Bible opens His Word to us and
teaches us God’s absolute truth, Jesus Christ. It
can’t be understood by reading snippets here and
there but by reading it from beginning to end. There
is no other way. When you’re looking for
answers...look to the Bible.
(Excerpts from: Dr. Henrietta Mears-What the
Bible is all about)
A father was approached by his small son who told him
proudly, 'I know what the Bible means!'
His father smiled and replied, 'What do you mean, you
'know' what the Bible means? The son replied, 'I do
know!' 'Okay,' said his father. 'What does the Bible
mean?' 'That's easy, Daddy...' the young boy
replied excitedly,' It stands for:
'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'
What’s on the other side?
A terminally ill man turned to his doctor as he was
preparing to leave the examination room and said,
‘Doctor, I am afraid to die—tell me what lies on, the
other side.
Very quietly the doctor said, ‘I don’t know.’
‘You don’t know? You’re a Christian man, and you
don’t know what’s on the other side?’
The doctor was holding the handle of the door,
on the other side came a sound of scratching and
whining.
As the doctor opened the door, a dog sprang into the
room and leaped on him with an eager show of
gladness and affection.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said, ‘Did you
notice my dog?
He's never been in this room
before.
He didn't know what was
inside.
He knew nothing except that his
master was here,
And when the door opened, he
sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the
other side of death,
But I do know one thing...
I know my Master is there and
that is enough...

Matthew 5:11–16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may
see your good works and glorify your Father.
No one really wants to hear what we have to say
about the love of Jesus until they’ve seen it in our
lives (Matt. 5:16). Then even the most ardent
opponents to the gospel may just be glad you’re in
their town, their office, or their neighborhood. And
then
you just might be able to tell them about Jesus.
Let us go forth, as called of God,
Redeemed by Jesus’ precious blood;
His love to show, His life to live,
His message speak, His mercy give
When you share the gospel, make sure you live it.

Be Cautious Dial 911
It was about 1:00 pm in the afternoon, she was
driving to visit a friend when an UNMARKED
police car pulled up behind her and put his
lights on.
She had been taught never to pull over for an
unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather
to wait until she got to a safe place.
She promptly called 911on her cell to tell the
dispatcher that there was an unmarked police
car with a flashing red light on his rooftop
behind her and she wouldn’t pull over right
away. The dispatcher checked to see if there
were police cars in that area and there weren't,
he told her to keep driving, remain calm and
that he had back up already on the way.
Ten minutes later cop cars surrounded her and
the unmarked car behind her. They found the
man was a convicted rapist and wanted for
other crimes.
Most women don’t think about 911 but
especially for a woman alone in a car, you
should not pull over for an unmarked car.
Apparently police have to respect your right to
keep going to a safe place.
You obviously need to make some signal that
you acknowledge them, ie.. put on your
hazard lights etc and then call FHP.
So, now it's your turn to remind your friends
and loved ones to NOT pull over until they
reach a gas station, etc., remind them to call
911 .
It’s Heartwarming!

When the men of his squadron are going on a
mission, they take turns walking through the grass
on American soil--to bring them good luck.
Notice he is carefully cutting his grass with a pair of

Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don’t
stop and think about the little things we take for
granted.

Sins of parents are unfortunately often
amplified by their children...
Live A Good Example!
As I have trod this Christian course
and walked its narrow trail,
one lesson grace has taught me:
Is that praise will never fail.
I've dwelt in sorrow's regions
giving way to grief and tears,
with wavering faith unsteady
as I've battled doubts and fears.
Yet He quenches not the smoking flax
nor breaks the wounded reed,
and supplies my daily manna
ample still to meet my need.
For His grace is all sufficient
and in weakness I'm made strong
as a peace surpassing reason
fills my heart with Heaven's song.
I humbly thank my Savior
for hands scarred by sin struck nails,
grateful that He's shown me yet:
my praise will never fail.
The Bible holds that golden key
unlocking Satan's grasp,
that as we praise and honor God
our freedom comes at last.
So, I choose to greet the morning,
assured His mercy will prevail,
and extol Christ as my Savior:
For my praise will never fail!

The Benefits of Fruit!
Its fresh fruit time. We all think
eating fruit means just buying
fruit, cutting it up and popping it
into our mouths. It's not
that easy. It's important to know
how and when to eat fruit.
What's the correct way to eat fruit?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUIT AFTER A MEAL! FRUIT
SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
Fruit is the most important FOOD. Let's say you eat
two slices of bread, then a slice of fruit. The slice of
fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into
the intestines, but it's prevented from doing so. In the
meantime, the whole meal rots and ferments, and
turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact
with the food in the stomach, and digestive juices, the
entire mass of food begins to spoil.
Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your
meal! You've heard people complain: Every time I eat
watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach
bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the
toilet, etc. This will not happen if you eat the fruit on
an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying
other food and produces gas. Hence, you bloat!
When you need to drink fruit juice drink only fresh
fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't drink juice that
has been heated. Don't eat cooked fruit; you don't get
the nutrients at all. You get only the taste. Cooking
destroys
all
of
the
vitamins.
Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice.
If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by
mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your
saliva before swallowing it.
You can go on a 3-day fruit-fast to cleanse your
body. Eat fruit and drink fruit juice for just 3 days,
and
you will be surprised when your friends say how
radiant you look!
KIWI: Tiny but mighty, and a good source of
potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its
vitamin C content is twice that of an orange!
AN APPLE a day keeps the doctor away? Although
an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has
antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity
of vitamin C, thereby helping to lower the risk of colon
cancer,
heart
attack
&
stroke.
STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have
the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits
& protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vesselclogging free radicals.
EATING 2 - 4 ORANGES a day may help keep colds
away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney
stones, and reduce the risk of colon cancer.
WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of
92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of
glutathione, which helps boost our immune system.
Also a key source of lycopene, the cancer-fighting
oxidant. Also found in watermelon: Vitamin C &
Potassium.
GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They
are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.
Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent
constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene, good for your
eyes.
For those who like to drink cold water, this applies to
you. It's nice to have a cold drink after a meal,
however, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that
you've just consumed, which slows digestion. Once
this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down
and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid
food. It will line the intestine and become fat.
So, now you know more than you wanted to about
nature’s best...FRUIT.
He thinks
the sign is
a bit much!

Thoughts on weaning
The main concerns for the timing and method of
weaning are stress and an accompanying
increased probability for illness or injury. While
there is some disagreement among experts just
how the deed is to be done, all agree that the foals
should be eating comfortably on their own from a
creep feeder before weaning and most consider it
best to wean between 4 and 5 months of age if
possible. Is the foal currently ill or has the foal
recently recovered from an illness? If the
answer is yes to either of these, you should wait
until the foal is healthy before proceeding.
•
•
Does the foal remain close to the dam at all
times and appear to panic when separated?
Before weaning, foals should be showing
definite signs of independence by associating
freely with other foals without being too
concerned about the location of the dam.
Do you have another foal of similar age?
Misery loves company. Regardless of the
method used, having company will make
things go more smoothly. It is best to group
foals that have been raised together in order to
reduce the risk of exposing the foal to new
diseases during this time.
As for the question of how, there are two
basic approaches, abrupt and gradual. Some
experts, who would liken weaning to pulling
tape from skin, will tell you that short-term
stress is better than subjecting foals to the
more prolonged stress experienced using a
gradual method. For others, the reduced stress
offered by gradual weaning methods seems
best,
regardless
of
its
duration.
One example of an abrupt method:
Step 1. Place at least two mares with foals in
adjacent stalls overnight.
2. The following morning, remove any
buckets from the stall then remove the
•
mares to a place out of sight and earshot
from the foals. After the foals begin to
regain some of their composure, replace
the buckets and leave the foals alone for
the remainder of the day.
3. The following day, if the foals are not
•
broke to halters, it is a common practice to
place halters on the foals with leads that
are 4- 4.5ft in length (just long enough to
be reached by a hind leg). Leads made of
¾ " nylon cord work very well as drag lines.
They're big enough to grip, they can be
melted on the end to prevent fraying
instead of having an end splice or knot that
can become snagged. Another plus is that
when they get dirty and packed with mud,
they become rigid enough to prevent
entanglement..
After allowing some time for adjustment,
calmly begin to handle the foal. However,
at this stage a foal’s attention span is very
limited so you should keep handling
sessions shortened to about 15 minutes or
less.
Gradual/method for weaning:
Step 1. Retain mares with their foals in
stalls or a small corral for several days.
2. Take mares into an adjacent stall or pen
for 3-4 days. (Note: the separating fence
should not permit nursing, and should be
examined closely for sturdiness, loose
nails and wire).
3. Make food and water available on the side of
the stall near the mare. As with the
decision of when to wean, the ideal
weaning method for you may depend on
352.629.9645 or 800.366.9645
several factors that pertain to how your
facility is laid out, and how much handling
your foal has experienced prior to weaning.
Here are some of the concerns you may
have when deciding on a weaning plan.
How big is your place? If you cannot remove
the mares completely from the foals proximity
(out of earshot) abrupt weaning is not an
option. To do so would incur more stress over
a long time.
Do you have stalls? If you do not have a safe
and confined area such as a stall, abrupt
weaning is probably not a good option for you
either. Foals which are separated completely
from their dams in corrals or pastures will be
much more likely to injure themselves
regardless of the relative safety of the fencing.

A Christian Ministry with horses
Story Book Meadows was
created in 2008 to offer the
healing and hope that is available
through the spirit of horses to
children, adolescents and adults.
In their gentle and solemn way,
horses are able to make our
world a better place. Whether a
youth wants to learn to ride, a
woman needs to unravel at the end of a stressful day, or a
father wants to learn how to reconnect with his child, our
herd is here to welcome them. Those of us who live with
horses know the truth of what Winston Churchill said…”the
outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man”. The
purpose of this ranch is to enable anyone to discover that for
themselves. The ranch is a peaceful environment with no
expectations. Visitors can choose to find their balance and
harmony in any way that is comfortable to them. We are here
to offer support, prayer and encouragement. If someone
desires to learn more, we’re here to facilitate their learning
from the animals themselves. The messages each person
takes away from the ranch will last a lifetime. We invite the
Holy Spirit to dwell among us and bring each person to a
deeper understanding of the God that created us. Children
and adolescents are welcomed into our Horses Helping
Youth programs and adults can choose from the various
programs offered that suit their
needs. Equine-assisted experiential
learning is a powerful and
effective approach to personal
growth and development for
individuals and groups. It is
effective in teaching people of all
ages skills such as confidence,
responsibility, problem solving,
appropriate responses to life
situations, consistency and leadership. Participants learn
better communication skills and build their self-esteem
through hands-on involvement with horses. Our Equine
Assisted Psychotherapy/Counseling sessions follow the
EAGALA model utilizing a Licensed Mental Health
Professional and Equine Specialist to help clients with
emotional issues. "It takes counseling out of the office and
into the arena for a more fun, experiential and quicker way to
resolve issues such as child abuse, domestic violence, anger
management, veteran integration, addictions, grief, autism
and more. "I have watched our horses show at-risk teen girls
with juvenile records, how to come together as a team to
succeed at reaching a goal together and the joy they
expressed at succeeding at a task that seemed impossible,"
says Trish Carlo, "We have seen the Holy Spirit work
through the horses to teach these girls amazing things about
themselves and relationships that will stay with them for a
lifetime." "I've heard girls say they could be healed just
visiting the peaceful farm setting and I've seen the horses
laughter back to a hurting child".
Programs offered:
Horses Helping Youth,
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy/Counseling,

Fellowship by the Pond.
We charge a nominal fee for most of our programs and these
fees do not cover our costs to run the ranch so we depend on
donations. Our greatest dream is to offer our healing/
teaching programs to all children and adolescents at no cost,
so no child misses out on receiving the gift of love from our
herd. Our costs to run the ranch at this time are about
$120,000 annually. Any cash donations are appreciated.

A chaplain waited in line to pay, so he could get
his car filled with gas, just before a long holiday
weekend. The cashier worked quickly, but
there were many ahead of him in line. Finally, the
attendant ask him which pump. 'Chaplain,' said
the young man, 'I'm so sorry about the
delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the
last minute to get ready for a long trip.'
The chaplain chuckled, 'I know what you
mean. It's the same in my business.'
A Quote from Ronald Reagan:
“If we ever forget that we are
one nation under God,
then we will be a nation gone under”.
I truly believe this is why the United
States of America is in the shape we are
in today.
Most people have forgotten that we
are one nation under God! Let us
as Christians stand up and remind
everyone of this!

•
you'll probably want to use an abrupt weaning
method. In the days immediately following
weaning the foal will be somewhat insecure.
This provides an opportunity for you to
become a source of leadership and
reassurance (these are properties the foal is
accustomed to receiving from the dam). By
beginning your new relationship with the foal
the following day after weaning, you can often
prevent the development of bad habits by
establishing yourself as an influence before
the foal becomes too "self reliant". Depending
on your circumstances, you may want to wean
on Friday morning so you can plan several
short stall visits over the weekend. This will
help the foal to adjust from the relationship he
had with his dam to the relationship he will
quickly seek to have with you. Foals that are
not handled and are weaned using a gradual
method will typically require considerably more
time and effort in convincing them why they
might want to listen to you.
If your foals have been handled regularly, you may
wish to wean them in small groups. However,
regardless of how gentile your foal may be, keep it
up in a stall or a small pen. Giving it too much
space during this period will promote panic and the
foal will be more likely to act in a frantic and
dangerous manner. If you have only a single foal
to wean, a gradual method would be best. In
addition, if your single foal has not been trained to
accept the halter and lead, now would be the best
time to start, while still at the mare's side. What
about the mare? Remove grain or other feed
concentrates from her diet for a period of 7-10
days after the foal is weaned. If you have grass
hay, feed it. If you have only alfalfa, cut the
amount fed to 1% of the mares body weight (the
minimum roughage requirement). This will aid in
slowing lactation and help to guard against
founder and colic as her lactation process shuts
down. As for which weaning method is best for
mares, both are probably about the same.
However mares may "dry up" faster when an
abrupt method is used. Finally, regardless of the
method you plan to use, always wean in the early
morning so that it will be cooler during the most
stressful period and both the mare and foal will
have the entire day to adjust before nightfall. This
will also give you the benefit of being able to look
in on things from time to time. Good Luck!
May today there be peace within
May you trust God that you are
exactly where you are supposed to be
May you not forget the infinite possibilities
that are born of faith
May you use those gifts that you have
received, and pass on the love that
has been given to you
May you be confident knowing you are a
child of God, let this present settle into
your bones and allow your soul the
freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and
everyone of us.
