COLLEGE LIBRARY
I am sorry that the Library has not been fully available to
members, although it has always been possible to deal
with enquiries on historical matters, and during the last two
years to supply photocopies and other material for historical
research. The delay has been due to a combination of
factors, the most important of which were: the structural
alterations necessary to support the weight of the books; the
increased shelving required to contain the books; the
rearranging and refurbishing of the Library itself and the
lack of professional help with the indexing and rearrange
ment of the books.
These obstacles have now in the main been overcome. I
am particularly happy to report the appointment of Mrs
Susan Floate as part-time Librarian, the first professional
Librarian that we have ever had. Mrs Floate took up her
duties on 1 May 1980.
Although a start has been made on the indexing and re
arrangement of the books, there is still a formidable task
ahead. However, it is hoped that the Library will be open on
a regular part-time basis from 1 September of this year.
