Mr. Wadle’s Consumer Math Class
Classroom Syllabus
Welcome to my class! I’m looking forward to a fantastic year with you. In this class you’ll be deailing
with topics such as car and home financing, income and sales taxes, paychecks and timeclock hours –
just to name a few. The academic goal that I have set for you is to acquire and/or develop the skills
necessary to be successful in the real world. I also expect you to set your own goals as well. I have
high expectations for each one of you and ask that you strive to not only meet them, but to exceed
them! I have an open-door policy so feel free to come and talk to me regarding any problems you are
experiencing in or out of my classroom that may be affecting your progress toward the above goals.
What materials are needed for this class?
! Textbook
! Three-ring binder with dividers OR an organized notebook
! Colored pencil, pen or highlighter
! Scientific calculator (brought to class daily)
! Pencil or pen, and eraser
! Lined notebook paper
What does the teacher expect from me?
I expect each student to come ready to learn. This means that you will be in class on time, have
good attendance, and bring the above items with you daily. Of course you are also to bring your
completed homework assignment with you each day. Above all, I expect you to bring a positive
attitude. Remember, ATTITUDE IS A CHOICE.
What can I expect from the teacher?
You can expect me to plan my lessons, show how the mathematics we learn can be applied,
respect all of my students as unique individuals, hold all of my students to high standards, and
help each student reach those standards.
What are the classroom rules?
The essence of good discipline is respect;
respect for authority and respect for others;
respect of self and respect for rules.
It is an attitude that begins at home,
is reinforced at school,
and is applied throughout life.

How do I make-up assignments?
It is your responsibility to ask for make-up work if you have been absent. You may get this
from me or from a classmate. I will follow the make-up work policy in the handbook. If you
are absent for part of the day the required HW must be turned in before you leave and you will
be responsible for the next day’s assignment.
How can I get extra help if I need it?
I am available during crew time, 7th hour, before and after school. Please see me during school
hours to set up an appointment.
How do I make-up a test due to an absence?
If you are absent on test day only, you will be expected to make up the test upon your return to
class. Please see me to schedule make-up tests.
What about retesting?
To qualify for retesting you first have to have competed ALL your homework on time AND
you must review and retest with me before the next unit test. If your original score was a C or
better you will be given ½ credit on anything above 70%. Any original test score falling below
a C can earn full points up to 70% but will be given half credit on anything above 70%. Please
note: If you choose to retest and do worse on the retest, you will lose the privilege of
retesting on any subsequent test.
What grading scale is used and how are grades figured?
I will use the grading scale out of the student handbook. Your semester grade is based on the
following: tests 60%, homework & quizzes 20%, and a cumulative semester exam (20%). Each
daily assignment is worth 100 pts. and, if completed on time, receives a stamp verifying
completion. Any assignment not completed on time can be completed by test day for half-credit.
At the end of the unit (on test day) I collect your notebooks (compilation of your daily work and
notes) and record your daily score. Quizzes are usually given twice during a unit and have the
value of a daily assignment. DON’T FOCUS ON JUST GETTING THE DAILY HW
DONE – MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE LESSONS AS DAILY GRADE IS
ONLY 20% OF YOUR TOTAL GRADE BUT TESTS CONSTITUTE 60%.
How may I or my parents reach you?

When can my parents meet you?
Fall conferences are a great time for parents to meet me. They are invited and welcome to be in
my classroom anytime. It’s best if I know I am having visitors. Just remember to follow the
school policy -- all visitors must sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor’s badge.
Parents: Please feel free to log on to the school website to check the progress of your student. I try to
update grades weekly (typically Friday afternoons). Ask your student to tell you what we did in class
and please never accept “nothing” as an acceptable answer!
