Hello, Spring! May is here and summer is peeking
around the corner. Everything is starting to bloom,
and we remember what it feels like to feel alive
again after being in a winter cocoon.
May is a month to remember our mothers or other
special women in our lives who gave maternal guidance when needed. Thank you ladies for bringing
life into this world and nurturing future generations.
May is also the month to remember our fallen soldiers who bravely fought for our freedom. Some
gave their lives to defend this country so that we
may live in peace. Please pay your respects for
those who perished so
you can live freely.
My wish is that you
make each day feel like
spring for as long as
you live -- full of promise, love and joy.

MEDICARE MINUTES
Renelle Betters
MMAP Counselor
Phone: (906) 863-2158
Medicare fraud can occur through no fault of your
own. Or, sometimes it can be targeted at a specific group. Being pro-active can save you from becoming a victim of a scam.
Whenever someone out of the blue calls you to
ask you for a service or an item and says “Don’t
worry, we can bill your Medicare for it”, take note
that could be a scam. Scams like this for knee
braces, back braces, scooters and the like sound
like a great thing at the time, but what they are
doing is fishing for your Medicare information. Depending on the circumstances, these people could
sign you up for items that you do not need nor are
approved by Medicare. If they are selling an item
that is approved, you may be subject to co-pays
that you did not plan for. So, do your research.
To ensure you get the right equipment you need
and that your forms are processed through Medicare, you should always make sure you use a supplier that is approved by Medicare. You can check
out the suppliers in your area by going to the
medicare.gov website and do a search for reputable suppliers.
The best thing to do is to NEVER give out your personal information over the phone from an unsolicited call. Do not feel guilty for hanging up on a
salesman who is pressuring you. Reputable businesses do not pressure you into a sale-they earn
your business. If possible, write the phone number
down and report it to the police. You can also call
your phone company and block that number if you
are being harassed. You are your best defense on
preventing Medicare fraud.
