lesson. Let’s review this so you can add this to what you know in French.
We had several greetings and farewells. Let’s review them in that section.

These words “bonjour” and “salut” are the ways we can greet people in
French.
Bonjour is a greeting we will consider to be formal. It is appropriate to use
with people whose name is preceded by a title: Mr., Mrs., Miss, Dr., etc.
Salut is a greeting we will consider to be informal or familiar. We will use it
with anyone whose first name we use.
As you go through the “How are you?” Activity, be sure to take note of the
vocabulary you are learning here.

In French, we have what is known as “formality”. This means that
sometimes we use a certain way of saying an expression and sometimes
that way is not appropriate because of the person we are talking to.
As you go through the “Farewells” Activity, be sure to take note of the

We have two forms to say many things – a “formal” and a “familiar” tone.
We will use the formal tone with anyone whose name is preceded by a title.
We will use the familiar tone with people in our own peer group or younger
than us.

These words in this activity are all words to say How are you? Or respond
to that question in both the familiar and formal tones. Fill in the table
