We’ve Streamlined Our Barium Products
in Order to Serve You Better
Bracco has made a long-term commitment to your imaging needs. As part of that, we have
streamlined our Bracco/E-Z-EM portfolio of barium products, discontinuing some of our
existing barium products or some of the barium product presentations. The streamlining of
our product offerings is the result of a very careful process, during which we have analyzed
potential redundancies and have ensured that specific barium products will continue to be
available for the different gastrointestinal segments and imaging modalities using barium.
In optimizing our barium portfolio, we are working with the FDA and with experts in the
field of abdominal radiology to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the radiology
community and continuity of patient care.
We have ensured that products recommended as a substitute for those being discontinued
provide comparable or superior results, often at the same price or lower. Our sales
representatives have gone through training on the changes and can help find a substitute
for the barium products you and your customers have relied on. A complete list of
discontinued products are itemized on the following pages. We have also included a
new complete Bracco Barium Product SKU list at the end of the document.

Double Contrast Upper GI
E-Z-HD™ is a high density, low
viscosity, barium sulfate powder for oral
administration. It is supplied in 340 g
bottles and yields 135 mL of 250% w/v
suspension, after reconstitution as
directed with 65 mL of water. Typical
adult dose is 65-135 mL of suspension.

With the current CT technology, the clinical need for such a contrast agent in CT is almost non-existent. A neutral contrast
agent (like VoLumen®) can be used as an alternative to Esopho-Cat® in those few patients who would benefit from distension
of the esophageal lumen at CT.

Contraindications: These products should not be used in patients with known gastric or intestinal perforation or hypersensitivity to barium sulfate products.
Warnings: Rarely, severe allergic reactions of anaphylactoid nature, have been reported following administration of barium sulfate contrast agents.
