Investment Portfolio Assignment 2017
You have been given 50,000$ in Karpontinis dollars to build your own investment portfolio with. You
may use notes, worksheets as well as internet sources to help you decide how you want to invest
your money.
The aim of this project is to familiarize yourself with the risks and benefits associated with investing
your savings. The project is to be completed in pairs or individually and is worth 25% of your term 3
grade.

For each type of investment chosen, you are to compose a 150-word report discussing the
advantages and disadvantages of placing your money into that type of savings as well as how your
selections will help you reach your savings goals. You must have a diversified portfolio based on your
risk profile, you must be invested in at least 2 non-stock options (Cash Holdings, Investment
Savings Accounts, GICs, Bonds, Mutual Funds, T-Bills, Term Deposits, Foreign Currency)
and 3 Stocks (Equity in companies).
Register for www.studentstocktrader.com. You can also download the app. Please use your real first
name and last name. The code to join is: 38630-0. The password is “mrkrules”. This website will not
use 100% accurate stock rates. But it is mostly accurate. You must use your real name(s)
On April 24th I will open the stock market and you can purchase any stocks you want. You will be
given 50,000$. Every time you make a transaction it will cost you 10$ with a 3% commission, you
will be forced to wait 30 minutes before buying and selling the same stock. You are allowed to trade
stocks at any point of the day. The simulation ends on May 24th at the end of the trading day.
For the $40,000 that must be included in the stock market, select a minimum of three companies
that are listed on the Stock Market. You will then research these companies and compose a 150-word
report on each company. The following questions may be used as a starting point.
