Serving in Honduras
This year we have
had several students go on
mission trips in our school,
and one of them was sophomore, Maggie Frock. She
went to Honduras with the
Women of Purpose team.
While there, she helped build
a house, sang with her mom
and praise team, and went to
a weekend conference for
English speaking missionaries.
She also had the time to go
and play with
some of the
children in a
small village
nearby in the
mountains.
She said, “It
was amazing to watch them
play and have so much fun
with so little.” Maggie said
that one of the little boys was
content playing with just half
of a motor cycle toy. On her
last day there, Maggie was
introduced to a little baby
named Carlos. When he was
found, he was in a garbage
bag in front of the church.
Fortunately, he now has foster parents and is doing very

well. When asked if she
would encourage people to
do mission trips, Maggie said,
“Yes, they help us see what
we have and to be grateful.”
Maggie also said, “We can
witness to the people and
show them God’s love”,
which shows the true purpose of why people go on
mission trips, and why you
can never be too young or old
to participate in one.

Mom of the Month
By Josh Stevens
There are many people who work behind the scenes at the
school that we should all learn to
appreciate more. Someone who
has probably gone unnoticed is
Mrs. Laura Watts. You may know
her as the lady who sometimes
works the computer during
lunch. The fact that she helps
with the lunch count is true, but
that’s definitely not all she can
do. She recently won Mom of
the Month and was featured on
WTAP.
has two young boys who attend Wood County Christian: William, who is in first grade, and Samuel,
who is in fifth grade. According to Mrs.
Watts, her greatest happiness comes
simply from being able to wake her boys
every morning and tuck them in every
night.
When asked about his mom’s honor,
Samuel’s reply was, “We’re so happy
that she won mom of the Month, and I
don’t see why she couldn’t – she’s like
one of the best moms you could ever
have!”
This is Mrs. Watts’s first
year working at the school. She
Fine Arts
Fine arts is a nationally recognized musical, art,
and academic competition that
students all over the world participate in every year. For many
years, the high school has participated in the West Virginia state
competition at Appalachian Bible
College. We have had many students place in art, musical, and
academic events and even sent
some students to Nationals
at Bob Jones University in
Greeneville, South Carolina.
This year we had one student participate in the academic part of the competition. Freshmen, Ryan Pickrell has been participating in
Fine Arts for two years. He
likes doing the academic
portion of Fine Arts because
it is an opportunity to show

your skills in a specific subject. He
plans on participating in Fine Arts
in the future. The high school
choir had a large vocal ensemble
and a small vocal ensemble compete. They received 2 superior
ratings which is the highest honor
excluding first, second, and third
place. Emily Blevins and Garrett
Napier are amongst the few participants that participated in the
middle school fine arts. They both
have been active in fine arts for
the last 3 to 4 years and have
loved every second of it. Emily
enjoys the great experience of it
and believes that she will always
do fine arts. Garrett enjoys fine
arts because he likes to learn new
things in duet-acting and he also
likes to miss school for a day. We
have many talented students at
WCCS and we hope you all
continue to improve and
exceed in your musical, academic, and drama departments.

Jasmine Riggs always has a lot of cookouts with her family
where they get to play corn hole and have intense volleyball games. She also gets to go jet skiing and boating with
her cousins. She is very excited for the warmer weather and
spring break.
Nathan Ward is looking forward to swimming and going

K-5 Adventures
Kindergarten isn’t just naps
and snack time. It’s a busy
place with a lot happening
learning simple shapes, subtraction, and LOTS of reading!
In the fall, Mrs. Jones and the
class got to have an adventure at Sweet Apple Farms,
which everyone enjoyed.

After learning about
England, the students had
a tea party, and they all
had a great time.
With so much learning
and fun going on, it’s no
wonder rest time is needed – WHEW! What a busy
group!
The first week of March
the class had fun reading
Dr. Seuss. They also got to
do an author study on
Laura Numeroff and will get
to write their own “If You
Give a ___ a _____ Book.”
The Great WCCS Book Fair
Our annual book fair recently took
place and was a great success. The excitement for the book fair has been growing
ever since the first announcement of the
fair. There is more at the book fair then
just books! There are books, posters,
pens, puppets, erasers, and much
more!!!! I asked many of the kids what
their favorite books to buy were and this
year it seemed all the Llego books were
the most popular.
The book fair is always used to
help us improve our library. Last year the
book fair funds were used to improve the
look of the library. Mrs. Kratzer was able
to replace the carpet, get new tables, and

new books. This year the library received
around 900 dollars and used the money
to pay off the rest of the carpet and to
get 20 new books for all ages for the library. The book fair is a great way to help
improve the school!

A great member of our student body has
finally been able to come back to school on a
more regular basis, Tucker Heslop. Tucker , who
had an intestine transplant shortly after birth, was
having problems with rejection, and the medications had injured his kidneys. This meant that
Tucker needed a kidney transplant using a donor
kidney from his aunt. Our school has supported
Tucker and his family throughout this trying time,
having a spaghetti dinner and silent action as well
as cards from students. All-in-all Tucker was in the
hospital in Pittsburgh for close to a year.
state tournament.” The team began their season by traveling to
Washington, Pennsylvania on
Tuesday, March 31 and playing a
game at Wild Things Park, where
the Wildcats suffered a loss. This
was followed up by a double
header with Licking County on
April 11th which the ‘Cats swept.
Thankfully, Tucker has been released and
is finally back with us on a more regular basis. We
are all glad to see him walking around our school campus once more and hope he
stay well.
(Note: Tucker was recently
back in Pittsburgh being
treated for an infection.
Please, pray with us for his
continued recovery.)

Servants in the Office
It takes many people to run a
school. Some people have to teach,
some have to clean, and some have to
make sure that the school is in shape and
fix anything that is broken. One of the
most important jobs though is being a
secretary. Our school has several secretaries that you probably see around the
school and even at sports games. These
lovely ladies are Joy Smith in the elementary office, Tracy Browning, and
Marie Miller in the high school office.
Some of the tasks that these ladies have
to do are answer the phone, dispense
the mail around the school, update records, sell scrip cards, record demerits
and absences, and watch the door.
Mrs. Joy Smith has been at the
school since 1997 and remarked that
over the years the school has grown in
size and has even added the new building. Since year one, she has had her kids
enrolled in the school and now has some
grandkids enrolled. Mrs. Marie Miller
started working at the school in 20072008. She commented that the school
has grown in size but also in the technology that it possesses which includes the

WCCS Band
The band at WCCS is open to elementary, middle school, and
high school students. This year, there are eight elementary
band students, 4 in middle school band, and 8 in high school
band. The high school band consists of clarinet, trumpet, percussion, and saxophone, and the middle school band includes
flute, saxophone, and percussion. A typical band class will
start by warming up. Then, there may be a video or recording
to listen to and analyze. After that, the band will practice playing their selected music pieces. The band also engages in discussion about instruments and music. So far this year, the
band has participated in two school programs. They played at
the Veteran’s Day program and the Christmas program. The

new automatic locking doors. Mrs. Miller
also has two sons currently attending the
school: sophomore, Max Miller, and 8th
grader, Mitch Miller. Mrs. Tracy Browning has been here since 2004. She remarked that the school has grown spiritually in regard with the students. It has
also grown technology wise with the new
computers and laptops that have been
donated to the school. Mrs. Browning
also has two daughters in this school:
junior, Stacy Browning, and freshman,
Emily Browning.

the school. Without them most programs and minor things that we don’t
even think about wouldn’t get done. In
fact, they all enjoy working with the families and seeing the students grow without the years. The month of March was

band also plans to play during chapel on Wednesday before
the end of the year, and also will host a spring concert. The
band members performing at Fine Arts this year are all middle
school students. Sam Blauser will perform a percussion solo
entitled “Poppycock.” Kristin Hauser, who plays the flute, will
perform “Theme From Swan Lake” as a solo, and Madeline
Kuhl will perform a saxophone solo called “Ave Maria.” There
are no definite dates set for any upcoming concerts or band
events yet, but the spring concert will be coming up soon. Any
student who has an aptitude for playing a musical instrument
and has an interest in joining the band is welcome to talk to
Mr. Dubbs at any time.
