CASE IH 1200 SERIES ASM PLANTERS
THE INDUSTRY’S MOST ACCURATE, PRODUCTIVE AND RELIABLE PLANTING SYSTEMS
Rooted in the Case IH heritage of legendary agricultural
equipment leadership, Case IH 1200 Series ASM Planters
have earned a solid reputation as accurate, efficient and
well-designed toolbars with unequaled performance
capabilities. Many growers are relying on these rugged
planters to make their farming operations more effective,
more productive, more cost-efficient and, above all,
more profitable.
THE SUPERIOR LEVEL OF PRECISION YOU
NEED FOR HEALTHIER, STRONGER,
HIGHER-YIELDING STANDS.
Every Case IH 1200 Series ASM Planter is built around
two precision-oriented core components – the Case IH
Advanced Seed Meter (ASM) and Early Riser ® row unit –
which work together to ensure consistent seed spacing,
superior depth control and excellent seed-to-soil contact
for early, even emergence and higher yield potential.
THE HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY YOU WANT,
WITHOUT ANY AGRONOMIC COMPROMISES.
Typically, if you strive for higher productivity from faster
planter operating speeds, you’re forced to sacrifice
seed-spacing accuracy and settle for potentially lower
yields. Case IH 1200 Series ASM Planters change all
of that by giving you the best of both worlds – greater
accuracy and greater productivity. If soil conditions allow
faster planting speeds, metering speed is not a limiting
factor with a 1200 Series planter. The ASM will continue
to deliver accurate in-row seed spacing for uniform plant
populations. This means you can cover more of your
acres within the prime planting window for maximum
yield and profit potential.
A ROBUST DESIGN FOR LONG-LASTING
RELIABILITY.
You can count on any type of Case IH equipment to be
built for exceptional durability and reliable operation –
and Case IH 1200 Series ASM Planters are no exception.
Heavy-duty mainframes and rugged, long-wearing row
units hold up to years of demanding operation, even in
the toughest, No-till conditions. And, truly, no detail is
overlooked with regard to how these planters are built.
Progressive engineering, use of only the highest-quality
materials, even attention to the smallest details – such as
higher-caliber hardware – all add up to exceptionally
strong and rugged planters. Yet, even with the largest
configurations, balanced weight distribution ensures
excellent stability, flotation and maneuverability.
PERFECT FOR YOUR ROW-CROP APPLICATIONS.
Case IH 1200 Series ASM Planters are offered in a
wide range of mounted, stackerbar, trailing and pivoting
configurations, with provisions for liquid or dry fertilizer
and granular chemical applications (depending on the
model), and an array of row unit attachments and
options. Read this brochure to learn more about Case IH
exclusives – including the Case IH ASM, Early Riser row
unit, Bulk-fill System and Advanced Farming Systems –

VERSATILE AND ACCURATE SEED SINGULATION
The Case IH Advanced Seed Meter (ASM) elevates
planting to a higher level with its distinctive design and
unequaled advantages. This revolutionary vacuum meter
clearly outperforms competitive offerings, giving you the
ability to achieve greater profit potential.
CROP VERSATILITY. The ASM accurately meters all
varieties of corn and soybeans as well as most types of
sugar beets, peanuts, cotton, edible beans, sorghum and
sunflowers. No other seed meter offers so much versatility!
METERING ACCURACY. The ASM singulates seed
with unequaled accuracy for more effective population
control. This is due to three exclusive features:
1 The ASM uses the largest diameter field corn
disk in the industry, and therefore has more seed
cells than any other disk (48 vs. 30 holes or 12 fingers).
The large number of cells allows the seed disk to turn
more slowly (as much as four times more slowly), even
at higher field speeds, for slower seed release and,
therefore, better accuracy.
2 The ASM field corn disk is flat, with no individual
seed pockets that can tumble seed. The seed is
simply held to the flat side of the disk by a high vacuum.
(With pocket-style disks, research has shown that seed
must first tumble out of the pocket and then fall down
the tube. Each seed tumbles out differently than the
next, leading to spacing inaccuracies. With the ASM
seed disk, seed only travels in one direction... straight
down the seed tube and into the seed furrow for more
accurate placement.)
3 Skips and doubles are virtually eliminated thanks to
the patented three-spool seed singulation.
4
CASE IH ADVANCED SEED METER
...COMBINED WITH FASTER PLANTING CAPABILITY
PLANTING SIMPLICITY. Changing seed hybrids is a whole lot easier
with the ASM, compared to other meters. That’s because the ASM does not
require bothersome seed disk changes or tedious vacuum
tweaks. For example, due to the large diameter, when you are planting field
corn, one seed disk and one vacuum setting are recommended for all field
corn sizes and shapes [33 lbs. (15 kg) to 66 lbs. (30 kg) /80,000 seed bag
of corn]. There’s no need to check the operator’s manual and make changes
if your seed company gives you an alternate seed size or grade; the meter
settings remain the same year after year.
Changing seed types or crops is easy with the ASM.
A clean-out door on the backside can be easily
reached from the left side of each row unit.
The innovative ASM design also offers another timesaving advantage
during planting: Whenever you need to change the seed type or crop,
a convenient clean-out door makes the process quick and easy.
Just open the door and let any remaining seed flow into a bucket.
MAINTENANCE SIMPLICITY. The ASM is considerably less complex
than the finger meters you’ll find on other planters. The ASM requires no
calibration while competitive finger meters require yearly inspection at a
substantial expense. Featuring a streamlined design with far fewer parts,
the ASM requires less upkeep – which translates into more uptime.
The ASM performs very well when metering treated seeds which
can sometimes pose serious problems for other meters. Additional graphite
may be required for accurately metering seeds that have a high rate of
insecticide treatment.
HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY. Cover more acres while still maintaining
precision placement. The ASM, because of its unique design, is capable of
accurately metering seeds at faster planter operating speeds compared to
competitive meters. Due to this advantage, many growers are able to increase
their productivity in the field by increasing their operating speed.*
For best performance,
use CNH graphite.
ASM seed disks rotate more slowly than competitive
disks, thus minimizing spacing inaccuracies.
The Case IH seed tube also contributes to greater
accuracy at higher speeds. It is composed of a special
polymer compound that reduces seed ricochet.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: Planting speed must always be determined according to field conditions. If the row units are not
maintaining a constant depth, the operator should slow down. If the row units are not exhibiting “row unit hop” and a
constant planting depth is being maintained, planting speeds are appropriate for existing conditions.
ASM uses a patented system with three spools
to singulate on each side of the seed.

PROVEN EFFECTIVE IN THE FIELD
“With no change in settings from one row
to the next, and with different seed sizes and
weights in each box, planting accuracy was
there!... our hats are off to everyone at Case IH
involved in designing this phenomenal planter.”
- Kim Robertson, LG Seeds
“In comparing the finger pickup meter to the
Case IH, the Case IH shows improvement
in accuracy of seed drop regardless
of seed size, as planting speeds increase
to 5.5 mph and above.”
- Tony Beck, Beck’s Hybrids
“A simple metering system is required that
makes planting a number of hybrids and
seed sizes very easy. All sizes and
shapes of corn seed we tested from
30 to 70 pound per 80,000 kernels could be
accurately dropped with one disk and
one vacuum setting. Congratulations to
Case IH for a great new planter!”

PROVEN EFFECTIVE IN AN INDEPENDENT STUDY:
Pioneer Hi-Bred investigated the seed size plantability of
the Case IH Advanced Seed Meter. Ten seed sizes were
evaluated, using over 200 different corn hybrids. All of
the test runs were accurate to 99.8% of the 1,000 seed
target, regardless of seed size.
CASE IH ADVANCED SEED METER
FREEDOM FROM SEED SIZE RESTRICTIONS
Choose field corn hybrids based on genetic potential,
seed quality and price – not seed size, which will
vary by hybrid, female parent tendencies, and growing
conditions. Pocket-style seed disks and finger pickup
meters are sensitive to those variances and are limited
in their adaptability.
In comparison, ASM field corn disks are flat (have no
pockets) to accommodate different seed sizes.
For example, when you are planting corn with the ASM,
you can select the appropriate corn hybrid for each field
without worrying about seed size availability. In fact,
just one corn disk handles everything from very small to
extra large.
The Case IH ASM lets you take advantage of seed sizes
that, while genetically equivalent, other planters can’t
handle well. Deliver superior agronomic seed placement with
discounted seed sizes.
Example:
Farm:
1,500 Acres of Corn
Population:
30,000 Seeds/Acre
Seeds Per Bag:
80,000
Acres Planted Per Bag:
2.7 (560 Bags for 1,500 Acres Corn)
Typical seed discount for plateless seed sizes: $10 per bag
$10/bag savings x 560 bags/yr = $5,600 annual savings!

OPTIMIZED SEED BED CONDITIONS
The Case IH Early Riser row unit optimizes seed bed
conditions to allow earlier, more uniform
emergence and, therefore, achieves higher
yield potential.
unit delivers an ideal combination of furrow formation
and furrow closing for ideal seed-to-soil contact.
This ensures faster, more consistent germination...
and earlier, more uniform emergence.
The difference between the Early Riser and other row
units is evident in the design: distinctive features offer
significant and unrivaled agronomic advantages.
In fact, Case IH agronomists have documented that the
Early Riser row unit provides emergence that is often
two to three days earlier than that of competitive
models. This jumpstart at the beginning of the growing
season can have a profound impact on your season-end
profit potential!
SUPERIOR SEED-TO-SOIL CONTACT. In a
few simple steps (pictured below), the Early Riser row
UNIFORM DEPTH CONTROL ensures uniform
emergence. The Early Riser row unit is equipped with
equalizing gauge wheels that “walk” over residue and
clods to maintain uniform placement depth.
The secret to their superb performance is the way in
which they are driven: These wheels are pulled – not
pushed like gauge wheels on other planters – thereby
making the row unit more stable. Instead of being
pushed into obstacles, it easily rides up and over them.
This is especially true at faster speeds or in adverse
field conditions.
SIX STEPS TO BETTER SEED BED CONDITIONS
Narrow 10.5-degree offset double
disk openers slice through residue
and penetrate hard soils to create
a narrow seed furrow with
minimal sidewall compaction.
(Competitors use a wider
14-degree nose-to-nose design
that causes more sidewall
compaction, which can delay
seed emergence.)
8
“Walking beam” gauge wheels
maintain uniform seeding depth
and placement, even in fields with
heavy residue, rocks and clods.
Gauge wheels are also designed
with a soil retention groove to
capture moist soil from the furrow,
which is eventually returned to
the furrow by the closing system.
The furrow firming point defines
the sides and bottom of the
seed furrow for a calibrated
and accurate seed depth. This
prevents loose soil from creating
a false bottom, which can lead
to inaccurate seed depth.
A V-shaped seed tube centers the
seed into perfect position at the
bottom of the furrow. The tube
is made of a special material
that reduces ricochet – and
prevents inaccurate seed
placement.
Inverted closing disks fill the
furrow from both sides. In doing
so, they move the loose, moist
soil (that was captured by gauge
wheel soil retention grooves)
closest to the seed in the bottom
of the seed furrow.
A wide press wheel gently firms
soil over the furrow for optimal
seed-to-soil contact, leaving a
crust-breaking chevron pattern
that speeds emergence.
CASE IH EARLY RISER ROW UNIT
IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY
Exclusive zero-indexed depth control saves
time. By “zeroing out ” the depth control on the Early
Riser row unit, you can be sure that all rows will be set
accurately and consistently. This means you can save
up to 70 percent of the normal adjustment time that
is needed for other planters. No other row unit offers
this feature!
The Early Riser row unit works in
tandem with the Advanced Seed
Meter to help you make the most
of the short planting season.
Minimized bouncing allows faster
operation. The Early Riser row unit’s
equalizing gauge wheels not only ensure even
emergence, they also allow faster operation –
even in adverse field conditions. By avoiding
the sluggish bouncing motion that is typical
of traditional push-style row units, you can
move faster and cover more acres.
The depth control adjustment handle makes setting
planting depth an easy one-hand operation.
9
CASE IH EARLY RISER ROW UNIT
The Early Riser row unit performs in a variety of soils
and conditions to match your farming practice whether
it be conventional tillage, Mulch-till or No-till.
Patented Case IH equalizing gauge wheels hold the
row-unit weight away from the furrow to eliminate
sidewall compaction. The soil retention grooves also
allow moist soil to be captured alongside the top of
the seed trench so the disk closing system can then
return it on top of the seed.
Proven Early Riser press wheels provide uniform soil
distribution over the seed bed area. (Press wheels
on competitive row units typically produce a more
concentrated, emergence-inhibiting soil surface.)
ASM PLANTERS
Solidly built to withstand tough, No-till conditions,
the Early Riser row unit resists side draft and other
twisting forces that can slow down and wear
10 out other row units.

SIMPLER, FASTER SEED FILLING
All 1200 Series ASM Pivot-transport Planters can be
equipped with the Case IH Bulk-fill System for
timesaving convenience. Featuring two large, stationarymounted, bulk-capacity seed hoppers, this system boosts
in-the-field productivity by expediting seed handling and
requiring fewer stops for refills.
UNIQUE OPERATION. The Case IH Bulk-fill System
uses gentle airflow to deliver seed for accurate metering
by the Case IH Advanced Seed Meter (ASM). At the
heart of the system, a rugged fan provides a constant
airflow rate for reliable seed distribution to individual row
units. The airflow is proportionately blended with the
seed in the Bulk-fill inductor box to fluidize the
air/seed mixture. Once the mixture is ready for delivery
to the row unit, the fan gently transports the seed to
a mini-hopper located just above the ASM. This minihopper maintains a constant seed level available for
metering, and it is replenished on demand.
This revolutionary yet simple airflow design ensures a
uniform seed volume throughout all the row units across
the entire planter. For the ultimate in planting productivity
for seed corn production, use the on-row hoppers for
male rows and put female varieties in the Bulk-fill System.
competitive designs. Positioned approximately 3 ft.
(.9 m) off the ground, the platform’s ultra-low design
keeps transport height to a minimum and allows excellent
operator visibility to the rear of the planter. The low
profile deck height easily allows the operator to back
a pickup up to the filling deck. Competitive designs
require the operator to climb as many as six steps to
reach the filling deck. During planter operation, a
handy hopper-level sensor indicates when the Bulk-fill
hoppers should be refilled.
RUGGED, ROTATING DESIGN. The Case IH
Bulk-fill hoppers are composed of a highly durable,
weather-resistant poly material for long life and sturdy
seed containment. Seed is protected by tight-fitting
hopper lids, which are positively sealed with a foam
gasket to eliminate air escape or water penetration.
For transporting ease, the Bulk-fill hoppers rotate in
conjunction with the planter’s pivoting frame.
CROPPING VERSATILITY. The Case IH Bulk-fill
System is approved for field corn, popcorn, soybeans,
milo/sorghum and sunflowers.

The 12- and 16-row Pivot-transport planters can
come equipped with two 30-bushel (1,057 L) hoppers
(pictured at left). Split-row 12/23 and 16/31 planters
and 24/20 planters accommodate two larger,
40-bushel (1,410 L) hoppers (pictured above).
Case IH Bulk-fill hopper lids are hinged for greater
convenience. Unlike lids you’ll find on some other
bulk-fill systems, they do not have to be removed,
set down on the platform and then reattached
after refilling.
A handy step and ergonomically positioned
handles and grab rails are designed for
operator ease and comfort.
The Case IH Bulk-fill System is designed for
easier filling, even when you are using individual
seed bags. Notice how the platform is at the
ideal height for a pickup bed.

965 or 1,016 mm) row spacing – even add granular
chemical or row-tillage attachments – for the ultimate in
cropping versatility.
The Advanced Seed Meter transmission offers up
to 120 different population settings which allow
the operator to achieve pin-point accuracies
competitors do not offer. Setting changes can be
made easily, without tools.
Even tough, No-till conditions are no problem
for the 8-row Rigid Mounted planter. In fact,
every 1200 Series planter has proven to excel
in No-till fields.

8- AND 12-ROW MOUNTED STACKERBAR PLANTERS
IN-THE-FIELD PRODUCTIVITY, STACK-AND-GO PORTABILITY
TIMESAVING STACKING OPERATION. The planting
season is short and the pressure is on. If you want to make
the most of your time, then this is the way to do it: by
using a Case IH 1200 Series Mounted Stackerbar
Planter. The inventive stack-and-fold design keeps
hoppers upright so you don’t have to empty wing
hoppers every time you need to move to another field.
SAME GREAT PRECISION AND PRODUCTIVITY.
Think of the stacking feature as simply an added bonus
on top of all of the other benefits you get from the 1200
Series design: accurate and consistent seed singulation,
optimized seed bed conditions, and the ability to plant at
faster operating speeds. With these planters you can
move faster between fields and also move faster within
each field.
VARIED CONFIGURATIONS. Mounted Stackerbar
models are available in 8-row wide, 12-row narrow and
12-row wide configurations. Any of these would be ideal
for a variety of farms, large or small, with No-till or
conventional seed beds. Optional lift-assist wheels can
be added for extra stability and lift-assist capacity.
The stacking operation is easy to put in motion.
Simply pull a single hydraulic lever and let the
wings stack over-center – a process that is
completed in just a few minutes.
The optional gull wing package helps hold wings
off the ground while the center section lowers to
the ground first. This prevents wing droop and
allows all wing-row units to reach the ground
simultaneously. Available for the 12-row narrow
Stackerbar model only.
For extra flotation in light soils, add the optional
dual gauge wheels. Available for wide row-spacing
models only. Not recommended for rocky fields.

6- AND 8-ROW RIGID TRAILING PLANTERS
MAXIMUM MANEUVERABILITY IN SMALLER FIELDS
COMPACT CONFIGURATIONS. If your acreage is
divided into tight or terraced fields, a scaled-down 6or 8-row Rigid Trailing 1200 Series ASM Planter is
a smart choice. Each model combines a compact
configuration with narrow, 30 in. (762 mm) row spacing
that is perfectly suited for smaller fields. The manageable
size pairs nicely with a smaller, more affordable 75-85
PTO hp (56-63 kW) tractor, and is advantageous when
completing frequent turns at the ends of rows.
BIG-PLANTER PRODUCTIVITY. Featuring the
exclusive Case IH Advanced Seed Meter and Early Riser
row units, these models offer the higher productivity of a
larger planter – but at a much lower investment.
CROPPING VERSATILITY. Many types of crops can
be planted with these exceptionally versatile planters.
Either model works equally well for single-crop growers,
corn-and-soybean specialists or multiple-crop producers.
For added versatility, either planter can be equipped
with your choice of liquid or dry fertilizer, insecticide,
a myriad of row attachment options and an optional
variable-rate hydraulic drive.
The rigid trailing toolbar is a rugged 7 x 7 in.
(178 x 178 mm) mainframe that holds up to
rigorous planting and transporting year after year.
ROBUST DESIGN. These 6- and 8-row Rigid Trailing
models, like all other 1200 Series ASM planters, are
expertly engineered and solidly built for lasting durability
and reliable performance.
The folding tongue is available on the Rigid
Trailing models, folds as shown to simplify storage.
A 6- or 8-row Rigid Trailing 1200 Series ASM
Planter is the perfect size for almost any field.
Equipped with field-proven Early Riser row units,
this planter makes the most of every seed
whether you’re planting in No-till or
conventional conditions.
21
WIDE-WORKING PRODUCTIVITY WITH THE ADDED ADVANTAGE OF NARROW TRANSPORT
UNCOMMON, ON-COMMAND PIVOTING. These
ingenious planters redefine the concept of transporting
ease. Unlike other planters you’ve seen before, they
quickly and cleverly pivot to a narrow transport width –
just 12 ft. 7 in. (3.8 m) with the Case IH Bulk-fill System,
or 12 ft. 3 in. (3.7 m) with standard on-row hoppers.
No out-of-cab operations are needed. You simply press a
touchscreen button to begin the lift-and-pivot sequence.
Then, with another single command, the planter reopens
and lowers to its ready-to-plant position. There’s truly no
better, faster way to travel to, from and between your
fields during the critical prime planting period. And the
more time you save during transport, the more time you
can spend placing seed in the ground. That’s a businesswise benefit that every farmer can appreciate.
UNEQUALED METERING AND SEED BED
CONDITIONING. With Case IH 12- and 16-row
Pivot-transport Planters, you can have greater transporting
convenience without compromising yield potential. Like
all other 1200 Series models, these planters are
equipped with the Case IH Advanced Seed Meter (ASM)
and Early Riser row unit, and operate well throughout the
tillage spectrum, from conventional to No-till. The ASM
delivers precise seed singulation for any size or shape of
seed, while each row unit optimizes seed bed conditions
for earlier, more even emergence.
VARIABLE-RATE CONTROL. The Case IH AFS
Universal Display Plus (see page 12) is designed
specifically for achieving precision management
with these wide-working 12- and 16-row models.
With this multi-functional system, you can change rates
on the go right from the cab with just a touch of a button.
Just enter the desired population and it automatically
adjusts the seeding rate.
RUGGED, RELIABLE MAINFRAME. Solidly built for
years of dependable use, these pivoting planters are a
sound investment. The sturdy 7 x 7 in. (178 x 178 mm)
mainframe easily shoulders the heavy-duty Early Riser
row units.
LIGHTWEIGHT FOOTPRINT. High-flotation tires
create a lightweight, 38 psi (2.7 kgf/cm2) footprint on the
16-row model. Four 16.5L x 16.1 ribbed implement tires
follow in the tractor’s tracks to help minimize compaction
and control field traffic.
CLOSE-COUPLED CONVENIENCE. With other
rotating toolbar designs, a long, nonretractable tongue
positions the planter far away from the tractor cab.
On these Case IH pivoting models, the tongue retracts to
keep the planter close to the tractor for a better view and
more control – and even allows you to perform hairpin
turns. [While in the planting position, the 16-row planter
measures just 18 ft. 5 in. (5.6 m) from the hitch to
the carrying wheels. And the 12-row measures only
15 ft. (4.6 m).] The close-coupled feature is also
convenient when you’re pulling your planter along
narrow country roads and across bridges.

24
12/23 AND 16/31 SPLIT-ROW PIVOT-TRANSPORT PLANTERS
THE SUPERLATIVE SPLIT-ROW PLANTERS FOR CORN-AND-SOYBEAN GROWERS
TWO-PLANTERS-IN-ONE EFFICIENCY. These Case IH
1200 Series ASM Split-row Planters are perfect for largeacreage corn and soybean farmers who are looking to
boost productivity. The 12/23 and 16/31 configurations
allow corn to be planted in twelve or sixteen 30 in. (762
mm) rows and allow soybeans to be planted in twenty-three
or thirty-one 15 in. (381 mm) rows. Each planter can be
converted from corn to soybeans, or vice versa, with only a
few adjustments that take only a short time to complete.
UNBEATEN ACCURACY. The Case IH 12/23 and
16/31 models are simply the most advanced, most
accurate split-row planters on the market. The slowturning Case IH Advanced Seed Meter (ASM) design
uses the largest diameter seed corn disk – 11.8 in. (300
mm) – with the most holes in the industry (48). The large
number of holes allows the seed disk to turn more slowly,
even at higher planter operating speeds (depending on
field conditions), for more controlled seed release and
better accuracy. In comparison, a 12-finger meter design
must turn four times faster than the ASM to maintain
the same population. With the ASM, you can have the
capability of covering more acres while still achieving a
picket-fence-type stand.
PIVOTING SIMPLICITY. Moving your 1200 Series
ASM Split-row Planter to and from the field is an easy
process, for it uses the same pivoting toolbar design as
the 12- and 16-row planters (see page 23). With the
touch of a button, the planter will go from field position
to a narrow transport position measuring just 12 ft. 7 in.
(3.8 m) wide when mounted with Case IH Bulk-fill System
hoppers.
No other split-row planter on the market today
offers more complete access to EVERY row unit
than the Case IH 1200 Series ASM 12/23 and
16/31 Pivot-transport Planters.*
LESS FILLING, GREAT HASTE. The Case IH Bulk-fill
System takes productivity a step further. Twin 40-bushel
(1,410 L) hoppers provide a constant flow of seed to each
row unit. This means you can stay in the field longer and
get more done with fewer, shorter stops to refill the planter.
With the toolbar raised and cylinder stops
installed*, each Early Riser row unit is clearly
accessible for easy maintenance.
* Install transport cylinder stops before working
under the machine.
With split-row planter configurations, the Early Riser
row units are staggered 10 in. (254 mm) back to
provide outstanding trash flow capabilities. Heavy
residue, rocks and clods are not a concern, thanks
to each row unit’s “walking beam” gauge
wheels, that maintain uniform seeding
depth and placement.

26
24/20 NARROW-ROW PIVOT-TRANSPORT PLANTER
PRACTICAL, NARROW-ROW SPACING FOR HIGHER YIELD POTENTIAL
NARROWER ROWS – NOW A REALITY. The
advantages of narrow row spacing – including larger
populations, more efficient light utilization, better weed
control, decreased herbicide costs and potentially higher
yields – have been explored and discussed for years.
Now those advantages are actually achievable with this
definitive 20 in. (508 mm) row planter. The Case IH
1200 Series ASM 24/20 configuration makes narrower
row spacing not only possible, but also practical, by
planting seed with unsurpassed precision. Featuring the
Advanced Seed Meter (ASM) and 24 Early Riser row
units, this planter ensures superior control of population,
seed depth, in-row spacing and seed-to-soil contact.
THE BEST MEANS FOR ACHIEVING MORE
PLANTS PER ACRE. Simply adding more plants into
30 in. (762 mm) rows is not always a viable method for
increasing population. Your closer in-row spacing may
cause excessive crowding, which can have a negative
impact on yields. Switching to 20 in. (508 mm) row
spacing allows more in-row spacing between plants,
thereby reducing plant-to-plant competition.
FASTER CANOPY FOR IMPROVED LIGHT
UTILIZATION. Agronomists have proven that having
the ground fully shaded by the longest day of the year
(June 21) makes for the most efficient use of sunlight
by the plants. Twenty-inch (508 mm) rows planted with
the Case IH 1200 Series ASM 24/20 Planter are more
likely to shade earlier than 30 in. (762 mm) rows.
LESS ROOM FOR WEEDS, LESS MONEY SPENT
ON WEED CONTROL. The earlier canopy produced
by 20 in. (508 mm) row crops reduces weed pressure,
which helps new hybrids achieve their highest yield
potential. Weeds shaded out by more aggressive stands
can also result in a less costly herbicide program.
And the earlier, denser shade cover even helps
conserve moisture.
On the Case IH 1200 Series ASM 24/20 Planter,
two dozen Early Riser row units are spaced 20 in.
(508 mm) apart. The Case IH Bulk-fill System is a
key standard feature for easier, faster seed filling.
GREATER PROFIT POTENTIAL. By planting your
crops with the Case IH 1200 Series ASM 24/20 Planter,
you may gain a potential yield advantage of up to eight
percent compared to yields produced by conventional
wide-row spacing.
A PLAN FOR SUCCESS. In preparation for planting
20 in. (508 mm) rows, you can equip your tractor with
tall radial tires that have a long, narrow footprint.
The Case IH AFS AccuGuide™ Autoguidance System
(see page 11) gives you the ability to concentrate on
the implement behind you, rather than concentrating on
driving in straight rows. This greatly reduces the effort
needed to plant, cultivate and spray 20 in. (508 mm) rows.
The unique pivoting toolbar is conveniently
operated with a simple touchscreen command
from inside the tractor cab.
Four flotation tires, which are the largest in the
industry, (standard on all pivot-transport planters)
evenly distribute the weight of the heavy-duty
mainframe, creating a lighter overall footprint
and ensuring good operational stability in wet
field conditions.
27
LIQUID FERTILIZER
Promote faster, earlier seed growth by applying liquid starter fertilizer during
planting. Large-capacity polyethylene tanks hold 70 to 300 gal. (265 to 1136 L) each and
can be mounted on the toolbar or your tractor, depending on the planter configuration.
A Bulk-fill System allows easy single-point filling. Planter mounted liquid fertilizer
is available on 6- and 8-row trailing as well as 12- and 16-row Pivot-transport
configurations only.
No-till Single-disk Opener with Knife
Squeeze Pump
Some planter models can be equipped with a Case IH squeeze pump meter or a highoutput diaphragm pump for greater reliability and lower maintenance. The liquid squeeze
pump capacity ranges from 3.9 to 41.2 gal. (14.8 to 156 L) per acre on 30 in. (762 mm)
row spacing. The diaphragm pump capacity ranges from 5 to 25 gal. (19 to 95 L) per
acre, with six different orifice sizes available to match your gallons-per-acre requirement
and planting speed.
Three different types of openers are available to suit different farming practices
and field conditions:
– The double-disk opener works well in conventional- and Mulch-till fields.
– The single-disk No-till opener with fertilizer knife features a durable,
17 in. (432 mm) rippled coulter and parallel linkage for Mulch-till and No-till
field conditions.
No-till Single-disk Opener with Liquid Injection
Diaphragm Pump
– The single-disk opener with liquid injection (pivot planters only) allows you to
place fertilizer right where you need it. This opener’s flex-mounted injection nozzle
and 25-wave coulter blade work well with most soil management practices and soil
types. Parallel linkage ensures stability for optimum placement.
Tractor mounted fertilizer tank and plumbing kits are also available.

FERTILIZER AND CHEMICAL ATTACHMENTS AND OPTIONS
DRY FERTILIZER
Boost the potential of every plant with dry fertilizer application. Dry fertilizer
hoppers hold from 600 to 900 lbs. (272 to 408 kg) each, depending on the planter
configuration. Planter mounted dry fertilizer is available on 6- and 8-row trailing
configurations only.
Choose from 45 different application rates and low-, high- or extra high-rate augers.
Perfect for conventional- and Mulch-till conditions, the double-disk opener places your
exact rate in the right place. For No-till fields, opt for the single-disk opener with
17 in. (432 mm) rippled coulter. A knife scraper can be added to keep openers clean.
And optional gauge wheels allow for placement 3 or 4 in. (76 or 102 mm) deep.

GRANULAR CHEMICAL APPLICATIONS
Control weeds and pests right from the start by applying granular treatments.
Granular chemical hoppers hold 70 lbs. (32 kg) of either herbicide or insecticide, or
35 lbs. (16 kg) of each when used with a conversion divider. Large dials are easy to set
and adjust to your desired rates. Several application attachments are available, based
on your preferences. (Granular chemical is available on all configurations.)
For insecticide application, a front or rear insecticide spreader puts chemical in a
narrow band either before the opener or after the press wheel. An in-furrow hose places
insecticide in the seed trench. With these various attachments you have the ability to
surface apply, apply in-furrow or T-band your insecticide. And you may choose to add
a closed handling lid-fill system that reduces operator exposure.
For herbicide application, a rear-mounted herbicide spreader handles distribution
over the closed furrow. Add a herbicide windshield when banding on windy days. Follow
application with a spring-tooth incorporator to help mix soil and chemicals while leveling
and loosening soil to lessen crusting or erosion. For transport, simply flip up the springtooth incorporator bracket assembly.
29
To prevent residue-wrap and damage from dirt clods, guard attachments
are available. The drive-wheel chain guard protects critical components
from residue and clods in Mulch- and No-till fields.
Disk furrowers move dry soil and residue to the side for smoother opener operation. Choose regular or notched disks depending on your conditions.
Regular disks are sized 9.25 or 12 in. (234 or 304 mm) in diameter and are set nose to nose. For heavier residue conditions in Mulch-till and No-till
fields, opt for notched 12 in. (304 mm) disks in a staggered position. Adjust depth and blade angle to suit your situation.
With the bar rock guard, you can keep rocks from wedging between the
drive wheel and gauge wheel. Used in combination with a wheel cover,
this also prevents rocks and dirt clods from damaging the tire valve stem.
Move residue and achieve maximum soil penetration in heavy
No-till conditions with the combination residue manager coulter.
30 Available on pivot-transport configurations only.
Sweep away residue from the path of Early Riser openers with the dual
residue manager. Each 13 in. (330 mm) steel wheel has 16 fingers to
clear stalks and trash out of the way. Adjust working depth shallow
enough for minimal soil disruption.
The single residue manager moves residue to one side of the Early Riser
row unit gauge wheel, not combining residue from two row units as with
the dual residue manager. Single wheel managers are recommended for
split-row and 20 in. (508 mm) configurations.
ROW UNIT ATTACHMENTS AND OPTIONS
Add a heavy-duty downpressure spring (available through Parts) to the
dual closing disks for extra force to cover the seed trench in hard soils.
Put this heavy-duty unit-mounted 8-wave coulter ahead of the openers
for additional tillage in tough No-till conditions with hard soils and
heavy residue. An independent depth adjustment lets you control the
level of tillage you desire. A 25-wave rippled coulter is also available.
Available through Parts, an optional rotary scraper prevents
excess dirt buildup, which is especially useful in wet or sticky soils.
A heavy-duty flat scraper comes standard.
No-till residue managers are for heavy, No-till residue situations
and are recommended for pivot-transport configurations only.
Let heavy-duty row markers make a clear sight line to follow in all
field conditions. Depending on your planter, you’ll get automatic
alternation or manual electric selector control. All markers have safety
locks for transport.
This “V-shaped” furrowing wing removes the top layer of soil or
clods from beds so seed is placed into moist soil. Wings are not
recommended for heavy-residue conditions or in rocky or sticky soils.
