Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a medical treatment for spot fat reduction and cellulite treatment. After being
used in France for over 50 years, doctors in the United States are now providing this procedure,
which may help you get rid of fat and cellulite without undergoing surgery.
This new treatment is called Mesotherapy, a technique where small amounts of medication, vitamins and supplements are injected into the fat and connective tissue which makes up the middle
layer of skin called the mesoderm.
Mesotherapy may be an alternative to liposuction for some patients since it is a non-surgical
technique for spot weight reduction, sagging chins and eyelids, and for eliminating cellulite from
heavy thighs, abdomen, hips and buttocks. Mesotherapy is not considered a weight loss procedure. Approximately 20% of patients claimed immediate results for losing inches and some
weight, for others mesotherapy results are slower but still very noticeable. Patients still have to
watch their diets and exercise regularly to lose the fat and to keep it off.
Meso therapy is generally considered a safe procedure and requires no anesthesia. The injections cause slight discomfort, similar to the pain experienced from waxing. Larger areas need six
to eight treatments.
This treatment does not work on about 5% of patients. You can usually tell by the 4th session if
shots are effective.

Pre-Treatment Instructions
Avoid for 1 week prior to injections:
1. Anti-inflammatory (Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Celebrex)
2. Aspirin
3. Vitamin E
4. Gingko Biloba two days prior
Pre-treat with an anti-viral if any history of cold sores, genital herpes, or shingles. (Call for prescription) Arnica oil or ointment can be used to decrease bruising.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Immediately following the procedure, cold pack or ice should be applied to the area and may be
applied as needed for redness or swelling for the first 48 hours. If possible the area should be
wrapped with compression dressings after completion for 72 hours to enhance results. We would
like you to stay in office for ½ hour post treatment to monitor for allergic reaction. Hives are not
uncommon and usually subside. Claritin or antihistamine of choice can be used to reduce.
You are encouraged to maintain normal activities and resume your exercise program the next
day. You should follow a low carbohydrate, high protein diet for 72 hours post treatment. Best
results are obtained with high protein diet shakes five times a day and one low carbohydrate
meal of vegetables such as a salad with dressing, steamed veggies and meat/fish/chicken which
had been baked or broiled (no potato or bread or pasta). Also drink 8 ten ounce servings of water. This will optimize your results.
Possible Risks of Injections
Complications associated with injections are infrequent and are generally avoidable using aseptic techniques, experience, and careful choice of injection sites. The risks below are possible with
any needle stick, whether it be a shot, blood draw, or other procedure.

Bruising – Bruises can occur with any type of injection and may be more prominent
in fair skinned individuals, those using blood thinning medications and older patients.
Superficial blebs or wheals – may be a temporary side effect and usually resolve in
1-3
days if they occur. Antihistamines can reduce the incidence of this problem.
Wound infection – is possible anytime the skin barrier is broken but reduced by
aseptic technique and post procedure care. Topical or oral antibiotics may be utilized if infection occurs.
Poor healing – if you have had trouble healing in the past you are an inappropriate
candidate for these procedures.
Scarring – is a possible permanent side effect associated with any injections as
well as lightening or darkening of the skin at the injection site.
Swelling/redness – is a temporary effect which may be experienced any time there
is injury to tissue. This can be reduced by applying ice, arnica, and/or topical steroid ointment.
Allergic reaction – may occur anytime a foreign substance is introduced into the
body. Your history can sometimes help us avoid it but it can also occur any time. If
the reaction is limited a topical steroid ointment or antihistamine will provide relief.
For more serious reaction oral steroids may be necessary. If the reaction is severe
emergency measures should be taken.
I have read the above and consent to the procedure.
