Northwood and the
Carnes Community
A group of Israeli educators from the
Hadera
Partniship2gether
Consortium
visited our Carnes campus in April. Along
with the leadership from Israel, Judi
Corsaro, Chief Executive Director of the
Charleston Jewish Federation toured
Northwood Church and our school
campuses. Mrs. Denise Deveaux has
partnered with an Israeli teacher, Michal
Heiman, from Hadera. Our sixth graders
have been pen pals with Ms. Heiman’s
students. It’s wonderful to see Northwood
reaching out to the world!
Saturday, April 22, Northwood participated in
a groundbreaking ceremony for a new home
constructed for a wounded veteran and his
family. This joint project between Carnes
Crossroads, Max Crosby Construction, and
Operation Finally Home, was attended by
Larry Evanoff, our Dir ector of Schools,
and Northwood juniors Mary Pratt and
McKenna Richards. McKenna lead the
Pledge of Allegiance for the ceremony, while
Mary sang the National Anthem. As the
Lower School makes its move to Carnes
Crossroads soon, we are excited to see what
other ways we can contribute to our
community.

Each year, our 8th grade class participates in a project called 'A Journey through American History', where
they portray our founding fathers, inventors, writers, scientists, and others who have contributed to the
growth of our nation! They spent many weeks studying, building, writing, and rehearsing. They proudly
presented their work to our Lower School students, family and friends. GREAT JOB!
Junior Betas Attend Leadership Summit
Several members of the Junior Beta Club attended the Leadership Summit at
Jekyll Island, GA in March. Nationally-known speakers encouraged them to
stand up and be leaders in their schools and communities. They also
participated in activities that allowed them to practice their interpersonal skills
as they met and worked with Betas from around the region. One of the
highlights of the trip came when Northwood Academy was announced as one
of the top teams in the Rapid Response competition. Rapid Response Team
members included Colby Carter, Collin Briscoe, Sophie Miller, Ali
Eubanks, and Sadie Underwood. The J unior Beta Club is under the
sponsorship of Mrs. Rebecca Gentry. Congratulations on a job well done!
