MISSIONS:
On the first Sunday of each month we collect canned goods and paper
goods for the food bank. Please bring your items on Sunday April 7.
More and more clients tell us they’ve been laid off. It takes qualified people to
fill the job market openings but it also takes being in the right place at the right
time. Most clients are registered with the Work Force (Conroe) and are
required to check regularly to learn if their qualifications match up with a new
job listing. We mostly see the MOMS of a family needing assistance and their
stories can break your heart, making you realize your own problems may be
minor. Please continue your support of Helping Hands.
WHAT DID/WILL YOU GIVE UP? (There’s still more than 3 weeks left in Lent)
During Lent, some Christians give up a luxury or vice as a form of self-denial or to practice
self-control. Ultimately, such a sacrifice should benefit one’s spiritual walk with Jesus, who
gave everything.
A Missouri teenager decided to give up talking for Lent. Decklan Conway, 13, communicated
through dry-erase boards, going through three markers in less than a week. Although he lost
a few friends because he wouldn’t talk, Decklan wrote, “I’m doing it for a greater purpose.” He
added, “God gave up his only Son for us. … What are you willing to give up?” A worthy
corollary to that question is “What will you take on?” What can you do for God’s kingdom
during this season of reflection and re-commitment?
