Constitution Example - McFarland School District

My Constitution By V. Colle
Hour 8 PREAMBLE: I, Vicki Colle, do promise to abide by the following articles in order to remain healthy and successful throughout my life. ARTICLE I: Goals and values I have many goals for my future. Some of my short term goals are to complete high school and complete college with a degree in Family Consumer Sciences. I hope to meet my future husband during this time so I can eventually get married. I plan on remaining childless and pursuing a career as a 4H and Youth Agent. I will achieve these goals by studying and staying on top of my school work (getting my work done and turned in on time). I will do my work ahead of time and not put it off until the last minute. Although I plan to be involved in extracurricular activities in college, I must not be distracted by them so I will be able to graduate with good grades. I will be ready and available to move to any available county in the state that has a 4H and Youth Agent job open. I must be well rounded so I will be able to have a good interview and rise above the competition. I will not actively look for a husband, but will be open to learning more about the men I date to see if they are a possible longterm match. I am not a person that likes to take drugs, even Tylenol. I do not intend to take drugs that are unnecessary in my life. I am also affected by second hand smoke, so I will not smoke in my lifetime. I will not allow people to smoke in my house, either. As for drinking, I am not sure yet how I will feel about this as an adult. I will not be drinking when I am in sports because I don’t want to jeopardize my eligibility. I think drinking is ok in moderation, and I don’t think I will be doing a lot of it as an adult. A poor choice would be to party too much in college and not go to class. This could cause me to not get good enough grades to be considered for a job I apply for. Some things I value in my life are my family, my education and my athletic abilities. I value my family because they have been supportive of my choices and have encouraged me to be the best I can be. I value my education because it is something that can never be taken away from me. Many people are not educated and cannot get the advantages financially that a person with education can. I value my athletic ability because it helps me remain healthy and I enjoy being active. ARTICLE II: Communication and Relationships My definition of a friend is someone that I can feel free to talk to about anything, and I know they will not tell others what I have confided. When I call my friend Kristi, even though it may have been months or even a year since we have talked, it seems like she lives next door. She listens and understands what I am going through. I do the same for her. She is patient when I complain about my family. I always feel better after I speak to her. Three relationships that I value are my parents, my brothers and my boyfriend. I value my parents because they support me in whatever goal I have. They are ready to do what needs to be done to help. When I needed to have a way to get a float to a parade, my dad put a hitch on the car so we could get there. I value my brothers because they help make me who I am. They spend a lot of time teasing me and being mean, but I know they are there for me if I need them. My one brother helped give me ideas for a speech I had to give in a class, and even helped me write the speech. Another brother helped me find a song to sing at an event. I value my boyfriend because he likes me for the person I am and likes spending time with me. He and I are a little competitive about achievement, but we also cheer each other on when we are competing. At a track meet we cheered for each other in our events. He also let me interview him for a project I was working on. Some advantages of communication are being able to express my thoughts and know that my opinion matters; the other person is actually listening to me and thinking about my opinion. I will try to do the same for them. I also think communication is important because my partner cannot read my mind. To have a respectful relationship, I will express my thoughts in a positive way before it becomes an issue. In an article I read about being with the right person, Rebecca Webber states, “
A new view of relationships and their discontents is emerging. We alone are
responsible for having the relationship we want. And to get it, we have to dig deep into
ourselves while maintaining our connections."
Ms. Webber is talking about being with your mate and still keeping your relationship with others. My third advantage of communication is having an understanding that I will keep other relationships in my life, as well as expecting that my partner will also. We are with each other, but we are both still individuals with our own hopes and dreams. ARTICLE III: SUMMARY: I resolve to abide by the articles I have written about. My actions will not only affect myself, but my friends and family also. I hope to have a happy, healthy life with someone I love. ________________________
