What does Share Tawe do? Why might an asylum seeker be

What does Share Tawe do?
We offer shelter and support for refused asylum seekers who find
themselves destitute.
Why might an asylum seeker be destitute?
When people first apply for asylum, if they have no other form of
support they are given accommodation and an allowance of just
over £5 per day. If they are refused, and if they have no dependent
children with them, they are often left with nowhere to stay, no
money and are not allowed to work.
How can you help?






Offer a room in your home to a destitute asylum seeker for a
night, a weekend, or longer
Raise or donate money for bus fares, food, etc. Standing orders
are a really helpful way to donate personally
Help with running the project and publicising it
Tell others about the project
Support a host – e.g. by offering a meal in your own home, or
offering a bed to their guests if they need a break or have
visitors.
A group of 2 or 3 households could offer someone in destitution
longer term security
How do we make the scheme work safely?




We take up references on both guests and hosts
We take care over who we place and look for a good match
We help people to find a way of hosting that suits them
We do not put pressure on people to host or to carry on hosting
if it’s not working for them.
How will I find out more?
Contact the scheme organiser by emailing [email protected] .
She will get back in touch.

How do we spend voluntary donations?
£19 per week will buy a weekly bus ticket for guests living outside
the city centre to go to appointments, sign with the authorities,
access drop ins, English classes, and simply live an independent life
£40 per week contributes to the costs of a host – bills, food etc
£20 per week contributes to guest’s personal costs – e.g.
additional food, mobile phone top up etc
