Evaluate the given expression.
6. 3 – [(4 ÷ 2) + 1]
= 3 – [2 + 1] divide 4 by 2
= 3 – [3] add 2 + 1
= 3–3
= 0
7. [(4 + 16) ÷ 5] - 2
= [20 ÷ 5] - 2 add 4 + 16
= [4] - 2 divide 20 by 5
= 4–2
= 2
8. Evaluate [224.9 ÷ (4.3 + 16.5)] - 9.3
= [224.9 ÷ 20.8] - 9.3 add 4.3 + 16.5
= [10.8125] - 9.3 divide 224.9 by 20.8
= 10.8125 – 9.3
= 1.5125

9. 2s – 3 , when s = 14
= 2(14) – 3 substitute 14 for s
= 28 – 3 multiply 2 by 14
= 25
10. 2x – 3y + 2, when x = 4 and y = 1
= 2(4) – 3(1) + 2 substitute 4 for x and 1 for y
= 8 – 3 + 2 multiply
= 7
