Dear Parents, Your student’s teachers have been working hard this year to prepare your Rockville student to do his or her best on ISTEP+(Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus). Teachers have developed lessons all year long to ensure students learn state standards in English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Your student’s progress on these standards will be measured by ISTEP+. Teachers at Rockville have also made use of Acuity testing to gain an understanding of any deficiency areas your student may have and to differentiate the best educational plan for your student. The purpose of the Acuity assessments is to provide diagnostic measures for grade 3-8 students in English/Language Arts (E/LA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as for students in Algebra I and English 10. Assessment reports provide standards-aligned performance data, which support an educator’s ability to inform instruction at the student, class, school, and corporation level. Rockville Jr/Sr High School would like to remind parents that the ISTEP Applied Skills test begins March 3. All students will tested. It is imperative that all students come to school on time each day in order to not miss any ISTEP testing. Rockville would also like to provide some additional strategies that might help your student perform his or her best during the ISTEP. ISTEP Multiple Choice test will be April 27-May 15. For high school students ECA exams will begin April 20. Week before ISTEP Establish an early bedtime routine, to ensure your student receives at least 8 hours of sleep each night. Remove televisions, CD players, or other distractions from his/her bedroom to ensure they have an uninterrupted sleep. Make sure your student eats a healthy breakfast before school. Limit the number of sodas your student drinks. Be positive about the test! Don’t put undue pressure on your student’s performance. Reassure your student; let them know that they just need to do his/her best Encourage your student to take his/her time; they are given plenty of time to complete the test. Have your child practice math facts orally, utilizing flash cards, to improve speed and accuracy. Ask your student to read aloud to you and occasionally stop them to ask questions about a paragraph they just read. The week of ISTEP Do all of the same things above, and… Dress your student in comfortable/loose fitting clothing. Limit the number of sodas they drink. Encourage your student to play outside after school, if weather permits, for at least 30 minutes. (The physical exercise helps relieve stress.) Reschedule any appointments for that week. Continue practicing math facts and reading aloud. Make sure your student brings at least three #2 pencils to school each day. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Bring Your Own Technology During the spring 2015 semester NCPCSC is piloting a B.Y.O.T. (Bring Your Own Technology) program. Any student who has a personal device in grades 7-12 and wishes to bring that device to school, to use for the purposes of supporting instruction, may do so. Each student/parent will be required to sign an agreement that explains the principles and procedures that will guide this program. At the end of the school year, the program will be reviewed for its effectiveness and NCPCSC will consider extending this program in the future. The B.Y.O.T student agreement will be available in each school office for pickup. Students will return their signed agreement to school and then will undergo a short orientation to the program, turn in their agreements and then receive their WIFI voucher for their device. This initial rollout will include devices as described by the definition of technology below. Phase 1 of this BYOT Pilot will not include cell phones.
