About Osaka University JASSO Scholarship Osaka University is recognized as one of the leading research universities in the world and is at the forefront of technological and social innovation. During 2016-2017, it was ranked 63rd by the QS World University Rankings. Osaka University can trace its beginnings to the Edo Period and was founded as the sixth imperial university, starting with 2 faculties: Medicine and Science. Today, it has a total of 25,000 students and consists of 11 Schools, 16 Graduate Schools, 5 Research Institutes, 2 Hospitals, 4 Libraries, and many other facilities. In 2011, JASSO (Japan Student Support Organization) started offering a new scholarship scheme for international students who study in Japan for no longer than three months. The JShIP program was designed to fit into this scholarship category. In AY 2017, Osaka University successfully obtains certain amount of financial support for the J-ShIP 2017-2018 participants, using this scholarship initiative. The JASSO grant of 160,000 JPY for Summer program students, and 80,000 JPY for Winter program, will be offered for well qualified students. JAcc 100 Students are expected to gain very basic proficiency in Japanese equivalent to A2.1 (Waystage) in CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference) scale or halfway to N4 in JLPT (the Japanese Language Proficiency Test) scale. JAcc 200 Students are expected to build basic proficiency in Japanese equivalent to A2.2 (strong Waystage) in CEFR scale or N4 in JLPT scale.
