Conceived by the Prince William County Service Authority

Tap into Virginia!
The Virginia Section of the American Water Works
Association was one of many organizations that supported
the idea of honoring the water and wastewater industry. VA
AWWA Executive Manager Geneva Hudgins called the
folks who work in the industry "unsung heroes."
wE-SPLASH Sponsors
"Their dedication and excellence is unparalleled, often
going unnoticed," Hudgins said. "The Virginia American
Water Works Association extends its deepest thanks for creating a
better world through better water."

#crisiscommunications Utilizing Social Media and Outreach Tools
July 14 at Noon
Crisis Communications and
Social Media
Social Media - the Who, How,
Why and ROI
Every business is feeling the
pressure to join the social media
movement; however, it's easier
said than done. There are so
many platforms and apps to
choose from. It's difficult to know
where to start and where you will
find the best return on
investment, especially while
being pressed to "do more, with less." This presentation highlights which social media tools
are best for your audience, your customers, and why. More importantly, it shows how
demographics play into this decision-making process, and why it should be important to you.
Also included in the webinar is a Case Study:
The Art and Science of Crisis Communications
Sometimes we are caught off guard and thrown into the stormy waters of a crisis situation
with communities, the media, and others. We will discuss ways to help you anticipate and
prevent the negative impacts of a crisis, better manage those situations that do occur, and
improve your overall professional communication skills and effectiveness. We will discuss the
factors leading up to and during community outrage about a new combined sewer overflow
(CSO) management system that did not live up to agency promises about odor management
and thus triggered immediate and intense negative reaction. We'll also look at other
scenarios where the "art and science" of public relations, media management, and technical
communications led to the rapid turn-around of a crisis to restore trust and recover
organizational reputation.
