(541) 664-6300, Fax (541) 664-7171 www.RVSS.us POSITION OPEN: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE/STORMWATER TECHNICIAN LOCATION: CENTRAL POINT, OR CLOSING: APRIL 1, 2017 SALARY: $4,045 - $5,010 per month JOB SUMMARY: Rogue Valley Sewer Services is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of an Environmental Science/Stormwater Technician. This is a full time, permanent position. The Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Stormwater Program Manager assisting with implementation of the NPDES MS4 Phase II Stormwater Permit Program. Rogue Valley Sewer Services holds the permit for the cities of Talent, Phoenix, Central Point and urbanized, unincorporated Jackson County. Implementation of the program involves public education and outreach, public involvement, construction site erosion and sediment control, post-construction stormwater management and illicit discharge detection and elimination. The Technician will participate in the development, coordination and implementation of public education and outreach events and activities for community sectors including the general public, business and commercial institutions, local elected officials, and jurisdictional staff. Development and implementation of events will require extensive collaboration with community partners. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with agencies, contractors, businesses, municipalities, schools and community organizations. The position will involve occasional weekend and evening work for events, face-to-face interaction with the public and field work. Assist with updating of GIS maps of the stormwater system through collection of geographic information with a Trimble GPS. Conduct stream investigations to identify sources of illicit discharge including collection of samples from streams and the stormwater system and analyze samples for E. coli concentration. JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: • Graduation from an accredited four year college with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree related to environmental education, environmental science and two years of experience in education, or environmental science work. • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to effectively communicate and work with a broad spectrum of audiences, including the general public, construction contractors, public officials, and state and federal regulators. • Interpersonal skills including conflict resolution and consensus building • Knowledge of communication principles, media and marketing techniques • Experience developing professional relationships with partners and community members. • Experience developing and facilitating public education programs, use of social media for public outreach. • Knowledge of Field work including collection of water and plant samples. • Understanding of the principles of Low Impact Development and Green Infrastructure • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. • Capable of using MS Office Products, Adobe Acrobat, ARC GIS • Enjoy working outside and conducting field work in Southern OR weather. • Strong work ethic and good organizational skills.
