WOYZECK
It’s a barbaric way to earn money. Pushing yourself to your mental and physical limits with psychotropic drugs and
merciless exercising. But it’s Woyzeck’s only way out, and with what he earns for selling his health and by working in
a restaurant and in subway tunnels, he just about makes ends meet. When he comes home at night to his wife Marie
and his infant child, he’s an impotent wreck – and definitely unable to afford the earrings he sees Marie wearing one
day. That she’s frustrated and has accepted the jewelry from the sleek and sexy local pimp – no, Woyzeck mustn’t
find out. But he does. Reaching a point of no return, plagued by voices and hallucinations, he loses his already weak
grip on reality. Grabbing Marie and their child, Woyzeck flees into the tunnels, where he promises her happiness and
redemption, and where he is master of life and death.

Georg Büchner’s (1813-1837) incomplete drama “Woyzeck” is one of the most celebrated works of the author, a leading
figure in German pre-revolutionary literature. In this gritty, unflinching, modern-day adaptation, filmmaker Nuran David Calis
casts two sensational young up-and-coming talents in the lead roles,Tom Schilling (Crazy) and Nora von Waldstätten (Carlos).
