The Limbic System
By Kristen, Noah, and Jake
This Is The Limbic System!
The Limbic System
is beneath the
central cortex and
wraps around the
brain stem.

Limbic Function
The Limbic System is involved in
your motivation, emotion, learning
and memory.
Basal ganglia is the part of the
Limbic system that controls
intentional direction.
It is also responsible for sensory
processing, time perception,
attention, consciousness, instincts

The Limbic system and other brain functions
The Limbic system directly interacts with the endocrine
system and and the autonomic nervous system.
It is also closely connected to the nucleus accumbens, which
is the pleasure center for the brain.
Voluntary or Involuntary Functions?
Based off of our findings, we believe that it has both
involuntary and voluntary functions. This is because it triggers
you to react to sensations and emotions, but one can still
control one’s emotions at times.

Interrupted Systems
Stimulating different parts of the limbic system can affect the functioning of the hypothalamus. Such
stimulation can also trigger emotional behavior, such as aggression. Damage to various areas of the
limbic system disturbs many behaviors related to motivation and emotion.
Damage to the prefrontal area produces difficulties with abstract reasoning, judgment moods and puzzle
solving. The effect of frontal lobe damage on mood depends on the specific part of the prefrontal cortex
damaged. The patient's behavior is often described as tactless. Also, this part of the cortex can also be
strongly affected by alcohol.
