Propaganda poster project

Higher and Standard Levels
Propaganda Posters
In this project you will do some basic research into the elements of
propaganda and what makes a good propaganda poster. Your
poster may include any event that we have covered in either the
Standard or Higher Level courses. To complete your poster however,
you must read at least three articles on the uses of propaganda in
conflict. I strongly recommend that you find at least a few of these
sources on the ABC-CLIO database. You should also look at
Seventeen Moments in Soviet History along with other historical
databases linked through the school OPAC. There are likewise many
places where you can find elements of propaganda. Here is one
example:
http://www.globalissues.org/article/157/war-propaganda-and-themedia#ElementsofPropaganda
I will not limit you to one interpretation and you are free to use nearly
any site except WIkipedia to identify the elements of propaganda
that you will focus on. A note on content however: you may not do
work that is pro-Nazi, anti-Semitic, anti-Chinese or that degrades or
demeans members of the IST community.
The poster needs to fit on a standard sized piece of large colored
paper (usually an A1 sized sheet of paper). The poster should be
well designed, drawn and presented. Your work should contain a
bibliography outlining any sources you have read or used in
preparing your poster. You must also write a brief accompanying
essay, no longer than one page, that provides the historical
background necessary to understand your poster including the
elements of propaganda that you have applied. This must be
written in essay format and will be presented with your finished
poster.
Finished posters will be displayed on the bulletin boards in the
Humanities hallway of the school.
Scores will be given using a simple rubric (next page). I will choose
the best five components of the six listed, add the score and
convert it to a simple percentage (multiply by 4).
