ENGLISH
 Fiction / Poetry – Treasure Island, with a focus on descriptive and
figurative language, narrative storytelling, character description and use
of vocabulary to engage the reader.

Non-fiction – European Geography, with a focus on retrieving
information (skimming and scanning, note taking), reports and
explanations

Spelling: Identify mis-spelt words in own writing and keep individual
lists to learn to spell them. To investigate meanings and spellings for
connectives. To use word roots, prefixes, suffixes and general spelling
rules to develop spelling strategies.


History - Mayan Civilisation
DESIGN TECHNOLOGY
Investigating, designing and making a moving machine using cogs and cranks.
COMPUTING
Using software to design and build architecture linked to European geography.
ART

Punctuation: To secure knowledge and understanding of basic
punctuation and of more sophisticated punctuation marks e.g. semicolon, commas, brackets, dashes.
Maritime artists and their artwork
Grammar – Correct use of grammar, verb / subject agreement, sentence
types and word classes.

 Number – Calculations and word problems involving the 4 operations:
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Using decimal,
tenths and hundredths. Comparing and ordering numbers including
decimals. Mental strategies and written strategies. Problem solving:

European Geography - Map work, landmarks, physical and human features.
Geometry – Symmetry. Bar-line and bar charts. Properties of triangles.
