The ideal candidate will have an in-­‐depth knowledge and understanding of public involvement, stakeholder identification, campaign development and execution. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be a self-­‐starter, creative, able to learn quickly and manage multiple tasks in a fast-­‐paced environment. Candidate should be proficient in AP Style, give attention to detail, have a working knowledge of local, state and federal requirements for public involvement and have strong knowledge of social media. Key Areas of Responsibility: • Strategic development, implementation and management of public involvement and communications programs • Coordinate and supervise the day-­‐to-­‐day activities of the public involvement function • Serve as a liaison to agency clients • Serve as the primary contact for the media, project stakeholders, and elected and appointed officials • Coordinate with municipalities, transportation, and other governmental agencies • Ability to learn about and understand community issues – socioeconomic, environmental, political, etc. -­‐ and how they impact assigned clients and projects • Create messaging and develop written materials such as newsletters, press releases, reports, blogs and other communication vehicles as needed • The ability to translate technical information into reader friendly content • Review internal/external documents and materials for quality assurance and quality control • Work with traditional and new media outlets • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus • Proficient in AP writing style Qualifications: • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in communications/ journalism, urban planning, transportation, public administration and/or public policy • A minimum of five to seven years professional experience in communications, public policy, public administration, urban planning and/or transportation in an agency environment is required • A minimum of two years supervisory experience • A minimum of four years experience working with large transportation projects • Previous experience with crisis communications and management •
