With a timid voice and idolizing eyes, the little boy
greeted his father as he returned from work,
“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?” “Please
son, don’t bother me now, I’m tired”. “But Daddy,
how much do you make an hour?” “OK, twenty
dollars an hour”. “Okay. Daddy, could you loan me
ten dollars?” “The father yelled, “So that was the
reason you asked how much I earn, right? Go to
sleep and don’t bother me anymore.” It was already
dark and the father was mediating on what he had
said and was feeling guilty. Maybe he thought his
son wanted to buy something.
Finally, trying to
ease his mind, the father went to his son's room.
"Are you asleep son?" asked the father.
"No, Daddy. Why?" replied the boy partially asleep.
"Here's the money you asked for earlier," the father
said. "Thanks, Daddy!" rejoiced the son, while
putting his hand under his pillow and removing
some money. "Now I have enough! Now I have
twenty dollars!" the boy said to his father, who was
gazing at his son, confused at what his son just said.
"Daddy could you sell me one hour of your time?"

Best advice I got from my dad:
"Treat others as you would be treated, don't
judge a person by how they look, your family
comes first, and help those around you who
need help."
— Cora
I know this is the most typical advice, but my
dad always told me to do my best. To keep at
what I believed in, and to realize that there
will always be days and people who will want
to hold me back.
— Jenn
The best advice my father gave me was never
spoken, but I observed it. My father never
talks about, degrades, or spreads gossip about
anybody. I think that is very admirable.
— Jill
When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was
so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the
old man around. But when I got to be
twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he
had learned in seven years.

“Take me out to the ball game”
Adapted from the British game of rounder’s — and
by extension, cricket — the game of base ball or
"town ball" became popular in the early 19th
century in South-western Ontario. The first
documented evidence of a base ball game in
Canada comes from a letter published in Sporting
Life magazine in 1886, a letter by Dr. Adam E. Ford
of Denver, Colorado, formerly of St. Mary’s,
Ontario and Beachville, Ontario, about a game 48
years earlier.
The first game was played in Beachville, Ontario,
about 40 kilometres east of London, on June 4,
1838, with a ball of twisted yarn and a club carved
from cedar. In the audience was a battalion of
Scots volunteers on their way to
mop
up the remnants of the Upper
Canada Rebellion.
Many Canadians claim that this
was the first documented game of
modern baseball, although there
appears to be no evidence that
the rules used in this game
were codified and adopted
in other regions.
Baseball was once so popular in Canada that there
was even talk of making it our national sport. The
story goes back far enough. The sport spread
quickly across Canada. They played “bat” in Red
River in the 1830s. The name of Blackie has been
synonymous with sports to everyone in southern
Alberta since its beginning. Sports in Blackie
started as it did in all prairie centers with rodeo and
horse racing.
Blackie has had many outstanding representatives
in team sports, winning numerous championships
and many other honours in baseball, curling and
hockey. In other sports such as tennis, golf,
badminton, basketball, soccer and trapshooting
that were participated in at various intervals.
Baseball was played in Blackie in the early 1920’s to
just after the second world war. Two years in
succession the team went to Camrose to the
biggest ball tournament in the west and each year
came home winners
