Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAP) You must maintain satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for further loans. Satisfactory academic progress is measured annually at the end of each academic year in accordance with the University’s published academic standards required for graduation and U.S. regulations. To be eligible for further funding you must fulfill all three SAP Components:  Grade Point Average (Qualitative)  Pace (Quantitative)  Time (Quantitative) All periods of enrollment count when assessing progress even periods when no U.S. Direct Loan funding was received. Failure to meet all of the above requirements will result in loss of furtherassistance. U.S. Direct Loan No Warning! There is nowith WARNING PERIOD. Grade Point Average (Qualitative component)  A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 by the end of year two or the equivalent of at least a “C”.  Year 2 is at the completion of 4 semesters attended Failure Results In:  No further U.S. Direct Loan  You may continue your studies at the University of Toronto without U.S. Direct Loan and raise your GPA to the minimum required to be eligible for U.S. Direct Loan in the future  Appeal may be possible (see Appeal of Satisfactory Academic Progress) Pace (Quantitative component) Pace = Total Credits Completed /Total Credits Attempted  Completion of at least 3.5 full time course equivalents (FTE) by the end of each academic year for undergraduate Arts and Science students or a completion rate that would enable you to complete your degree within the maximum timeframe (150% of the published length of degree completion time).  Completed courses include courses transferred from another university or program towards your University of Toronto degree; Credit (CR)  Attempted course include Late Withdrawals (LWD), No Credit (NCR), Standing Deferred (SDF), Extra –includes Repeats(EXT) Failure Results in:  No further U.S. Direct Loan.  You may continue your studies at the University of Toronto without U.S. Direct Loan and raise your completion pace to 3.5 FTE to be eligible for U.S. Direct Loan in the future.  Appeal may be possible (see Appeal of Satisfactory Academic Progress) Timeframe (Quantitative component)  Undergraduates must complete your program within 150% of the University of Toronto published length of degree completion time.  Graduates must complete your program within the timeframe published in the University of Toronto Graduate Calendar.  If you have insufficient time left to complete your degree in the maximum timeframe, you are not eligible for further U.S. Direct Loan. Appeals are considered. Failure Results In:  no further U.S. Direct Loan Timeframe (Quantitative Component) Published Length of CGPA or GPA at end of Maximum Years to Complete Degree (Timeframe) year Degree while Receiving U.S. Direct Loans 1 year GPA meets academic 1.5 years standing required to graduate 4 year (applies to CGPA of 2.0 or the Undergraduate Degrees) equivalent to “C” at the 6 years end of year 2. All other years, GPA meets academic standing required to graduate 5 year GPA meets academic 7.5 years standing required to graduate Appeal of Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals will be considered for unusual or extraordinary situations such as:       family difficulties medical problems illness death in a family interpersonal relationship problems financial difficulties Required documentation must include the following:  letter explaining why you were unable to meet the SAP  documentation supporting your reasons for not meeting the SAP  explanation of what has changed that will enable you to meet the SAP  Official Academic Plan of Recovery developed by you and your official school advisor outlining the upcoming school year courses that demonstrates you will meet SAP All required documentation must be submitted to Enrolment Services, 172 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario M5R 0A3, Attention: SAP Appeal Committee Decisions:  You will be notified of the outcome of your appeal by mail to your mailing address on ROSI  Successful appeals will result in Financial Probation Status. Maintaining Satisfactory Academic Performance:  You must provide evidence of satisfactory academic progress before the next disbursement is paid typically in January  If you do not meet the SAP requirements of the academic plan, you will lose your eligibility for U.S. Direct Loan for the next term and year.
