Many of the names in Hamlet are uncommon in our
culture; however, they all contain many hidden words. Your
team will have to find these hidden words.
 Example:
The word Polonius contains the letters to spell many
other words: son, pin, loop, solo, slop, spoon, pious, etc.
Each team will be given one name and will have to make
as many words as they can out of that word in five minutes.
Use each letter only as many times as it appears in each
word. The words you find must have at least three letters.
Teams may use a dictionary or a thesaurus, but no cell
phones or computers…that’s cheating!
The team with the most correct words will win a NO


The play begins around two months after the death of King Hamlet,
who has returned to Denmark in the form of a GHOST. The ghost
visits the guards of Elsinore, the castle, and Horatio, Prince Hamlet’s
close friend. Though the ghost will not speak to any of them,
HORATIO believes its presence is a bad omen.
A coming war looms in the future: Prince FORTINBRAS of Norway
wants to regain lands lost by his father to King Hamlet.
Meanwhile, CLAUDIUS, the late king’s brother, has married Queen
GERTRUDE, becoming the new King. Prince Hamlet is unhappy with
this development. He believes their marriage is one of INCEST and
occurred much too quickly after his father’s death. Hamlet agrees
to not go back to school in Wittenberg, but his mood is dark and at
times suicidal.
The king’s advisor, POLONIUS, sends his son Laertes off to France to
go to school. Both Laertes and Polonius warn OPHELIA (Polonius’s
daughter and Laertes’ sister) to reject Hamlet’s declarations of love.
Marcellus (the guard), Horatio and Hamlet go to meet the ghost.
The ghost takes Hamlet somewhere secret, and reveals that
Claudius murdered the old king. Hamlet is charged with getting
REVENGE/VENGEANCE on his uncle. He tells his friends that he may
act strange from hereon out, but he is not really crazy. They are not
to reveal anything that they have seen regarding the ghost.
