The houses are finished to a very high standard, and offer up-to-date and comfortable living. With a maximum of just three service users, each house has a modern, open- plan design and is positioned close to the city centre. Each service user has their own bedroom, and several of these are en suite. All rooms are secure and are furnished with lockable drawer units. Clients are encouraged to personalise their own rooms and arrangements can be made for furniture to be removed if service users wish to bring their own. Houses are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and our staff are provided with a room to allow for supervision throughout the night. Staffing is allocated on the basis of a needs-led assessment, and if an individual is considered to require one-to- one staffing, or even more, then that can be provided. Service users decide how they wish to spend their time. Staff support individuals to continue their education through enrolment in local colleges or night schools, and there is an abundance of nearby leisure and recreational facilities should clients benefit from physical stimulation such as walking or swimming. We have access to a trained music therapist, and are happy to help users to access whatever therapies they choose. In short, it is the needs and desires of the service user which shape their experience with us and they are, at all times, listened to and their opinions sought and respected. Should you be interested in using our services, please feel free to come and visit our office or properties, meet our clients and staff, and experience how Special Needs Care can fulfil your needs and those of the person you’d like to place with us. We will then carry out a full assessment of the prospective client at his or her current placement, invite them to visit and, perhaps, stay overnight. Once all parties are happy with decisions reached, we will arrange for the transition to one of our properties. Ongoing dialogue with all parties At all times during this process and thereafter, we maintain strong links and dialogue with clients, family members, authorities and key professionals to ensure that everyone involved are fully satisfied and happy. Provided the relevant authorities and parents confirm acceptance of the placement and their financial responsibility, and the transition is successful, we will offer a minimum three-month settling-in period followed by a review, to ensure that our new client’s individual needs are met and maintained. Placement as soon as possible Special Needs Care will provide the authorities and the client (or their representative) with a written contract which includes our costs (based on our individual assessment), together with our standard Terms & Conditions. If we have no immediate vacancy for long-term care, we will place the prospective client on a waiting list and endeavour to find them a suitable placement within one of our homes as soon as possible – normally within three months. “There is now an urgent need to begin the development of a new adult care system.
