Transportation will be provided for students desiring to attend one or more of the summer sessions. You
will be contacted by Kobussen Buses Ltd. the week prior to the start of summer school regarding pick-up
times and locations.
A registration form is included in this booklet and additional forms will be available at each school, as well
as online. Forms can be returned to individual classroom teachers or to Josh Hartman at the Elementary
School, 401 8th Avenue.
All summer school registration forms are due back by Wednesday, April 12th.

The Bloomer School District will be offering a breakfast program for students attending summer school. Participating students
will continue to use the same lunch account they use during the regular school year. All students will retain the same lunch
status (regular or free / reduced) as they were under during the school year. Students that do not attend the public school during
the school year but enroll in the summer session will need to stop by the Bloomer District office to set up an account and / or file
for a free / reduced application with the Bloomer School District if they plan to eat breakfast. These forms are available at the
district office, 1310 17th Avenue, or you can call (715) 568-2800 and request a form. The breakfast will be available at the
Elementary School cafeteria from 7:40 – 8:00 am for all students. If you have any questions, contact Josh Hartman, ES Principal
/ Summer School Director or Pam Hebert, District Secretary.
(For Incoming 4K Students)
Any student who will be attending the Bloomer 4K program in the fall of 2017 is eligible to participate in this four-day summer
school class. The course will introduce incoming 4K students to a “4K day at Bloomer Elementary”. The students will meet
teachers, explore the classrooms, learn 4K expectations, create projects, PLAY on the playground, and meet new friends. The
class will be held during the week of June 12th – 15th and June 19th – 22nd. Each student will enroll for one of the two weeks.
Class will run Monday – Thursday from 8:00 am – 11:00 am. Parents will be responsible for transporting their child to and from
this course as no busing will be available. To enroll in this program, please contact the Elementary School Office at 568-2800.
(For Incoming Kindergarten Students)
The Bloomer Summer School Program will offer a 2-week Pre-Kindergarten class called “Early Explorers” for all incoming
5-year old Kindergarten students. We will work on gross and fine motor skills, problem-solving skills, early literacy
development, and social skills through hands-on learning. Students enrolled in this learning opportunity will experience what a
day in 5-year old Kindergarten may look like. There will be TWO sessions this year, each running for 2 weeks, Monday through
Thursday, from 8:00 am until 11:50 am. Session #1 will take place on June 12-15 and June 19-22. Session #2 will take place on
June 26-29 and July 3-6. Registration forms for Early Explorers are available at the Elementary School, (715) 568-2800.
(For Incoming 1st Grade Students)
This summer session will be filled with fun learning experiences to foster each child’s growth in writing, reading, math, and
problem-solving skills. The theme this summer is EXPLORING OUR WORLD. Children will be involved in a variety of activities
that will build background knowledge and enhance their learning. Field trips and learning centers will focus on the following
units: Science, America, Long Ago, Camping, Farming, Fire Safety and Summer Fun. This course will take place for six weeks,
June 12th – July 20th. Each day the class will run from 8:00 – 11:55 am, Monday – Thursday.

Students will be enrolled in reading and math courses based on teacher recommendations and will be placed by grade level.
Parents are strongly encouraged to have their child attend remedial math / reading courses if recommended by classroom
teachers. Students who are achieving below grade level will receive remediated instruction during these courses.

The Library Media Center will be open to students during the summer school session from 8 am – 11:55 am, Monday –
Thursday. Students will be able to use and check out materials during the six weeks of summer school. Parents will be
responsible for LOST or DAMAGED library materials.
The Bloomer Summer School program will also offer an open gym and weight room starting Monday, June 12th, and ending on
Thursday, July 20th. This will take place at the High School. Open gym hours will be 1:00 – 4:00 pm and 5:00 – 8:00 pm,
Monday –Wednesday. On Thursday, the gym will be open from 1:00-4:00 pm. Students do not have to sign up ahead of time to
take advantage of this opportunity.
This is informal speech and language support that is completely separate from IEPs. It is open to any student, with or without an
IEP, who would like individual or small group practice and exposure to age appropriate speech sounds, phonological awareness
skills, and/or language skills. Children, as young as 3, can benefit from play-based sessions focusing on age appropriate speech
sounds. Elementary students can practice speech or language skills while engaging in games and activities. Summer speech
sessions are usually 20-30 minutes in length, 1 – 2 times per week. Space will be limited and enrollment will be based on
availability.
If a student is coming to the summer session ONLY for speech therapy, then transportation to and from therapy will be the
responsibility of the parent(s) / guardian(s). Children involved in other summer school classes may be able to have speech
services during their school day. If you are interested in having your child receive speech / language therapy during the summer
session, please contact Meggan Bixby or Lynn Hammond Speech / Language Pathologists, at the Bloomer Elementary School at
568-2800.
The 2017 swimming lessons, as a part of the Bloomer Summer School Program, will be held June 12th – July 20th, Monday –
Thursday each week. This six week session will be held from 11:00 am – 4:30 pm each day. Pre-Registration for the swimming
lessons will take place in the high school lobby on Tuesday, May 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The Bloomer swimming lessons
program is Red Cross certified and all instructors are WSI certified. There is no charge for the lessons.

Students must register for six classes, although they will be placed into a total of four class periods (8:00 – 11:55 am) . Keep in mind that
some courses are double-period courses. Since there are limits to the number of students that can enroll in each course, please rank your

Course Description: The purpose of this Summer Fitness and Lifelong Games class is to teach students about the importance of
lifelong fitness, its benefits on our health, ways to properly train our bodies, and also provide students with fun games to play
outside of school. Students will learn the different muscle groups in the body and exercises to make them stronger. Throughout this
course students will be introduced to the weight room in the middle school and how to follow a weight training sheet. The course will
start with the basics of weight training and develop into longer weight training routines that can be done at home or anywhere with
minimal equipment. . Lifelong fitness is an important value to instill in students at a young age. This class will provide them with the
opportunity to learn about their bodies and also different games. The week will consist of two days weight training and two days of
games. Lifelong fitness games may include but are not limited to: Badminton, Bean Bag Toss, Ladder Golf, Kubb, Basketball,
Kickball, and Capture the Flag. Students should show up in workout clothes and proper sneakers. Students are encouraged to bring
a water bottle!

body physically and mentally, and healthy snacks will also be incorporated to the course as they are vital for reaching running goals.

Course Description: Here students will be able to create art pieces that will be displayed at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair
(NWSF). They will then be able to have first-hand experience of learning community involvement and understand how the art work is
sorted, judges, and ranked for 1st thru 4th place and hung for display on a large scale basis for the Norther Wisconsin State Fair
Grounds. This art work will be viewed by those attending the NWSF so students can take great pride in their community work. While
doing this they will be mentored by a teacher, judges and High School Art Club Students. Snacks will be provided by the art club.
Students helping will also receive a free entrance pass and parking pass for each day of the fair compliments of the NWSF

course students will be introduced to the weight room in the middle school and how to follow a weight training sheet. The course will
start with the basics of weight training and develop into longer weight training routines that can be done at home or anywhere with
minimal equipment. . Lifelong fitness is an important value to instill in students at a young age. This class will provide them with the
opportunity to learn about their bodies and also different games. The week will consist of two days weight training and two days of
games. Lifelong fitness games may include but are not limited to: Badminton, Bean Bag Toss, Ladder Golf, Kubb, Basketball,
Kickball, and Capture the Flag. Students should show up in workout clothes and proper sneakers. Students are encouraged to bring
a water bottle!
