International Airport Tax
500 Thai baht.
Currency
The Thai currency is the baht. Banknotes come in values of 10, 20,
50, 100, 500 and 1,000 baht. ATM machines in Bangkok issue baht
only, so use the money changers at the airport or banks in town,
which offer better rates than at the hotels. Most credit cards are
widely accepted.

Thai is the main language of communication, but English is widely

Immigration
Value Added Tax (VAT) and Refunds
Visitors from many countries do not need a visa to enter Thailand,
and can stay up to 30 days. Visitors from outside of these countries
who are entering Thailand for an exhibition or conference should
have registration confirmations to support their visa application at
their local Thai Embassy or Consulate (check www.thaiembassy.org
for a listing). To find out your country’s visa requirements, check
with the Thai Immigration Bureau (www.immigration.go.th) or your
local Thai Embassy or Consulate.
Non-Thai visitors can claim a refund on Thailand’s Value Added
Tax (VAT) of 7%. This applies to visitors who have been in Thailand
for fewer than 180 days in a calendar year, and are departing
the country from an international airport. The goods must be
purchased from stores displaying the “VAT Refund for Tourists”
sign, and be taken out of Thailand within 60 days of purchase.
Transport
Excellent airport transfer services: From Suvarnabhumi
International Airport, it takes about 40 minutes to reach the city
by bus or taxi via an extensive network of expressways, and 15
minutes via the Rapid Train System.
Trains and subways: Modern Bangkok’s mass transport options
are the BTS elevated train system (sky train) and the MRT
underground electric train (subway). Both systems are interconnected, and run from 6am to midnight.
Taxis: One of the most comfortable and affordable ways of moving
around Bangkok. They can be found at every corner of the
shopping districts, and are hard to miss – most are painted in the
traditional combinations of green and yellow, red and blue, or eyecatching shades like bright orange, red and pink.
Tuk-tuks: The three-wheeled tuk-tuk is a Bangkok icon and known
for its careening ways, providing an experience of Bangkok’s
roads that is sometimes too daredevil for some visitors. Fares are
decided between the driver and passenger before the ride.
