WELCOME TO DTC TRAIN THE TRAINER PROGRAM ( FOR DRIVER ) 1ST TENDER BUSES 1623 CNG LOW ENTRY -HCBS HCBS Driving Controls Driving Controls Steering Lock cum Ignition Switch: • Located on the Steering Column having following positions• “START” START - Engine starting position position. • “ON” – Normal operating position when all electrical systems are “ON”. • “ACC”– Under this position, Radio and other accessories can operate operate, but the engine is off off. • “LOCK” – Normal parking position. Remove key under this position only. • CAUTION: • Do D not h hold ld the h key k in i the h “START” position ii for f more than 15 seconds • Do not leave the ignition switch in the “ON” position if the engine is not running. • WARNING: • Never remove the key, while the bus is in motion. • Always remove the key when parked to prevent un-intentional operation p of the vehicle. Driving Controls Gear Shift Selector: • • • • • • • • • The Gear shift lever is mounted on the Dash board control panel on left side of the driver. Th There are 4 forward f d gears, one reverse gear and d 1 auto mode. The LCD panel mounted on the gear shift unit displays the currently engaged gear and also the fault codes. The shift selector is used by the Driver to select the following ranges: R ( Reverse ) N ( Neutral ) D ( Drive ) 3 ( Third Range ) 2 ( Second Range ) 1 (First Range ) Ranges are selected by moving the lever to the desired selector position (R, N, D,3,2 , 1) Driving Controls Pedals & Parking Brake: • Brake Pedal (1) –Press the brake pedal slightly to activate Retarder. Kneeling both switch : For kneeling the bus – Front & Rear 1 2 3 4 2. Alarm / Call bell re-set switch : This switch on operation re-sets the Alarm / call bell. 3. Retarder On switch: 5 6 9 10 7 8 This switch is to be used for operation of retarder. 4. Engine Lamp switch : For lighting the engine area. area 5. Engine shut down over ride switch: When the engine stop indicator glows and engine shuts down due to any major fault in the engine engine, this switch is to be pressed to run the engine in limp home mode and to bring the vehicle to the workshop 1 2 3 4 for attending the complaint. 12. Battery cut-off switch : Battery is connected to the starter motor and other circuits through the isolator switch. Emergency pull knob – Disable Pneumatic door operation and enable Manual operation 14 Destination Board Control Unit 14. 13 14 Driving Controls Combi switch: • Combi switch is mounted on steering column. It has 2 levers. One lever is for operating turn signals, head lamps, parking lamps . • Head lights • Position 1 - Low beam • Position 2 - High beam • Position 3 - High beam (flash) Turn signals • Position 4 - Turn signal right • Position 5 - Turn signal left • Self cancellation turn signal arrangement is provided. When turn signal is used used, this lever will return to neutral position on its own when steering wheel is brought back to straight ahead position. • Note : • High beam flash (No. 3 position) • High beam will be ‘ON’ as long as lever is held in position '3' irrespective of the knob position. This is spring loaded position and can be used in day time for giving signal to on coming traffic. Driving Controls Li ht Lights • Lights are operated by turning the knob of this lever as indicated below First notch (PL position) • Parking lights, instrument panel lights, number plate lights, control backlights g and top p marker lights g are switched ‘ON’. Second notch (HL position) • In addition to parking, instrument panel, control backlights, number plate lights and top marker lights, headlights are also switched ON. OFF-position • All lights are switched off in this position. position Driving Controls Hazard warning switch • • • Combination switch assembly also has a switch for operating hazard warning device. To switch ON hazard warning warning, pull the knob located behind steering wheel. All turn signals lights will flash simultaneously y to warn other road users about the hazardous condition of vehicle. Push back this knob to original g position when hazard warning requirement is over. Driving Controls Windshield wiper and washer • The lever on other side is for operating windshield wiper and washer. Position • • • • • • • • • ‘OFF’ - Wiper motor switched ‘OFF’ ‘INT’ - Wiper sweeps intermittently ‘LO’ - Low speed of wiper motor ‘HI’ - High speed of wiper motor To operate windshield washer, lift the lever. Windshield washer will remain in operation as long as the lever is held in this position. When wind shield washer is actuated, wipers are also witched on. Wind shield washer water reservoir is accessible after opening centre flap. Top up reservoir with clean water regularly. Do not use soap solution. In cold climates, use anti-frost mixed with soft water for prevention of ice formation. Do not operate windshield washer more than ten seconds at a time. Driving Controls Gauges : 1 (1) Electronic RPM Meter 1 Shows engine RPM. RPM1 1 8 9 (2) Electronic Speedometer cum Odometer & Trip meter Speedometer indicates the vehicle speed in kmph and odometer indicates the cumulative distance covered by the vehicle in km. Trip meter can be used to calculate distance covered in a trip. Press switch , provided on the speedometer, once to go in Trip mode & push again to come back to main odometer In trip mode push & hold the switch for 3 to 4 seconds, the trip odometer will reset to 0.0 00 1 3 4 2 5 6 7 Driving Controls (3 & 7) Air pressure gauge Range 0-10 bar • Two air pressure gauges indicate the pressure in the pneumatic circuit for brake application. Before driving the vehicle ensure 8 kg/cm g pressure p (4) Electrical Engine oil pressure gauge Range 0 – 10 bar bar. The gauge indicates engine oil pressure in bar. (5) Volt V lt Meter M t –Range R 16 16-32V 32V Shows the battery voltage. Driving Controls ( 6) Coolant temperature gauge-Range 40 120 degree C • This shows temperature p of the coolant. • Pointer on red band indicates that the engine is overheating. (8) Transmission oil Temp. Gauge • • This shows Thi h Transmission T i i oil il temp. t It should be within green band. (9) Engine oil Temp. Temp Gauge •This shows Engine oil temp. • It should not be in red band. band Indicators T Turn Signal-LH Si l LH Blinks while combination switch turn-lever is operated to take left turn. Turn Signal-RH Blinks while combination switch turn-lever is operated to blink right side turn signal light while taking right turn. Kneeling Front Glows during front kneeling operation. Emergency Exit Lights up when emergency exit door is open. Driving Controls Kneeling Rear Glows during rear kneeling operation. Kneeling Both Glows during both kneeling operation. Parking Brake Glows when parking brake is ‘ON’. Ramp Engaged Lights up when ramp is engaged. Driving Controls High Beam Lights up when Headlight high beams are turned “ON”. Front Fog Lamp Lights up when front fog lamp is switched ‘ON’ ON . Rear Fog Lamp Lights up when rear fog lamp is switched ‘ON’. Hazard Warning Lights up when hazard warning lights are switched “ON”. Driving Controls Retarder Engaged Lights up when retarder switch is on. Door open Glows, if doors are open or not locked properly when ignition is ‘ON’. St requestt Stop Lights up when the stop button is pressed. Driver’s Seat Belt Lights up when seat belt is not clamped by the driver. Driving Controls Various types of Warning Indication Reactions by the Driver. DC-DC DC DC Converter Fault Indication becomes faulty. Glows when DC DC-DC DC converter Low Air pr. Warning Glows when Air pressure low. Battery charging indication Lamp continuously glows even after starting the engine, if Alternator is not charging the battery. Driving Controls Check Transmission High Transmission oil temperature Glows briefly while ignition ”ON”. Glows continuously when any fault is reported by the ECU. ECU Glows in case of high transmission oil temperature. •Stop the vehicle, select N, apply parking brake, run engine at 1200 – 1500 rpm ffor 2 2-3 3 minutes i t to t cooll the th transmission t i i oil. il L Low Engine E i oil il level l l Glows when engine oil level becomes low. Driving Controls ABS Fault Glows and indicates fault codes if any fault is there, after ABS switch is pressed. Low Transmission oil pressure Engine-stop Glows in case the transmission oil pressure goes below the limit value. Glows briefly while ignition ”ON”. Glows continuously when major fault is reported by ECU. and engine begins to stop. Press Engine shut down over-ride button to run the engine in limp home mode and bring the vehicle to the workshop for attending the complaint. Driving Controls Engine Warning Lights up when there is any minor fault in engine . The engine does not stop. The vehicle should be brought to the work shop for attending the complaint. Coolant Level Low Lights up when coolant level is low. Driving Controls Various Types of Warning Gauges Coolant temperature gauge This shows temperature of the coolant. Pointer on red band indicates that the engine is overheating. Low E. oil Pr. indication Red light glows, if engine oil pr. Goes below specified value. Driving Controls Engine oil Temp. Gauge This shows Engine oil temp. It should not be in red band. Transmission oil Temp. Gauge This shows Transmission oil temp. It should be within green band. If the needle is beyond green band, stop the vehicle, select N, apply parking brake, run engine at 1200 – 1500 p for 2-3 minutes to cool the transmission oil. rpm Driving Controls Gas leak Alarm Green LED glowing at “ON” position indicates power is on. Red LED blinking along with buzzer at “CH 1” indicates leak sensed above engine. Red LED blinking along with buzzer at “CH 2” indicates leak sensed above receptacle area. Slow blinking at CH1 or CH2 indicate minor leakage , fast blinking indicate major leakage. Similarly continuously glowing at CH1 or CH2 indicates sensor open / short or sensor cable fault. fa lt Driving Controls Fire Extinguisher The needle on gauge should remain in green zone. If needle comes to red zone, arrange to fill the cylinder. If vehicle catches fire, Put off the electrical battery cut off switch. Open Pneumatic door, evacuate the Passenger. Take out the fire extinguisher from the box, after opening the lock. Remove the safety pin and Press the lever for ejecting the Gas to extinguish the fire. Tips for the Driver – While Refilling CNG While Refilling CNG: • • • • • • • Switch off the engine and cut-off battery supply. E Ensure there th are no passenger on board b d during d i refilling. filli Remove the receptacle cap. Turn the knob of the 3-way valve to Filling position. Fill the Gas. Check CNG Pr. Pr gauge / indicator. indicator Fit the receptacle cap properly after refilling CNG. Ensuring that limiting switch is press properly l Tips for the Driver – Before Starting the Engine Perform daily checks for CNG fuel system in addition to other general checks: Before starting the engine: • Check gas pr. on indicator. When red bulb is glowing, it indicates that gas pr. is very low, Take the vehicle to filling station for filling the gas. • Check pressure of CNG in high pressure gauge. - If the readings of gas pr. line after parking at night and before starting g in the morning g are different,, it indicates leakage. • Check gas leak indicator for leakage indication indication. • Check engine compartment, Receptacle and y valve area for any y leakage g 3-way Tips for the Driver – Before Starting the Engine • Get the leakage location identified and stopped. • Check and ensure that the Receptacle cap and Three way valve are intact and functional. • Check Pressure of Low pressure gauge. If it is in red zone, get the HPR checked. • Check coolant level, top up if necessary. Rectify, if any coolant leakage is there. • Check lube oil level in Engine and Transmission, top up if necessary. Rectify if any lube oil leakage is there. Rectify, there Tips for the Driver – Before Starting the Engine • • • • Check Service indicator for Red band. If red band appears, get the air filter replaced. Check previous day’s Complaint Ensure that all the access flaps at rear and side of the bus body are securely closed and locked locked. All the inspection windows on the bus floor are closed and locked. • Check for any type of leakages. • Check tyre condition and tyre pressure. • Check suspension system. • Check Wind-screen glass and other glasses. • Check Safety items like fire extinguisher, window breaking hammer, roof exit window and roof top ladder. • Check door operation, Horn, Destination board, Head lights, parking lights, roof lights, fog lights, blinkers, brake lights, indicators, passenger seats, Rear view mirrors, Dash board switches, gauges, meters, • Check the contents of the first aid box. Tips for the Driver – While Starting the Engine / Vehicle While starting the engine / vehicle: • Turn the knob of the 3-way valve in Running position. position • Ensure safety key at engine compartment is ON position. • Ensure, Ramp is not positioned for use. • Battery cut-off switch is in ON position. Tips for the Driver – While Starting the Engine / Vehicle While starting the engine / vehicle: • Ensure parking g brake is applied and locked properly. y • Fasten the Seat belt. Insert belt tongue into buckle. A position locking 'click' indicates correct assembly. • Move gear shift selector to ‘N’ ( Neutral ) position and see that ‘N’ appears on the display screen Tips for the Driver – While Starting the Engine / Vehicle • Insert ignition key to unlock the steering wheel and switch on and check the following: • • • • • • • • Check gas leak indicator for any leakage. Check CNG pressure indicator. DC-DC fault indicator Engine stop indicator and Engine warning indicator. Check Engine oil level indicator Check Coolant level indicator. ABS warning lamp comes ‘ON’ ON and goes ’OFF’ OFF . Check Transmission Light is ‘ON”. • Turn the key clockwise to ‘Start’ position to crank the engine. Check Transmission Light should go ‘OFF’ when the engine is started started. This ensures that the Transmission system is free from errors / trouble codes. Tips for the Driver – While Starting the Engine / Vehicle • Idle the engine for at least 3 minutes. • Check air pr. pr Gauge. Gauge Build air pressure up to 8 bar bar. • Hold the overdrive button provided on the lever and Shift to D (drive) or R (reverse) at engine idle speed (750-800 (750 800 RPM) with service brakes ON. ON Do not shift with throttle depressed. • When selected D, the transmission will shift to 1st; depending on the accelerator position and load, up-shift and down-shift of gears will automatically take place. • Release the parking brake completely. Parking brake indicator light and beeper should be ‘OFF’. • Release the service brake and gradually press the accelerator pedal for moving the vehicle, Tips for the Driver – During running of the Engine / Vehicle During running of the engine / vehicle: • • • • • • • • • Keep watch on the indicator lights. ‘R’( Reverse) is used to back the vehicle. Completely p y stop p the vehicle and let the engine return to idle (750-800 RPM) before shifting from Forward range (D) to Reverse ® or from Reverse to a Forward range. Select ‘N’ ( Neutral)) momentarily y before making shifts from ‘D’ to ‘R’ and vice versa. Do not apply full power in ‘D’ or ‘R’ with brakes ‘ON’ Do not allow the vehicle to coast in Neutral (N). ( ) Use 1(First) range for pulling through mud, driving up or down very steep grades. Use 3 ( Third) range for city traffic and braking on steep p down-grades. g At Trafic signal, the gear shift lever to be put to “N” while the vehicle is at stopped condition and then to “D” before moving the vehicle. If the ignition switch is on but the vehicle is stand-still more than 3 minutes due to traffic or any other reason, the speed limiter comes into action and the accelerator pedal collapses and goes down. down To the raise the accelerator pedal to Normal position, position switch OFF and ON the ignition switch. Tips for the Driver – During running of the Engine / Vehicle • Apply Retarder by pressing the brake pedal. Note: Before operating Retarder, ensure that: The Retarder switch on the dash-board is pressed ON. Foot from accelerator is removed. Temperature of Transmission oil within limits ( green band range). • In case of transmission over heating, stop the vehicle, select N, apply parking brake, run engine at 1200 – 1500 rpm for 2-3 minutes to cool the converter out fluid. Note: Retarder gets automatically de-activated as soon as ABS comes into action and also as soon as accelerator l t pedal d l is i pressed. d Tips for the Driver – During running of the Engine / Vehicle • If the wheels are stuck and not turning, do not apply full power for more than 30 seconds in either ‘D’ (Drive) or ‘R’(Reverse). Full power for more than 30 seconds will cause the transmission to overheat and severely damage the transmission parts. • g stop p indicator glows g and If the engine the engine begins to stop, press the engine shut down over ride switch to run the engine in limp-home limp home mode and to bring the vehicle to the nearest authorized workshop for attending the problem. • Do not switch ‘OFF’ the ignition while driving, this makes ABS non-operational. p Tips for the Driver – During running of the Engine / Vehicle • Check gas leak indicator for any leakages. In the event of any gas leakage, immediately switch OFF ignition and isolate the electrical system using the battery cut-off switch. Close the three way valve and individual cylinder valves manually on the roof top. Get the vehicle attended to stop leakage. Tips for the Driver – While Stopping the Engine & Parking the Vehicle While Stopping the engine and Parking the vehicle: • • Bring the vehicle to a complete stop using the service brake. Make sure the engine g is at low idle rpm p (750-800 ( RPM). ) • Put the transmission in ‘N’ (Neutral) position. • Apply the parking brake and make sure it is properly engaged. • Idle the engine for at least 3 minutes before shutting down. • Cut-off electric supply by switching OFF battery cut-off switch provided on the dashboard. • Turn the three way valve to Parking position. • Close the individual cylinder valves manually on the roof top if the vehicle is to remain unused for a long time.
