Linear cylinder diffuser
pag. A-74
LC
Description
Linear rotating cylinder diffuser for ceiling or wall installation. Each slot houses inside a range of cylinders, that, by rotation, allow differents launch configurations. Compared to the traditional linear slot
diffuser, it offers more flexibility and best performances. In fact, it’s possible to guarantee comfortable
environment’s conditions (absence of air-flows) also
in presence of high specific loads, due to the jet splitting (alternate throw), which allows a fast reduction of
velocity. Characterized by pressure drops and limited noise levels, thanks to the big versatility, it’s used
both for cooling and for heating both for ceiling and
for wall. To maintain the aesthetic uniformity, the LFR
(LF) linear diffuser can be used in intake.
Dimensions
Nominal length (L) : 1000, 1500, 2000 mm*

For wall installations it is used the plenum type “C”, with
the wall hanging of the plenum or ceiling hanging and
diffuser’s fixing to the plenum through apposite screws,
through slots.
Mounting scheme
The basic mounting scheme provides the employment of
plenum type “A” with hanging of the diffuser to the ceiling
through specific brackets. These allow also the diffuserplenum junction (with gasket). The regulation damper
can be controlled through a fine tool (for ex.: screwdriver). As alternative, by employment of plenum type “B”,
it’s possible to fix diffuser to plenum, working on special
suspension screws, through slots.

Launch configuration
By adequate cylinder’s positioning (which have asymmetric profile) into the slot and by using the proper reference marks, it’s possible to obtain the following diffusion
geometries:
LC
2) Horizontal bilateral ceiling diffusion with alternate
throw and without Coanda effect.
1) Horizontal bilateral ceiling diffusion with alternate
throw and Coanda effect (alternate tangent).
It’s the standard configuration. Cylinders are disposed
so that the consecutive elements could generate opposite directions launches. This allows elementary stable
jet splitting, with larger induction’s surface, compared to
the traditional linear slot diffusers, and then a faster reduction of velocity and temperature difference. The vein
adhere to the ceiling and to the walls, in the conventionally occupied zone with a residual velocity that must be
the plan’s one.
Cylinders disposition

It’s the alternative configuration to the 1) when installation height or distance from walls don’t allow its employment (inadequate residual velocity in the conventionally occupied volume). Cylinders are disposed so that
the consecutive elements could generate wide apart
launches without Coanda effect (angles between jets ≤
50°). The elementary stable jets splitting, offers a larger
induction’s surface and then a faster reduction of velocity and temperature difference.
Cylinders disposition

Linear cylinder diffuser
LC
3) Vertical ceiling diffusion.
It’s the maximum vertical penetration configuration.
Cylinders are disposed so that vertical elementary jets
could form a single front.
pag. A-79
4) Alternate throw wall diffusion.
It represents the alternative solution to the traditionals
wall grilles. Cylinders are disposed so that the consecutive elements could generate wide apart launches (angles
between jets ≤ 50°). The elementary stable jets splitting,
ensure a faster reduction of speed and temperature difference.

06.06.16
Linear cylinder diffuser
pag. A-80
It’s otherwise possible to opt for “mixed” configurations,
by adequated match of the previous cases and proper
cylinder disposition. For example it’s possible to orient
a part of the jet to the ceiling and another part along the
wall, however keeping alternate throw.
LC
5) Diffusion with interruption fringes (closed cylinder).
Sometimes it can be useful to rotate cylinders until
complete slot closure: this option increases even more
the diffuser’s versatility. For example in case of vertical
launch, when you want to increase the penetration through throw’s velocity increment, or in case of unexpected
obstacle, in correspondence of which, it becomes necessary to nullify the jet.

Selection
1 At the requested air-flow qv, according to diagram 1,
determine slots number N so that the sound power
level LWA can’t exceed the maximum allowed one for
plan’s value.
2 At the requested air-flow qv, known N, from point 1
and known the installation height hi, from diagram 2,
determine the minimum distance from wall d.
3 At the requested air-flow qv, known N, from point 1,
verify from diagram 3 that the pressure drop DP is in
accordance with the plan’s value.
Correction factors
In the case of diverging horizontal ceiling diffusion or alternating wall diffusion, consider a pressure drop increase equal to 70%. In the case of vertical exhaust, consider a pressure drop increase equal to 60%.

Note
The minimum distance from wall d has been determined
so that the residual velocity in the occupied volume does
not exceed 0,20 m/s. Velocity probes have been disposed at 0,6 m distance from wall, and at a height from
floor corresponding to UNI-EN-ISO 7726 norm.
In the case project concerns diffusers disposed on parallel rows, it’s recommended to consider 2d as minimum
wheelbase.

Air-flow calculation
For air-flow calculation must be employed hot-wire anemometers. The probe must be positioned as shown in
the picture, in correspondence to cylinders’ middle line,
orienting the “window” against the flow. Reference cylinders are: 5° and 6° for L = 1000 mm, 4°, 5°, 11°, 12° for
L = 1500 mm, 5°, 6°, 15°, 16° for L = 2000 mm (result is
the same counting from right or from left). In each point,
the average velocity must be measured in a minimum
breaktime of at least 1 minute (average in time). In order
to obtain the air-fow, calculate the arithmetic average of
the so measured values (ṽk), and multiply it for value Ak,
carried in the table, which refers only to diffusion with
alternate tangent throw.
