Unit 1 Test: Part 1

Kelsey wants to earn money for a plane ticket that costs $264. She
plans to baby-sit and rake lawns to earn the money. She gets paid $9
an hour to baby-sit, and $11 an hour for raking leaves. In a two week
time period, Kim's parents will only allow her to work 26 hours.
1) Write two equations, one that represents the condition on total
number of hours to be worked and the other which relates the number
of hours worked at each job toward the fundraising goal.
let x=# of hours spent baby-sitting
let y=# of hours spent raking yards
2) Solve the system of equations you wrote in part 1 to find out how
many hours Kim will have to work at each job to meet both her income
goal and the time constraint.
3
6y+2x=9
4x2y=46
