About Spanish Idioms

The Spanish class I took at El Taller was
the most stimulating classroom experience
I have had in many years. Your classes are
not just about language, but about culture
and real-life communication. William
Neimark, Taller Spanish student
If you think the purpose of
language is to communicate...
If you think grammar should
help you to understand the
language and not alienate you
from it; if, above all, you think
language study can be fun,
informal and even irreverent,
then you must have studied
at El Taller. Grace Paley, author
About Spanish Idioms
Spanish, like English, has many colorful idioms. An
idiom is an expression that cannot be understood by
simply translating the meaning of individual words.

l Taller Latino Americano (The Latin

Spanish at El Taller
O
ur Spanish Language School offers
Spanish language classes at all levels
to encourage cross-cultural dialogue in
our community. Our acoustic method
of Spanish instruction gets students
speaking right away. Originated by Palombo and
developed over 30 years of teaching, this approach
is unique to El Taller and continues to be developed
and refined in the living laboratory of our classes.
Sound and dialogue are the basis of this method,
which gets students communicating in Spanish
quicker than they ever thought possible.
Typically, beginning and intermediate classes
divide each class in two parts: the first is dedicated
to grammar exposition and verb drills in “call and
response” format, while the second part focuses on
developing conversational ability. Useful idiomatic
phrases, a vocabulary of the most-used verbs and
Latin American idiom and social customs will be
emphasized. Students are encouraged to bring their
questions and individual concerns to the class.
