SPRING 2016 NEWS PTO NEWSLETTER Congratulation to our new 2016-17 PTO Board Members President • Shanna Petry VP of Fundraising • Alison Cosgrove VP of Community Partnerships • Nicole Jester VP of School Enrichment • Amy Inabinet Secretary • Carrie Knapp Treasurer • Kendra Myers And THANK YOU to this year’s PTO Board and volunteers for all of their time, talent, ideas, energy and hard work making this a successful, fun-filled school year. President • Mindy Logan VP of Community Partnerships • Shanna Flanagan VP of School Enrichment • Kristy Schou Secretary • Carrie Knapp Treasurer • Dear Pinckney Families, With the close of each school year, I know that many parents begin thinking about their child’s placement for the following year. I invite you to write to me regarding any special needs or placement concerns you have for your child. I do try to honor teacher requests if you want the same teacher that one of your other children has already had, but this must be requested in writing; it is not automatic. Otherwise, please do not ask for specific teachers. I’d prefer that your letters provide information that will guide me in the selection of the appropriate teacher for your child. Also, if you request to have your child with a friend and to have a specific teacher (from a siblings past year), you must specify which is more important, the friend request or the teacher request. I most likely won’t be able to do both. Please be sure to include your child’s name and grade for next year. Because I will be placing approximately 1100 students next year, I must have your information in writing, not by phone message. I do read every single letter before placing students, and I give thoughtful consideration to each child’s needs. If you choose to write a letter, please submit your letter directly to my attention. You may either mail it or send it with your child. For confidentiality purposes, please send all letters in a sealed envelope. The deadline for submitting letters is June 30th. Sincerely – Leanne Sheppard, Principal Here comes Palooza! May 23rd-27th Kristine Petereit VP of Fundraising • PINCKNEY ELEMENTARY PTO NEWSLETTER Kendra Myers Our wonderful week of the arts is fast approaching. We are so excited to be able to host so many different performers each year at our school. This year the schedule is looking particularly fun! Here are a few items to look forward to: • Local dancers from Peace Love and Hip Hop, the Creative Edge Dance Center, and the Cambridge Dance Academy • The Bremen Town Musicians, a play by Porkchop Productions • African Acrobats • The Plantation Singers • The Fettucine Brothers, a juggling comedy act • The Soap Bubble Circus, a scientific bubble performing act • Litter Trashes Everyone, a large marionette puppet show AND our very own Poetry Slam, Teacher Talent Show, & 5th Grade Talent Show!! 5th Grade Moving Up Ceremonies Graduation Schedule for Tuesday, May 31, 2016 CLAP OUT 7:35-7:45 Cragg & Gibson 7:45-8:25 Dawson & Regan 8:35-9:15 Miller & Pourmoghadam 9:25-10:05 Ethridge, Long, & Shoecraft 10:15-11:05 Robertson & White 11:15-11:55 Barnett & Baum 12:05-12:45 Crawford & Huffman 12:55-1:35 Clap-out: This fun tradition began years ago! On graduation morning at 7:35, all of the fifth graders will parade down the hall one last time as the “underclassmen” applaud. This is over very quickly and is mainly a “student thing”, but you’re welcome to join us with your cameras. Attire: Most students dress as if they were “going to church”. Girls often wear sundresses, and boys might wear slacks or dress shorts with a collared shirt. Notes: There are no tickets required. We expect to have seating for all of you! If your child is leaving with you following graduation, please check them out with his or her homeroom teacher. Additional information: Parents should enter the gym in the front atrium and should exit through the SE doors following the students. Parents will be invited into the gym when the previous ceremony is over. Because the turnaround is so quick, we will have about ten minutes to seat each group of guests. Please find your seats quickly as we expect to begin the ceremonies promptly. Stations will be set up for photo opportunities. 2016-2017 SCHOOL SUPPLIES Third 5 1 2 2 1 1 4 bxs 4 4 1 1 pr 1 box 1 box Fourth 1 box 2 pks 1 box 1 box Mead Composition Books (Wide Rule, Black Marble) 3-Ring Vinyl View Binder (1.5”, Black) Highlighters (Yellow, Chisel Tip) Expo Dry Erase Markers (Chisel Tip, Black) Notebook Paper (Wide Rule) Pencil Pouch (Canvas, Zippered) #2 Pencils (12 count) 2-Pocket 3-Hole Punch Plastic Folders (1 of each: Yellow, Green, Blue, Red) Glue Sticks (Large, Washable Purple) Sticky Note Pad (Yellow, 100 count, 3x3) Scissors (Stainless Steel, Pointed, 5”) Crayola Crayons (24 count) Crayola Washable Markers (Broad Tip, Classic Colors, 8 count) Crayola Colored Pencils (Full-Length, 12 count) Eraser Caps (Pink, 12 count) Kleenex Facial Tissues Sealable Freezer Storage Bags (Gallon Size) Fifth 1 5 1 pr 4 bxs 1 1 box 3 pks 4 4 4 2 bxs 6 bxs 6 4 1 1 pr 6 1 box 1 box 2 1 2 pks #2 Pencils (12 count) 2-Pocket Plastic Folders w/Clasp (1 of each: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, Orange) Mead Composition Books (Wide Rule, Black Marble) Elmer’s Washable School Glue (White) Scissors (Stainless Steel, Pointed, 5”) Glue Sticks (Large, Washable Purple) Crayola Crayons (24 count) Crayola Colored Pencils (Full-Length, 24 count) Highlighters (Yellow, Chisel Tip) Pencil Pouch (Canvas, Zippered) Notebook Paper (Wide Rule) Pencil Pouch (Canvas, Zippered) Glue Sticks (Large, Washable Purple) Scissors (Stainless Steel, Pointed, 7”) #2 Pencils (12 count) Pencil Sharpener w/Receptacle Crayola Colored Pencils (Full-Length, 24 count) Notebook Paper (Wide Rule) Mead Composition Books (Wide Rule, Black Marble) 2-Pocket Plastic Folders w/Clasp (1 of each: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green) Sharpie Fine Tip Highlighter (1 of each: Yellow, Orange, Pink, Turquoise Blue) Kleenex Facial Tissues School Fees for 2016-2017 SY: 3rd Grade = $27.00 4th Grade = $30.00 5th Grade = $25.00 Order your prepackaged school supplies by June 30th at www.schooltoolbox.com (Choose Charles Pinckney Elementary) and pick up your child’s supplies at Fact and Fee Day in August.
