Treaty of Versailles Computer Project

Treaty of Versailles Computer Project
In 1919, the leaders of the victorious countries each sent their leaders to Paris to finalize a Peace Treaty.
Several treaties were signed, but the most important and most contentious was the Treaty of Versailles.
The Treaty of Versailles, signed at the Palace of Versailles, would determine how the victorious countries
would treat Germany. Having won the war, France, Great Britain, and the USA had the upper hand. Would
they try to broker a lasting peace? Would the try to guarantee that Germany was built to be a stable and
peaceful country? Would they punish Germany for her role in the war? Let’s take a look…
Part I – 3 Men, 3 Arguments (Group work)
1. Break into groups of three.
2. One person should create a Google Drive Document. Add a simple Table with 3 columns and 2 rows.
3. Share the document with the other group members and me ([email protected] ).
4. Each person in the group is responsible for one of the “Key Players” for the Treaty of Versailles. Decide
amongst yourselves, using the chat feature in Google Drive.
Georges Clemenceau (France)
David Lloyd George (Great Britain)
Woodrow Wilson (USA)
5. Your task is to answer the following prompt.
Each “key player” for the Treaty of Versailles had different goal. They each had their own
opinion on how they should handle Germany after WWI. What were your key player’s
goals in the negotiations over the Treaty of Versailles? How did he want to treat (or
punish) Germany after WWI?
6. Fill out your group’s chart, based on your chosen Key Player. You may use any reliable information online,
but this website has great information: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/treaty_of_versailles.htm
Your table should look something like this:
Key Player’s name

Part II – Evaluating the Treaty of Versailles (Individual Work)
1. Create your own (not shared) Google Drive Presentation. Title it
2. Title the presentation – “Your Name - Treaty of Versailles”
3. Follow the info below for slides 1-4. Feel free to copy and paste from your group document.
Slide 1
Title & Name
Slide 2
Clemenceau’s Goals (from Group work)
Slide 3
David Lloyd George’s Goals (from Group work)
Slide 4
Woodrow Wilson’s Goals (from Group work)
4. Read the excerpts of the “Treaty of Versailles” found on my website. (Link: )
5. Complete Slide 5 based on the following Question: Based on your reading of the Treaty of Versailles,
which key player won the negotiations? Why? A few sentences should suffice.
Slide 5
Treaty of Versailles: Who won the negotiations?
6. For the last slide, try to predict the effects of the Treaty of Versailles. Do you think it was too lenient? Do
you think it was too harsh? Why may this approach have been flawed?

7. Submit your Google Drive Presentation to Schoology 7.3A. (As long as you shared your group document
with me, it does not need to be submitted. Again, you only need to submit your individual work.)
