Mervin will be remembered by his mischievous smile and his love of being a farmer all his life. Our condolences to his family and friends. DID YOU KNOW……….Meaford Long Term Care is first and foremost our residents' HOME!!! And as such, we want everyone to receive 'The Comforts of Home' here. The Residents' Bill of Rights is posted in our hallways to remind everyone Long-Term Care Homes are truly homes for the people who live in them. Each month we will be highlighting one of the 27 ‘Residents’ Rights’. This month we wanted to draw attention to this right: "Every resident has the right to give or refuse consent to any treatment, care or services for which his or her consent is required by law and to be informed of the consequences of giving or refusing consent." In other words... If the doctor suggests a way to help, residents can decide to: * do what the doctor recommends, * not take the doctor's advice, or * talk to another doctor or qualified person to get a second opinion. No one else can make decisions about their treatment if they are mentally capable. They can have someone help make decisions, but that too is their choice! · · · · · · · · Daily Restraint Use Potentially Inappropriate Antipsychotic Use Falls in the Last 30 days Worsened Pressure Ulcer Worsened Depressive Mood Improved Physical Functioning Worsened Physical Functioning Experience Pain Experience Worsened Pain This is the second time that these indicators have been released. The previous year data 20132014 was made public on June 10th, 2015. Comparing our performance between the years is going to help us look at where we are doing well, where we have already made improvements and where we can continue to improve so that we are able to provide the best possible care for our residents. The home-specific data comes from each resident’s assessment that is completed quarterly by the home and submitted to CIHI. We are very proud of our results and are pleased to see that Meaford Long Term Care's results in the areas of antipsychotics, falls, pressure ulcers, improved functioning, experiencing of pain and worsened pain were all in line with National and Provincial averages. We continue to be above average for restraints. We continue to look at our results for worsened physical functioning and worsened depressive moods to try and determine why these results are below average as there are many related factors. There is always room for improvement and this data continues to help us to target these areas. For more information, please see the service wing hallway board or speak to Megan Garland, Administrator
