Spellings Spelling patterns will continue to be taught within our
literacy lessons using our Read write Inc, Spelling resources.
Homework will be given on Friday to be handed in the following
Tuesday.

Year 3
Autumn Term
As Historians:
They will learn all about the Ancient Egyptians. Investigate the men and women who studied the
kingdoms and explore their discoveries. Look at
some of the Pharaohs and the development of the
pyramids, as well as the mythology that surrounded
this early civilisation. They will also look at the role
the Nile had in allowing this civilisation to flourish
and examine daily life, comparing it to our own.
As Scientists:
Children will make careful observations of plants to
identify how plants change throughout the year. They
will observe changes that take place over time, noticing patterns in the measurements and observations
they make. In the next module children will build on
their knowledge of the human body developed in Key
Stage 1. They will learn about the range of nutrients
that humans need to consume in the correct amounts
and the role that these nutrients play in keeping our
bodies healthy. They will also learn that humans and
some other animals have skeletons and muscles for
support, protection and movement.
As Computing experts:
E-Safety, Online Research
Use child-friendly search engines independently to find
information through key words and understand that
the Internet contains fact, fiction and opinions and
begin to distinguish between them. They will also develop their skills in editing and presenting for purpose
using word packages, recognise key features of layout
and design such as text boxes, columns, borders,
WordArt and develop their typing skills.
As Geographers:
They will locate Egypt on a map and learn about
Egypt's key features and climate. In our Natural
Disasters topic the children will have introduction to the key aspects of physical Geography.
They will learn about the features of volcanoes,
their formation and discover how they are distributed around the world. They will also look at
other natural disasters.

As Artists:
The children will use a grid to aid them draw an
Egyptian god or goddess. They will then use their
drawings to create an engraved image on some
foil. The children will then colour these in using
permanent pens to create a brightly coloured
artwork of their chosen god/ goddess.
As Design Technologists:
In our Natural Disasters topic the children
will plan, design, create and a evaluate a
pop up book. They will investigate and
evaluate products with lever and linkage
systems and measure, mark, cut and shape
materials to create their own books. The
children will also design and construct a
building that can hopefully withstand an
earthquake.

We will be coached in our tag rugby skills
and learn about how to keep healthy in
science. We will also start our swimming
sessions in order for the children to learn
about water safety.
The children will learn about a different culture. They will discuss different people’s beliefs and think about the needs of others
who are affected by natural disasters around
the world.
The children will learn that the Egyptians
were in balance with nature. The Nile flooded so they built canals and water ways to
spread the River Nile making them self
sufficient. This enabled civilization to develop there.
The children at the start of each topic will
share what they already know. They will
then decide what they would like to discover and create questions that they
would like answering for each topic.
